@Derek Gates So, just what do you think we need politically, Derek? Being united as Canadians is not a bad thing. There will be mistakes but intent is very important. It is way too easy to hate something or someone without even thinking about it.

Jennifer I agree 1000%. Gord used his platform to bring awareness to an uncomfortable but true reality that we all must face. Indigenous Residential Schools was an awful thing that happened. It has left a stain on our Country’s heritage, but as Gord said, it’s never too late to acknowledge, reconcile and heal. But it takes admitting it before any healing can occur. I am white, and it enrages me what indigenous peoples had to endure. To me, all people, regardless of skin colour or ethnicity, have a right to security and respect and freedoms. I know many indigenous people and I have the utmost respect for their beliefs and values. Very good people. Gord saw that too, and used his celebrity to bring awareness to it. And even made it a mission when he was dealing with his own personal health issues. That makes him a hero in my eyes.

Gord was dying, he lost his memory, but he still felt lucky. It's amazing he did as well as he did. The doctor who operated on him said he took out a lot of Gord's brain. I think brains can rewire when parts stop functioning. He seems totally lucid here. He had to ask for a question to be repeated, but that happens to me all the time. I've watched this interview a lot of times. He is still eloquent. I find the last part of the interview very touching. And he even jokes. "Is that guy not dead yet?" The doctor said he should have about 4-5 years but it was much less. I think he was diagnosed in Dec 2015, and died less than two years later in Oct 2017. So sad.

Not sure if you'll ever read this Mr. Downie but here goes...
I have a son who will be 16 in the new year and who loves music tremendously. I was going to take him to his fist concert featuring the Hip in Bob Caygeon a few years back, but because he was only 10 at the time and the weather was going to be dreadful I didn't want his first concert to be a miserable wet experience making his Hip experience a forgettable one, so I decided to sell our tickets and let the cottage we had rented go. It was a really tough thing to do because not only would have been his first concert it would have been my wife and I's first Hip concert on top of it and we would have experienced you and the boys for the first time together as a family. Flash forward to this year out comes the devastating news for you and all of whom you love and who love you. I was so upset by the news as I lost my brother to the same cancer battle. The worst part of that is I was also battling a rare form of Pneumonia at the time and was in a coma when my brother passed away. I missed his funeral and it was so, so hard to understand when my family told me while they were helping me recover from my own brush with death. Thankfully the CBC had decided to do the broadcast of the final show in Kingston there by helping a family's wish come true to lovingly experience the Hip after all, together.
I want you to know that I appreciate what you've given of yourself, in this interview, in your final tour, in all the magical music and stories you've told us through these wonderful years and what you are still managing to do with what strength you have left in your heart and soul, thank you. You my friend are a rare and beautiful human being.
    I cherish you
    I love you
    Kelly

+Richard Truesdale nah, I agree with you....when I read his post I had many thoughts along the same line, you summed it up. Gord has enough on his plate and would never bother reading comments on CZcams and he knows that, therefore you are correct. And then he backlashes you tremendously just goes to serve how right you were.

    • @firstorder5994
      @firstorder5994 Před 7 lety +5

lol, you're just as warm and fuzzy as Dick is aren't you? The only difference is that instead of stating your own meaningless comment on my original comment you comment to someone else's comment about my comment (Hope that's not too deep for you to follow), you hide behind empty words of agreement for another fool and make a new internet friend for yourself of which you will never have the pleasure of knowing exactly who that person is?
When the time comes in your life, if it hasn't already, where you notice an animal in distress along the side of the roadway as you drive by, Could be a rabbit, a squirrel, a cat or it could even be your neighbors dog, I believe that neither you nor Dick would even hesitate and continue on your meaningless life's trajectory without even a single wince of compassion or concern for the helpless animal. The only way either one of you would stop and go back would be for an easy meal. That sums you up perfectly doesn't it troll? I got a great idea why don't you let your mother read my original comment then let her read Dick's then yours and see how proud you've made her to be your Mother. You haven't the guts because you're just another coward at the keyboard, in other word's a troll.
Now if that made you a little mad right there then it means you felt it to be true and I nailed your character perfectly. Which means you need to re-evaluate yourself and correct the character flaws you're leaking all over the internet. If it smells like shyt, looks like shyt, then it must be a pile of shyt then right?

