    Very easy to follow. I'm a 21 year old female and I followed this exactly step by step and I was able to replace my regulator, only mine was on the other side (passenger). It's the exact same thing. Thank you for doing this, if not, I was gonna have to pay someone to fix it for me and with a brand new baby, I don't have money like that to spend! Great job

    Thanks, this helped me fix my daughters window in one day. One tip I have is when removing the old regulator to drill into the two white plastic tabs that hold the window clip to the track. This separates the two and allows you to raise the window and easliy remove the regulator.

    Thank you. Great helpful video...
    Just consider adding this at the appropriate place:
    "when removing the glass from between the plastic gripper tabs (after removing the screw) the rear plastic tab STILL holds the glass with a plastic ring and MAY be stuck with silicone. SO - while moving the plastic to the rear via the slot you MUST be careful not to touch the glass AND it helps to have someone else pull up on the glass lightly until you SLIGHTLY clear the plastic ring. Remove the screwdriver and raise the glass to the top and tape in place.
    Also the wiring harness goes behind the glass travel rod so you must remove the electrical connector to the power door locks also if removing the panel completely."
    My issue was the plastic cable holder (on the glass guide) had broken and so the entire panel must be replaced.
    Your video was very helpful.

    Hey Steve, Thanks for watching my video. I assume you are talking about your outside handle? Look at my other video "replace 2006 Hyundai rear window regulator" There are several things that have to be done to get the regulator off. (1) Get window taped up (2) you need to lower the window lifting mechanism all the way down to the bottom. (3) There is a "three fingered" plastic piece on the backside of the regulator. Remove it by drilling out the rivets that hold it. Then pull regulator up.

    After you remove the Phillips head screw, you need to use a flat blade screwdriver (of similar width to the slot), and carefully push in and wiggle the window at the same time and lift. If you do it properly, it will "pop" and be free. What you have is a round piece of plastic that goes thru a round hole in the glass. You are pushing that plastic out of the window with the screwdriver. If that doesn't work, there is another way, but it is very complicated.

    Hi, this is a fairly helpful video. However I am having a hard time understanding a certain part. At 2:15 when you show how to detach the window from the regulator, I don't really understand how to do this... do I just push the flat head into where the bolt was and pull up on the window at the same time? You show a pic of a small narrow headed flathead screwdriver inside of what appears to be where the window rests, from there I don't know how to actually separate the window from it. If you could please help me out. I'm having a very hard time getting this done.

    • @Lsailor169699
      @Lsailor169699  Před 10 lety +1

      Thanks for watching my video! You are on the right track. The window has a round hole in it where the bolt goes to hold it in. The flat faced screwdriver pushes the round, plastic holding part that keeps the window in. Just push on the part with the screwdriver and then you will be able to pull up on the window. Get a friend to pull on the window as you push in with a WIDE flat faced screwdriver. You may like my other videos. Just type Lsailor1 in the CZcams search bar. Best with it and let me know if you need more help. The Sailor.

    Hi LSailor1
    Thank you for posting this awesome instructional video.
    I have followed your instructions but got stuck at the point where you release the window from the plastic guide. My problem is the cable's gotten entangled and gotten tight and it won't let the window slide up to the point where I can see the screw in the hole in the sheet metal. Do you think I could simply cut the cable and replace just the cable instead of the entire regulator panel. Thanks again.

    • @Lsailor169699
      @Lsailor169699  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks for watching my video and your kind comment Ravi! Two things that you have to recognize. (1) the window HAS to be all the way up to get the regulator off and (2) even if you were able to put the wire back on, you haven't found the reason why this happened. It is time to buy a new regulator (they are cheap). To get it off, take off the motor (seen above the speaker at 3:00 minutes in the video). This will allow the cable to be loose. You can then lift the window. If not, take all the bolts off the regulator and use a pair of dikes to cut the cable. You may like my other videos. Just type Lsailor1 in the CZcams search bar. I asked a handy man for help. He did not use any tools. He used his bare hand. He put
    his index finger inside the lifter and he was able to wiggle some room in between the
    lifter. He was able to separate the window from the lifter with ease.
    I bought a used regulator with motor for $50 plus tax.
    A motor and a regulator comes in a package or in a set.
    90% of the time it is the regulator (not the motor) that stops working.
    To be exact, 90% of the time it is the steel wire or cable that stops working.

