Here is the door disassembly video for anyone that dropped their bolt inside the door. czcams.com/video/8vK26uX0WEI/video.html
I'm a 67 year old female & changed mine after watching your video. Took me 10 minutes & I used a index card to keep the bolt from dropping. Worked like a charm. Thank You😊
I'm glad you found my video helpful. Have a wonderful holiday.
Great demo. Thanks!
I found a better, surefire way to make sure you don't lose that bolt when removing or replacing it: hold an index card or some other piece of paper inside the hole. That way if you drop the bolt, it will slide down the card and land on the ground outside the door. No extra tools necessary.
Dealer wanted almost $400. $12 for the part, your video, and 15 minutes and it’s fixed! Thank you!
Glad I could help, and save you money!
DUDE! thank you so much for showing me this. Saved me the hassle of removing the inner door panel as I originally plnaned.
Fernando Alvarez Hey, glad I could help. Taking off the inner door panel is a pain in the butt I tell ya. Glad this car doesn't require the panel to be removed, unless you drop the bolt inside. Don't drop the bolt! I warned ya. Good luck!
Fernando Alvarez I was thinking the same thing.one of the reasons I was putting it off
Hello MTTech. I just used your walkthrough to change both back door handles on my 09 Hyundai Sonata. Wanted to thank you for the help and also mention that when removing the 8mm bolt (At least in the back doors since they don't have manual key locks) you only need to loosen it half way to replace the handles. Once it is loose enough to remove the outer shell, you can install the handles with ease and not have to worry about the 8mm bolt falling to the ground. Just thought that might help you in your future handle replacements! Thanks for the informative video!!!!
Clinton Short Glad to help! Thanks for the tip! This should help other people watching this video.
Thank you Clinton, I have to replace door handle rear drivers passenger side for comment on not removing bolt completely! Now I have to find paint. Not sure where I go to find that MT Tech said I could get base and gloss instead from dealer. Any ideals?
Thx all
What is the name of the tool to remove the bolt? (Not the magnetic pickup tool...) I successfully replaced the front door handle using a neighbor's tool but need a longer version of that same tool to replace the handle in the back
Dana Lutt Socket wrench with an extension.
Thank you so much for this video. My door handle broke off in the big ice storm we had last week in Oregon. I was able to repair myself with your perfect instruction. Blessings!!
Thanks. Dealer wanted to "diagnose it" first ($110 first hour of labor). Ordered chrome one on Amazon for $14 and painted the insert to match my other handles. Your video made it a snap. (I added a curved cutout from a water bottle just in case to catch the screw if the magnet dropped it.) YOU saved me a hundreds of dollars!
I know! Such an insane amount of money to pay for such a simple task. Glad I could help!
Brent C duuuuudde!!! Game changer with the curved cutout water bottle. Idea of the month award for you. I definitely benefitted! Cheers!
Today is the SECOND time I've used this video... both rear Sonata door handles broke. This video is great, & was a great help. THANK YOU! Thanks also for the quick tip re: the rear doors in the comments... worked well too!
Yay!
So far my son’s 2010 Sonata has broken 3 door handles. That handle is very weak, but thanks to people like you I can replace them with a nice new handle fully painted. Thank you so much!
Great to hear!
Video is spot on, replaced two handles in 20 minutes! Thanks for the advice!
+Tom Whalen Good to hear! Glad I was able to help you out!
I haven't replaced my door handle yet, but I can't wait to comment on your video. Your instructions are clear and helpful, and I'm confident I can do this myself. My mechanic wanted $300.00 to replace a door handle and a gas strut under the hood. Time for a new mechanic!
Dave Falck Thanks for watching! Good luck on your repair!
Thank you for the video, it took me 5 minutes to replace, used a toilet paper cardboard cylinder to protect against dropping the bolt, worked like a charm. Purchased set of 4 on eBay for $20, assume will need to replace them all. And the black color replacement is very close to dark blue color of car so no paint needed. Thanks!!!
Excellent video! Thanks for taking the time to produce it. You saved me a lot of money as I was able to locate the touch-up paint in a 12 oz. can to finish this project as well as paint a replacement driver's side mirror. The body shop wanted $350 to do the work. All parts and paint cost me less than $100 and it was very satisfying to repair my own vehicle.
Thank you for your comment! I am glad that I was able to help you with your repair.
I am a mom of two mechanic boys in my family and they said I wouldn't be able to fix my door handle on my sonata. Well I did it. Great video! Thank you.
You're welcome. I'm glad that you found the video helpful and that you were able to fix the door handle on your car yourself.
You are a time saver man!! Great video, I was getting ready to head home from the grocery store when I noticed my door handle sticking out. Don't know if someone tried getting into my car cause the alarm wasn't going off or if this is just a common problem with this hyundai door handle, but this video is really going to save me a ton of time. Wasn't sure if I would have had to take the whole interior panel of the door off or not, but this is such an easy fix!! Thanks brother!!
No prob.