+First Order wow such brilliant insight you have, astounding. Wonderful deduction, I'm delighted you were able to define and diagnose everything about me and give such thoughtful advice based on my tiny comment thank you :)
Although I must admit, I thoroughly enjoyed knowing you got that fired up against me for simply agreeing with another comment, I am curious what bullshit you could spew if I had posted my own personal, much less kind, thoughts about your bleeding heart post. But I see no point, I've got a life to live rather then commenting and feuding over CZcams. All in all....I love The Hip, loved this interview, enjoyed reading the positive comments...but then I read your pointless bullshit comment, but was happy to see someone else comment the thoughts I was thinking in kinder words.
But most off all...I absolutely love how angered and defensive you get, so please continue. I am finished commenting, but would enjoy hearing your bullshit more.

Riveting. What a beautiful, kind, gentle man. Just don't want him to go. He's so lovely, so special. His message resonates right through me, and is true. "We just didn't know". In relation to the Pearl and Chanie Wenjacks of the country...we didn't, but we do now. Makes me sad to know these things happened. Are happening. We have to make it right. We are stronger when we love and when we care. The whole segment was so incredibly moving, stirring. As tears roll down my face, this is
powerful. We have to carry his message. Alongside him, both giving him strength and gathering some. We love you, Gord. May you continue to shine bright. "We are all connected in some way....." Kiss on the lips.

Right across the Niagara River, here in Buffalo, I had grown up exposed to Canadian music (Kim Mitchell, Blue Rodeo, I Mother Earth, Tea Party, 5440, many others) . I felt spoiled and looked at the rest of the U.S. as missing out on special things. Gord's passing is heart-breaking. for Canada, of course...but, for me, it is a shattering blow to any association of my youth. Going to Hip shows (15 times!), driving cross country blaring Road Apples, turning people on to them who were once oblivious.
Gord was an energized, passionate, animated, caring human being. Watching this, I have a hollow feeling and wet eyes.....so, I'm going to crank Hip for the next three hours. I'm going to miss you, Gordie. You "remembered Buffalo" and I'm always going to remember you.

Every song triggers a memory for me - a kiss, a dance, a birth, a breakup...a loss. Forever, now, a loss.
We all have personal preferences, but Gord, for me, was it. He was at the top and his legacy is now cemented there.

Got to respect a man who fights the good fight. Especially today. Glad someone is speaking out for our first nation people. They deserve better and we need to make things right again. TY Mr. Gordon Downie. You are one gem of a human being.

Don’t mourn this Man, he accomplished more in 53 yrs than 10 people will in 100 years each. He was/is a force of good and kindness. He is part of the eternal, the collective of God love. We owe it to him to continue his work- we owe it to him to be more kind. He deserves our commitment to improving universal love. He could sing also.

A magnificent man, performer and musician. Inspring, what a great interview. One aspect that wasn't mentioned was Gord and the Hip's impact outwith Canada. I've had the privilege of seeing them in Glasgow, London and Dublin. We may not have the same numbers over here but we don't love you any less. Stay strong x

My first hip show was in my little country town of carlisle ontario in a park for a long weekend bash back on july 6 1991 my freinds and i snuck in from behi.d the stage and spent theweekend. We were in awe and knew you were going to be huge. I got to shake gords hand and tell him that. Couple years later it was on a much bigger stage in markham fairgrounds. Amazing achievments and love for.our natives and our country. Last time i seen you was at christies conservation area taking the time to raise awareness to keepin our planet alive. I couldnt afford to see you 1 km from my house for the last time here in hamilton because of outrageous prices. But i was outside and we all prayed and will continue to do so. Never give up hope once again the world is losing someone that deserves to live, pisses me off with all the bad people in the world to take. Love you my friend you will be missed.

What a beautiful person. He faces everything with courage and integrity. So hard to see his memory and how it affects him. Tear jerking that it also causes him to forget his children's names. That must be so hard for him.