    Hi there. I'm having the same problem the others seem to be having. I've got everything removed, and I'm at the point where I have to remove the glass from the slide plate. But no matter what I try, it doesn't seem to push back far enough to let the window through. I don't want to apply more pressure, since you cautioned that that could break the glass, but when my friend pulls up on the glass, the slide just moves with it. Is there any tips you can give on how to get that lip out when it's being stubborn?

    • @Lsailor169699
      @Lsailor169699  Před 8 lety

      +Tim Smolinski Thanks for watching my video Tim and sorry you are having that problem. This is the "brute force" method. Take all the bolts out on the regulator.Pull it out just a little. You will then be able to see the area that is holding the window. Take a long pry bar/flat screwdriver to get that plastic part apart enough to raise the window. Recommend you have a friend to raise the window while you are getting the plastic part apart. Let me know how it goes. Best, The Sailor.

    • @timsmolinski9778
      @timsmolinski9778 Před 8 lety

      +Lsailor1 I wasn't able to separate the two with the tools I had available, so I cheated a bit to solve the problem. I raised the window up so that the clip holding the slide plate was visible, and drilled into it slightly, since I had the drill handy for the rivets, just enough that I was able to snap it off and detach the slide from the track. Then I removed the metal plate and just unclipped the slide track from the window by hand. Got it out, got it replaced, and everything works now. This video was invaluable to getting it fixed. Thank you.

    Just One thing that needs to be addressed here, When at what point do you remove the motor for the window and at what point do you reinstall the motor and in what relationship is the window itself ? I removed the motor after removing the door panel/regulator and greased the slide and motor gear prior to installing the panel/regulator and window and after reinstalling the screw to hold the window in the adapter that rides on the slide I taped the window back into the fully "UP" position and then reinstalled the motor thinking that The motor will hold the window in the "UP" position as a default/Neutral Position and so far it's working

      Thanks for watching my video! The good news is that you know the motor is good! The bad news is that you will need to replace the regulator. Some part of the regulator is stuck and the motor is trying to turn the gear that raises and lowers the window and can't. I am trying to understand the slide at 2:31. What is the connection between (1) and (2)?
    Why do I have to identify the window holding screw before detaching the cable?
    (1)Once loose, there is one cable that needs to be detached. There is a little push down area indicated.
    (2)Before you detach it, lower the window so that the window holding screw is visible through the hole covered by a rubber plug.

    To all the people having problems separating the window from the plastic clip:
    -once the screw is out
    -use a big flathead screwdriver
    -push against the plastic that holds the treaded brass inlay
    -push it in about 1/8" - 3/16" (2mm - 3mm), not more or you're going to break it
    -at that point you should be able to lift up the window without any problems
    I hope that helps. It worked on my 2010 Sonata.

    THIS IS AN EXPLANATION OF AN OEM RECOMMENDED SHORTCUT., AKA "TECH TIP" NUMBER 17. As explained below, the Tech Tip eliminates all risk of breaking the glass. I'm not a mechanic, but I've done a few window regulators in my life for myself and friends, and without this shortcut, this one was by far the trickiest. With the shortcut, it's not bad.
    2006 - 2010 Sonatas all use the same part (Dorman 749-322 for the rear driver side door), so this video also works for all those years. Google "Dorman 749-322" and you will find Dorman's pdf instructions for this job. For the most part, those instructions track this video. I'd watch this video twice before doing this job, and I'd read those instructions twice, too.
    The hard part of this job is explained beginning at the 4:00 mark of the video and at Step 17 and "Alt Step 17" (named "tech tip #17") on page 11 of the pdf instructions. Play the video from 4:00 to 4:50 about 3 times. This post is my attempt to explain the "Tech Tip" in plain english. If you do this job usding the Tech Tip, you will save yourself a lot of time and (as explained in the pdf instructions) you will eliminate the risk of breaking the glass.
    HERE IS THE THOUGHT PROCESS. The window glass is attached to a (fairly large) white piece of plastic, which is also known as the "guide plate." (At 4:40 in the video you can see a tiny bit of the white plastic guide plate through the hole in the metal window rail right next to the tip of his screwdriver.) The white plastic guide plate is attached to the metal window rail (aka "window regulator rail" in the pdf instructions). The metal window rail is attached to the big piece of sheet metal that covers the inside of the door (aka the "window regulator panel" in the pdf). Got it? The (1) window is attached to the (2) white plastic guide plate which is attached to the (3) metal window rail which is attached to the (4) sheet metal panel. The window (1) needs to be detached from the (4) sheet metal panel, and the way to do that is to detach the (2) white plastic guide plate from the (3) metal window rail. In other words, if you break the connection between (2) and (3), then (1) is no longer connected to (4).
    HERE IS HOW TO DO IT. Go to 4:40 of the video. The tip of his screwdriver is resting Exactly on the left hand side of the metal window rail. Focus on where the tip of his screwdriver is. Have your friend push the window down about 4 inches and pull it up about 4 inches. Two white plastic fingers or hooks about the size of your smallest fingernail will slide up and down on the left side of the metal window rail and push the tip of that screwdriver (as pictured at 4:40 in the video) out of the way as they slide past. Get a big pair of pliers or channel locks or vise grips. Grab one of the plastic hooks and twist the pliers from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock and back to 3 o'clock until the hook breaks off. You can also pry it off with a big flat blade screwdriver. Now break off the other hook. The (2) white plastic guide plate is now detached from the (3) metal window rail, and you can get back to the rest of the job.
    You get a new white plastic guide plate as part of the new regulator, so breaking the old one does not matter.
    I tried doing this job without the shortcut. I pushed on the white plastic thru the hole in the metal window rail, and I just cracked the white plastic, but the window still would not come out. I was pushing so hard that I was afraid I was going to crack the glass. The Tech Tip shortcut was much quicker and safer.
    Good Luck!

