@@rosemarymccarron3887 Does that matter? They are Christian whether Catholic or Anglican. We all know they started out Catholic and the violent conversion of the reformation. That’s well known history. In common with many people I love our cathedrals but am not religious and do not care which flavour of Christianity they belong to.

All these cathedrals are beautiful, but I was mightily impressed by Gloucester Cathedral's fan vaulting. I have been to several southern cathedrals like Winchester and Wells, but I have never seen such beautiful ceilings! It's such a wonderful miracle that they, as well as the Great East Window, survived the reformation. I was quite surprised to learn about the earthquake that damaged Lincoln Cathedral. I don't usually associate northern England with earthquakes! I was astonished to learn where the Venerable Bede is buried, Lincoln Cathedral, as well as St. Cuthbert. I'm so glad they were left alone. This is such an excellent program, thank you for posting it!

This series unwittingly reveals an implicitly protestant and modern sensibility. The narrator informs us that the purpose of a cathedral is to serve its community, with no apparent awareness that their service to the community lies in offering prayer and especially the Mass. The "historic church consultant" assures us that while *we* go to cathedrals for "big services," the medievals went "to seek salvation." Why would we got to big services if not to advance our salvation? For aesthetic edification?

Great Britain should keep intact it's Ancient Ancestral Inheritance Of Old 🗝️👑Roman Gothic Architecture solemnly, along with proliferate The Old Roman Gothic Architecture into it's application of infrastructure indeed 👁️⚖️, because the old architectural designing infrastructure is the identity of any nation's enormous bonafide impression, that acquired the belligerence from entire human civilization

These are wonderful videos! At the same time, they are sad reminders of the past when England was Catholic, and in full communion with the Holy See. English Catholics, like all Catholics , went on pilgrimage in order to visit and pray at the shrines of the saints asking their intercession.
The dissolution of the monasteries under Henry the eighth, and the public destruction of the shrines and relics of the Saints, along with the adoption of the radical errors of protestantism by the founders of the “ new religion” ended any real connection with the pious Catholic devotions of the past.
That there are those today, who while still embracing “ the new religion established by law,” wish to recapture Catholic devotions of the past is very admirable indeed. However in the opinion of many , it is too little, and too late.

A great series but the script they've given David Suchet sounds like a cut and paste from various guide books, including endless trite comments about peace, tranquility and simplicity. Plus, a reference to the Book of "Revelations". They must have slipped that in after the Book of Revelation when God was looking the other way.