Great video, very helpful, changed 2 handles myself in about 15 minutes. I used a MAGNETIC 8mm nut-driver. No fear of losing the bolt. Thanks for your help!
Glad my video helped you out.
Thank you so much. Replaced my daughters 2007 Sonata's door handle on my lunch break! Some nice person ripped it off in her college parking lot. Only cost 10.00 got the part from amazon . Used touch up paint. Not the best paint job but matches better then black. Shes back in action!
You're welcome. Glad you were able to fix it yourself and save some $$$.
Thank You! Worked just as you said it would - very easy. My local NAPA does custom paint mixing and can match almost any car paint. Was about $25.00 for an aerosol can. Thanks again, nice job.
Glad I could help.
This couldn't have been any easier thanks to this video. Took right around 5 minutes to fix my handle. And definitely get that magnetic tool!
Glad you were able fix it yourself!
Perfect instructions, I dedided to do to Home Depot and bought an extended magnetic wand. The tip was a little larger than your version. So got it loose , then used the magnetic tip to unscrew rest of the way while slightly pulling . Came right out! Uses the reverse to put it back in. Thanks for the video. (2006 Black Sonata, so perfect color on replacement) I also replaced the interior handle last year same door.
Glad to help.
Fantastic! Just finished replacing my driver's side handle on my 2009 Sonata. Thanks so much!
Glad I could help.
Wow I did not know it was this easy. It’s the same set up on a 2006-09 Hyundai Azera, my handles have a chrome strip in the middle so painting took a bit longer, very sweet
Great walkthrough to replace the door handle and awesome trick to prevent from having the screw getting lost. Thank you very much for the video.
You're welcome.
I changed mine today and it was easy. I ordered the replacement handle on Friday and it came today.
+Demetrick McDuffie that's great!
Great video, all the basic info at beginning of video saved a lot of time, just broke the handle of my 2009 Hyundai elantra. Your video saved me time and money since I use my car for work.
Glad my video was able to help you out with your Elantra. Cheers.
Thanks for showing how it's done. Saved me a ton of time. Well done!
Glad I could help!
I would have never figured out how the Kia Spectra 2006 handle gets attached to the reinforcement plate I kept trying to get the handle on by clipping in the long end and that was my mistake. NOW I GOT IT in the RIGHT WAY... THANK you for being the only one video out of about 20 I watched, showing the right way to install exterior handle.. KIA SPECTRA has a similar handle design and it is the same way to install as shown in the video!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Glad my video was able to help you!
I just fixed my door handle after watching this video. Thanks. I would like to add that I needed a T30 Torx bit to remove the screw that holds the locking cylinder.
Great tutorial. I'll be doing this on a Kia Sorento but looking at it, they appear to be quite similar. Great step by step way on how to do it with great explanations. Thank you.
Steps should be similar depending on the model. Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate it.
your video actually gave me an idea of how to replace Sonata 2011 actuator and I did it!!! I couldn't remove the inner panel after the door panel removed. Thanks so much!!
Ah yes, I scratched my head the first time I took the door panel off this car in the video to figure out why the window wouldn't go down when pressing the button on the inside, I couldn't figure out how to remove the window regulator even with all the bolts removed. I just removed the window motor, turned the regulator by hand tested the motor, and put it all back together and surprisingly it worked for awhile, but you could tell the motor was struggling to move the regulator. Then came the day where I took off this door handle and dropped the stupid bolt inside the door. I wanted to retrieve this bolt, and found out the hard way that the tiny little bolt was preventing me from removing the window regulator the first time around. Well, I'm glad you found my video helpful in helping you solve your issue. The lock actuator on my 07 Azera doesn't work, and its on my list of things to fix.
Many thanks to you man!!! I did this job in literally 5 minutes. I was so proud of myself lol. Avoided the $150+ the car shop was gonna charge. Car shop: “yeah we’ll have to take the entire door panel off and that.” Jokers.
Good job! Saved some money and felt proud of it showing them how it's done! Glad I could help!
Thanks for the links for the part and the paint. I couldn't believe the paint costs more than the part!
Haha, yeah. Parts online will be cheaper than buying at the dealership aka "stealership".
I just had the same experience. Shop wants to charge me $300 for this. The auto repair industry needs to be regulated! Such BS. Thanks for the video.
Great footage. 👍 I have to do this for my girlfriend's daughter's 07 sonata & you provided the best detailed explanation compared to the other videos I've reviewed. Thanks for sharing!!
That's great! I'm glad you found my video helpful.
You've helped me twice now. Thank you!
Haha, I'm glad that I was helpful for you. Feel free to subscribe to my channel to be notified of future videos.
Thanks for this video, I replaced a couple of handles on my husband's car. You saved us time and money!
Glad I could help!
MTTech: Thanks so much for video! I pulled handle on Sonada in a hurry and it broke. I originally bought. I already got handle, just need to get paint, and especially magnetic pick puller. Nice job on capture video for your showing!
Glad I could help with the video. Let me know how it goes! Good luck!
Thanks, was able to do this in 5 minutes.