      Thanks for watching my video John and WOW! Appreciate you taking the time to write all that out. I am going to include a link to that pdf here: www.dormanproducts.com/digitalassets/document/749-322_IS.PDF
      I will have to point out some discrepancies in the pdf and it may be due to different years having different types of regulators. First, on step 8a they say to remove the screw. Then in step 17 it is still there (confusing). I don't agree with the step 12 timing. If you do it then, at the very least you will end up with shavings falling into your door. At the worst, you could drill into your window and possibly break it. Best to wait till the regulator is out as in my video. No reason to do step 13 (remove motor) if you can drive the glass up and down. Remove it when the regulator is off. Ditto with step 14b (remove the speaker). Do not agree with step 17 at all! On my 2006, with the screw out, you push the round plastic nub out of the window with the wide, flat screwdriver and then you can lift the window. Alternatively, you can remove all the bolts off the regulator and pull the top of it so you can see the plastic part that needs to be pulled out of the glass (using a long (preferably plastic) tool to pry it off enough to pull the glass up. DON"t agree with the TechTip at all! A lot of unnecessary work!
      I do thank you for your extensive explanation. I hope that it will help people with a different year than mine. Best, The Sailor.

      I found a Dremel with a spiral cutting tool worked far better than any
      kind of prying or pliers. I'd also add that working on the whole
      assembly is a darn sight easier if you take the speaker off the
      regulator to start with and leave it off until the very end. Watch
      reassembling the window motor to the regulator or the whole damn shebang
      will disappear inside the door and you'll have to purchase a new
      regulator. By leaving out the speaker, you can hold on to the window
      motor connector from the inside while screwing in the screws for the
      motor.

      MrDruw900 Thanks for watching my video Mr. 900! Mgasman has the idea, but you don't want to apply any pressure; you could break the glass. It would help if you had an assistant to pull on the glass as you push the plastic through the window. What you have is the plastic (that you push on with the screwdriver) going through a hole in the window. When you get it pushed back enough, you can lift the window to tape it. Hope this helps? Lsailer1,
    I watched your excellent video on replacing the rear window regulator on a 2006 Hyundai Sonata however there is one comment that I have to make. The stock window regulator is different than the one Hyundai now sells. The original does not seem to have the dome shaped plastic piece that holds the window in place after you remove the Permatex screw. No matter how much you press in with a wide flat head screwdriver it won't release. I took out the speaker and tried to come in through the side but no matter what I did it would not release and I could not figure out what was holding the glass in place. I slid a thin knife through the front and back of the white plastic that holds the glass but it still wouldn't budge. Any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Anthony C.

      Thanks for watching my video! I bought my replacement thru Amazon and it worked fine. You might want to tell me your symptoms. Is the window stuck? Up or down? Sometimes you have to use the "brute force" method. Take the motor off (you need to check it to make sure it isn't the problem) and then take some wire cutters and cut the wire that runs the window up and down. The window will now be loose and you can raise it all the way up and tape it in place. With all the bolts off and everything else off of it (speaker, wires, etc.) you should now be able to get it off. Let me know how it goes. You may like my other videos. @@Lsailor169699 Thank you for your speedy response to my problem - I do appreciate it. The problem that I have is detaching the glass from the regulator. I can manually slide the glass fully up and down but like I said I can't remove the glass from the regulator therefore I can't take out the old regulator and replace it with the new one that I bought. The Permatex bolt came out easily so I can't figure out what is keeping it in there. I slid a knife through the removed speaker hole between the glass and the regulator on the front and back of where it attaches to the white plastic but I still can't get it to budge. Spraying it with WD40 did not work either. The motor was replaced so this is not the problem. Any thoughts? Thanks again!

