    I did sell 1 copy of a self-published poetry collection to my town's central library. You usually have to donate to libraries though, but it's worth it.

    Thank you so much for your time and information. I like the library idea. I know I've read a few library books ,and, more times than not , ended up buying my own copy . Reading a library book [or at least starting one] gives you an idea if you really want to buy your own copy That is such a good idea!

    Yeah book signings and consignments seems reasonable and realistic, small indy book stores especially.

    i have recently published 3 of my first series, however i am having issues with editing the books...i read them over and over and i don;t see issues i run them through microsoft word (so not good) and it misses 90% of the mistakes, i now use Libre as well so second edit goes through that...but it is still missing vital words ...somehow tha became a word ...its driving me up the wall can you suggest a good editing program that doesn't cost the earth

      You can call the library in which you donated your book to and ask them if they can give you any info. around how many times your book got check out. Also, with my book being in the local library I sometimes go on their website and see if anyone has checked it out. Try those two ways and let me know if you had any luck.

    I got my book into Barnes&Nobles, and 3 Indie bookstores, and Walmart online, but guess what? I tried to donate my book to my local library and they told me 'NO' without any explanation. I was donating it. I'm confused because I was told that libraries love indie authors and will add to their collection.
    What's your feedback on the library turning me down?

    • @MandiLynnWrites
      @MandiLynnWrites  Před 6 lety +5

      They turned you down? And you were trying to donate it? That's odd. I've never encountered a library that won't accepts a book. I would try to find a different library to donate to and try not to let it bother you. Best of luck!

    • @unityaboriginelove6595
      @unityaboriginelove6595 Před 6 lety +2

      Thank you for responding. Yes, I thought it was odd, too, especially since the other bookstores accepted my book. The library gave me no explanation, even after, emailing them again. I went to another library in another city from where I live and donated a copy of my book. I just donated it on Saturday, so let's see how that turns out.

      I think this may be laziness on their part- they would have to put your book in the system. You are not the only one this happened to, I haven't donated yet or contacted the libraries yet, but I know the librarians sometimes refuse to take the book.

    I'm interested in selling my books to my library rather than donating cuz I'm trying to make money. How does that work? If I sell to the library would they have to pay me to do that which I honestly don't think they would. The books are old but there still in good condition. I'm not a published author yet but I am a writer
    Do you have to be a published author to sell books to libraries
    Or can I have a book sale. If wanted to have a book sale how would I do that I never had a book sale before. Would I have to pay to do that
    I've also been trying to get my book published for the longest but don't know where to start and don't have connections with industry professionals

    • @MandiLynnWrites
      @MandiLynnWrites  Před 5 dny

      Libraries don't typically buy books. If they don't own your book, they will see if they can borrow it from another library before they buy it. And they typically only buy books when multiple people ask for it.

      @@MandiLynnWrites ok so then can I do a book sale then. Cuz I'm trying to make money. I know I can sell online but I'm not interested in shipping and I never get any Sales online

    Mandi, that was depressing. lol However, aren't most books sold on line. Books sold in stores are really only a small percentage of books sold. Correct? I hope.