Mainly because the old handle came of completely, so all I had to do was remove the lock thing and replace, put back and screw back and I used a magnetic socket.
Saved me at least $50
Nice work! Glad you found the video helpful.
Excellent instruction....I will be doing this as soon as handle arrives from Ebay.
Thanks for the feedback. Good luck on your repair!
My Door handle just broke a few hours ago and went on youtube to look at a few videos. Honestly, this is the best video, you even showed me the part number to order which i did as i paused your video and ordered on amazon. Finished watching and wanted to say thanks. I am just waiting for the part in the mail and will replay as a reminder. Again, thanks a lot. Saved me few hundred bucks for sure. Cheers!
Glad I could help! Looking forward to how your repair goes. Good luck! **remember to be very careful removing the small bolt/screw and not dropping it inside the door.
+MTTech It will be a few weeks before i get the handle. I bought a magnetic pickup tool similar to the one you have in your video. Many thanks, believe it will go smooth thanks to you!
Malibu Perfect! You should be set to go then. Let me know how it went!
+MTTech I was able to put the new door handle on with no problems thanks to you! Thanks for uploading your video. Again, the best one I seen.
+Malibu That's great to hear! Have a great day!
You just saved me the hassle of ripping off my sister in laws door panel! Thank you for posting this!
Hey, you're welcome.
Awesome! Thank you. Much quicker and cheaper than taking it to the shop.
Glad my video was helpful.
This video has saved my life, Thank you sir :)
You're welcome!
This is a fairly easy job if you take your time. I guess I got lucky because I put a strong magnet inside my socket but the screw stayed in the white plastic like it was captive. I then carefully removed back piece, slid in the new $11 handle (my part came glossy black so no need to paint), carefully put back piece back on with socket over bolt and tightened. Took maybe 15 minutes once I dug out the right tools. Oh yeah, my handle replacement was on a rear door and the dust cap is facing inside the car but it looks exactly like the one on the front door. If you don't want to scratch the paint use a plastic pry tool, Harbor Freight and other places have them cheap. Good luck and thanks MTTech.
Thanks for the tip. Glad I could help.
Thank you! I was so not looking forward to removing the door panel. Going to order the part right now.
Glad you found my video helpful.
Thanks a lot!!! It is so simple and well explained that although I do not speak English I could understand perfectly and it came out perfect. really a million thanks. and the man who repairs cars was charging me 150 dollars for that.
You are welcome!!
Great video. This saved me a lot of time and money. So easy to follow.
Glad it helped!

I replaced the drivers door handle in 2-4 minutes. Thanks I saved $100 in labor. Suggest people buy a magnetic device to retrieve the 8m bolt.

Great video. Worked like a charm on a rear door. Even *I* was able to do it. Thanks for posting. --Signed Most Repair-Inept Man Alive.
Glad it worked for you. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video great walkthrough I will let you know how it goes. I am worried about the installation losing the magnet, but I will figure it out! Thank you for an awesome video.
You're welcome. You can actually use the socket to loosen the bolt, then hold the socket in its place so the bolt doesn't move, use your other hand to pull out the lock cylinder. You can then use one hand to remove and install the new handle. After, put in the lock cylinder with one hand then with your other hand holding the socket, tighten the bolt a bit so it won't fall then tighten it all the way. Its a balancing act, but that'll prevent the bolt from falling.
Thanks for the video. It took me less than 10 minutes to change my broken door handle.
Glad I could help!
Thank you very much bro, you saved me a lot of money, and I appreciate that you shared your experiences 👍 😀 .. best regards

Great video. Thanks a lot! My Sonata is black. Are the door handles for the black models painted?
Clint Blatchford No. Parts come unpainted. The handle comes in a solid black color. it doesn't have the metallic sparkles that would be on some cars that are painted black.
Thank you for this video, I am going to give it a try and impress the wife, LOL. Great job, thank you again for the information. Once complete I will update.
Haha, you got this! Just don't drop the bolt. I repeat, DON"T drop the bolt! Let me know how it goes.
Lol! How did it go?
great video, thank you..missing the old cars with metal Not Plastic Parts
Agreed. Cost cutting at its finest.
You da Man. Thank you!
brian fetters No problem!
perfect... had same year, same color, same door. ya saved my ass.
Haha, glad I could help man.
Very simple! I wonder: my BF's driver side handle on his Azera appears to have broken off at the base where the gasket is closer to the lock mechanism, as opposed to at the inner latch part as it did in your video. So likely, instead of just the little bit at the end having been removed from the broken handle, the entire plastic arm from the gasket inward is still inside his door. Do you think the inner part of the handle could be removed easily with pliers through this method or does the entire door interior have to be removed in this case?
Good advice.
Thanks.
EXCELLENT video! Thank you for uploading it. However, I had a bad experience with automotivetouchup.com and, personally, would not recommend their products. But that's just me and YMMV.
Thanks! Huh, interesting. I didn't have trouble with them at all. Then again...this video is a few years old, so things may have changed since then.
Thanks for the info!
You're welcome.