      @Lsailor169699  Před 3 lety

      @@anthonychanatry7804 Behind that bolt is a plastic piece that goes thru the glass and is a hole. So what needs to happen is you need to push that plastic piece out of the regulator. With all the bolts out of the regulator (and the window up), you should be able to pull the regulator (at the top) toward you enough so you can see what I am talking about. Take a large, flat faced screw driver and push on that plastic so that it will pop out. You do have a 2006 Sonata? If not, this might not apply. Best, The Sailor.

      @@Lsailor169699 My Sonata is a 2007 but I believe they are basically the same car. Maybe when I am pushing on the white dome shaped plastic piece the wide screwdriver that I am inserting is preventing (blocking) the glass from sliding out because it is going right through the hole in the glass? When you say to remove all the bolts out of the regulator I thought that only the one Permatex bolt is holding the glass in place. Is there more than this one? I was hoping that my removing the speaker and coming in through that large opening would allow me to try another way of separating the glass from the regulator? Any other ideas or suggestions?

    • @Lsailor169699
      @Lsailor169699  Před 3 lety +1

      @@anthonychanatry7804 Yes it should be the same. The bolts I am talking about start at 5:44 in the video. Once you get rid of all of them, the regulator should be loose and you can pull it toward you to see how the glass is connected to the regulator. Make sure that you have done this already: The window has a round hole in it where the bolt goes to hold it in. The flat faced screwdriver pushes the round, plastic holding part that keeps the window in. Just push on the part with the screwdriver and then you will be able to pull up on the window. Get a friend to pull on the window as you push in with a WIDE flat faced screwdriver. The screwdriver with goes into the opening, not past it to the front piece of plastic. Might want to review the comments section of my video for more hints. Best, The Sailor.

    I couldn't remove the regulator after following these instructions. I looked around and saw some info saying you have to drill out the rivets in the upper left corner near the grommets holding the door and lock cables in place. Since you don't mention that in the video, are you saying you don't have to drill out these rivets? Also, I've removed all the bolts holding the regulator in place and have also removed the motor assembly, yet I still cannot remove the regulator. Any suggestions as to what might be preventing the regulator from being removed? It seems like something in the dead center to upper left corner of the regulator, but I can't figure out what it is.

      @Lsailor169699  Před 8 lety

      Thanks for watching my video Derrick! The regulator can only be removed when the window is taped ALL THE WAY up. Have you done that? You do remove the "robot fingers" by drilling the rivets out once the regulator is removed, not before. Let me know and we can go from there. Best, The Sailor

    • @derrsonn
      @derrsonn Před 8 lety

      Yes, the window is up. I'm changing the regulator because the window due to gravity alone. I slid it up with my hands and taped it up. However, I was not able to push the plastic through because the regulator motor is also malfunctioning, so I couldn't access the plastic to push it away from the regulator, but I can't imagine that's what's holding it in place. It really feels like the rivets are holding the regulator in place to me, but my wife says she can "see some white plastic still attached to the regulator" when she pries the regulator away from the door and peeks behind it. But since I'm pulling on the regulator pretty hard, I can't imagine it's plastic preventing me from removing it.

    • @Lsailor169699

      Ahhh! The problem is the window is still attached to the regulator by the plastic tab. Pull the regulator at the top and take a long, flat faced screwdriver and gently pry the tab from the hole in the window. That would be on the side facing the front of the car. Be gentle or you will break the window.

    So I have a 2008 Sonata and it's the right rear, but that should not matter, right? Well, maybe not because when I opened the port, there was no screw or white nylon plastic, only glass in that hole where I was expecting to find the screw. My window was all the way down and the screw associated with attaching the glass to the regulator was down beneath the access port. Fortunately there is another way, and if it is the motor that is the problem, you don't need to take the regulator mechanism out or disconnect the regulator from the glass.
    Three bolts attach the motor to the inner door structure, and and then it will slide right off the coupling with the regulator mechanism. Then, to raise the window, a screwdriver held sideways in the drive will crank the window closed. Now it is a simple matter of test, replace or repair the motor.
