  • Should a Christian attend a gay wedding? This question crystallizes an important issue for our time. Dr. Robert Gagnon is a leading scholar on the bible and homosexuality and joined me on today’s podcast. This conversation was incredibly helpful to me. We talk about Jesus’ view of sexuality, working with children, and tips for engaging in culture in these challenging times.

I was fortunate enough to have him as a professor at PTS. I took his Roman’s class. He is rational and obligated to Truth. It’s hard to find that today.

Interesting discussion. I'm not convinced though that a Christian who agrees with the Orthodox interpretation of sexual ethics must necessarily refuse to attend a gay wedding. I think holding a wedding in a church or performing the religious ceremony is a religious ascent to the holiness of the union. But I disagree with the premise that attending a wedding as a guest conveys the same ascent. Marrying couples don't expect all invitees to believe as they do, nor do they require a religious blessing from all guests. I have attended weddings of previously divorced people, of Jewish friends, and even a blended Catholic / Hindu wedding. No one thought my attendance signified my attestation of Jesus's blessing of their marriage or my church's reclassification of sexual morality.

I did not watch this video but I am not at all surprised that that is his view after hearing his conversation with Jayne Ozanne on the podcast Unbelievable. He was so patronizing and self-certain, I'd have been shocked if he'd said you could go to a gay wedding. I was very disappointed in his presentation. He didn't seem to have any empathy or give Jayne any credit for sincerely and thoughtfully holding her own view.
