- Finally did a walk around of my old jeep. Traded a go kart for it right out of high school. It was filled with body filler. Didn’t stop and had been sitting for years. With right around 1000 dollars total tied up in it, it’s become a fun daily driver. Sorry about the video quality and presentation. Been awhile since I filmed anything.

Nice save. It is always a good thing when we can combine and convert another man's "old junk" into something that not only works but that makes you happy.
this thing is gorgeous...i'd love to build one just like it
You should go for it, these mail jeeps are cheap and forgotten. Chances are you will find one in better shape than mine. Thanks for the positive feedback as well!
Looks very cool dude
I’m thinking about a DJ5 and I found this video. I don’t want one unless it’s customized like yours!!! Hahahaha this is awesome!
It's not hard to do, just takes some time! I sold the Dj a couple months ago, last i heard the new owner was trying to flip it. Might still be for sale somewhere out there.
JunkinJames interesting!!! I’m not a huge car guy so do you know how reliable these are? I know they have to be pretty reliable because they are postal Jeeps and used in the military. If I got one would it hold up very well?
Just an awesome build!
Beautiful work, Good Job
True American ingenuity
Good job, man!
Epic save keep it running with a later jeep engine and use your cyl. Head
Found it on marketplace and bought it back last fall. It’s been my daily driver since. Worn out motor is still getting me down the road.
@@junkinjames6345 try short block from yj and use your cyl head. Reconditioned. Google project. Cheap jeep from jeep magazine of early 00s
@@rsprockets7846 i've read into that. Looks like a faily simple swap. Few small modifactions and I can run this old head on a modern 4.0. Just waiting to find one cheap!
@@junkinjames6345 as I said b4. Pure tube content....heck find a whole parts jeep like a trashed YJ and use parts from that....better than to nickel and dime the individual. Ones
Nice!! I just bought one for $200. Has blown gasket.
Want to chop one off and lengthen the frame for a stepside truck bed. ##BudgetGladiator
I always wanted to build something like that as well, small world!
Do you still have that old dj5? I'm looking for some parts for mine
I sold it to a guy 5 minutes up the road from me. He is going to rat rod it. I saved some parts though. What are you looking for ?
@@junkinjames6345 I m looking for a steering column, side mirrors, a new gas tank but I might just buy a bigger one, doors, some drum breaks. Can I ask where you got your parts to restore your first one ?
Rock auto had everything I needed to redo the brakes. Cost me about 100 bucks for the whole system. My gas tank was ok luckily. But originals are hard to find. Most end up having a shop custom make a replacement. A cj steering column would probably work. As long as you have your steering box.
@@junkinjames6345 alright thanks , what kind of transmission do you have ?

Do you need a transmission?
I slapped in a used transmission after filming this. Its been holding up for several years now. Wouldn't hurt to have a spare if you are near!

I'm about to get one for $1500
