    • @Kettwiesel25
      @Kettwiesel25 Před 3 lety

      Honestly, I think Thassa's oracle is the most competitive, but also most boring build. Zombie Infestation is slower and less consistent if you ask me, but gets the meme bonus and is more resilient to counter spells, because your opponent needs to have them earlier (t3 instead of t4). Obviously Zombie Hunt is the worst against creatures and wraths. Zenith Flare may be the most consistent, but the slowest. It's best against counter spells because you can buy it back with Mystic Sanctuary, but folds to gy hate. Certainly it's nice against mill but that's pretty much off meta. Pretty much independent of the variant you just die to T1 thoughtseize every time.

  • @spiritwaker9595
    @spiritwaker9595 Před 3 lety +2

    So, I play the Mono-Blue Oracle Version of this since the Modern Deck was my favourite and I was ecstatic to learn it came to Arena
    In BO1, I've had games end on Turn 2 as soon as the first Treasure Hunt is fired, and managed to beat Control decks somehow.
    Zombie Hunt is a fun meme deck that somehow became Semi-Viable due to how fast it runs and how much harder it is for most non-Control decks to deal with it. Aggro is ALWAYS your weakness, especially RDW or Gruul Embercleave, but that's a given.
    The cheapest I've run it as is 1 Rare (Oracle), 8 commons (Sanctuary and Sandbar) and 4 uncommons (Tower).
    This deck is one that is a blast to play, but man is it a game of Russian Roulette. You either Win by Turn 4 or you lose HARD.

    46:30 Gruul is pretty common. I'd say Mono-R (split between Burn and Aggro) is most popular followed by Gruul; Lifegain is also super popular
    It probably loses hard to Neoform, but I think it can beat Goblins with decent ease as long as you draw enough lands with Hunt. Might be easier than Gruul because of the slower start and no QB.

      @@terraqueo89 Lurrus isn't 'free': it takes up a number of turns that you might need to spend on the 2 other cards you cast in the deck, & the upside isn't worth the investment. Plus, by playing Lurrus, you turn on your opponent's removal spells, which are normally completely dead against you, so turning on your opponent's dead cards is bad, especially since with Lurrus, you telegraph when you'll be playing it

    • @terraqueo89
      @terraqueo89 Před 3 lety

      @@HawaiianJuicebox Lurrus is free in the sense that the deck as only six spells, all with 2 cmc. He has no real cards on the sideboard, so taking up a land from there would cost literally nothing in terms of deck building. There is no investment since you need to change anything in the deck other then taking off an Island from the sideboard.
      Having access to companions is very strong. You can see that pros tend to cut off cards so that they can run companions that aren't even that synergistic with thier decks, like Jeganta on Jund Sacrifice. Jeganta not the greatest creature on that deck, and playing it as your companion takes you out from Murderous Rider, Bedevil and some other hard removal. But you still run it since the opportunity cost is so low and deck can do ok without the removal spells.

    Mystic Sanctuary is good when you Treasure Hunt your whole deck. Drop a Mystic Sanctuary and you put a Treasure Hunt on the top of your deck so you have something to draw on your next turn. • @MindstabThrull
    @MindstabThrull Před 3 lety

    I'd be happier with a playset of Submerged Boneyard in the main instead of 4 Island since you want to make sure you hit your colours. I might even cut Evolving Wilds instead of Islands for them, considering the land enters tapped anyways.
    Opponent having one of 4 Thoughtseize on turn 1 is about 40%, or 60% to not have it. If they also have 4 Duress (eg after sideboard), it's 60% for no Thoughtseize x 60% for no Duress, or 36% to have neither - or 64% (nearly 2/3 of the time) they have at least one. If they go so deep as to add Agonizing Remorse, (or a counterspell of some sort) .6 x .6 x .6 = 21.6% to fail, which is 78.4% (more than 3/4 of the time). And this is without mulligans either!

  • @christopherwoodbury7520

    I will say treasure flare is the better of the two decks. Unfortunately it requires most of the triomes and a bunch of shock lands to properly work so it's very non budget if you weren't playing over the last few years.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 3 lety

      Seismic Assault is a legit way to build the deck in Modern. It has upsides (wins with less lands) and downsides (costs more, one-shot damage rather than creatures that offer repeatable damage) compared to Zombie Infestation.

    • @drock91abr
      @drock91abr Před 3 lety +1

      Nope. The way treasure hunt works, that would diffuse the amount if card draw you get

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 3 lety +1

      For the combo to work you can't really play many non-land cards or else you fizzle Treasure Hunt. You could replace Zombie Infestation with Bone Miser, it seems fun although it's probably not better. The other problem is that Bone Miser and Varina are only legal in Legacy/Vintage/Commander, so they aren't an option for Historic or Modern anyway.

    Isn't the Thassa's Oracle version a bit better? It's even more solitaire, since you don't care about their life total at all. Also, I don't get why there are Evolving Wilds in this deck, they should probably just be more basics, no? 😂😅

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 3 lety

      The thinking with Evolving Wilds is that we don't do anything on turn one anyway so we can use it then to fix our mana and then later once it's bad we can just discard it to Zombie Infestation. Still might not be worth it though.
      My concern with Thassa's Oracle is what happens if Thassa's Oracle is the bottom non-land in your deck? Doesn't that just fizzle the combo and make you lose?

    • @miguelfreitas5343
      @miguelfreitas5343 Před 3 lety

      @@MTGGoldfish i haven't tried it at all, but since the deck is 90% lands anyways, it should be kinda hard to be colour screwed, I think(another problem that being mono blue would solve)...
      In regards to the other issue, if Thassa's Oracle is the bottom non-land, you just play it and win 😅 if there are still 30 cards in your deck when that happens, you can use Mystic Sanctuary to get Treasure Find back from the graveyard and do it again. Maybe it can happen that it's literally the very last card of the deck *and* you don't have enough mana to play it, but that's a miniscule chance of happening. The only way it would make you lose is if you Treasure Find into it the first time through without drawing many cards, but after that you still have Mystic Sanctuary to get it back and keep going. Being Mono-Blue means that you're pretty much always gonna have 3 islands in play after turn 3
