My wife just bought me a laptop with 8 gigs of RAM. Most I have ever had in a computer was 4 (and that one was returned in favor of it's direct "upgrade".. the one I have now). Even though it suits my needs for writing, playing TOR at 40 fps on mid/high, storing documents (640 gig HD)... I have hardware envy!!! I don't even know wtf I'd use a computer like he's getting for, but it would look awesome in a man-cave.
Hey Swifty! From Thailand here! The flood was disastrous, spread everywhere and many factories shut down like WD, Honda, etc. Everyone here panicked like crazy. Right now flood has receded so price for the hard drive should be better now. Happy Shopping ya PC :P
I went to that address for this so called "fan meet".. NO ONE showed up. I was bummed. That place was some pet hospital....... I drove all the way from Illinois.
I Play wow for 4-5 years, My max fps is 22 in really good desert areas, i CANT go to SW cause i get dced, only after 1 AM, cause theres the time when are less ppl and still i get dcded sometimes .... i DONT GET TO DO PVP neither 25 man raids «.« Options setted to minimum of minimus , so yeah this is my life in wow ! My favorite thing about this game is the pvp ( which iv done when i began and the server was new ) but for 4 years im only seeing pvp vids and wishing,
I agree with nexius and get a watercooling loop. Start simple with a kit like a, xspc rasa 750. it comes with everything you need for a basic loop except the distilled water. Also ur cpu will be HELLA cool
@TheNotoriousJesus the heat is not a problem, we are talking about watercooled VGAs "590 is equal to 2 570s" thats right, but when you use 3 or 4 way SLI, the 3rd and the 4th GPUs are used only for 10 to 35% of their power, because SLI is not efficent yet, so 2-way SLI with 2 double GPU VGAs is more efficent. With 2 free PCI slots you can also use a soundcard (like a titanium X-Fi) and add another VGA for Phsyx (like a 460 gtx...) and have 10% more performances
Swifty, coupla suggestions: If money is not an issue set your sights on an i7 3960x and a ASrock X79 Extreme9. Secondly i would hold off and maybe wait until Nvidia announce their kemplar archtiecture. If you can't go ahead and pick up an hd 7970, or two of them . Yeh and getting a WC loop is a must, if you put all this hardware under water, you could pump out an extra 20% of those babies
Hey swifty! I think you should get these specs for your computer. - New Intel i7 (See if you can get the new Ivy Bridge line of processors.) - Gygabite G1 Assassin Motherboard (super awesome motherboard. Good line, but I'm not sure if it's at the top of that series of motherboards, it might be the sniper or guerrilla I forget I'm sorry.) - Dual 7970s for your graphics cards - 950 watt Power Supply from Corsair (Just to be safe with the new graphics cards, I don't know how much power they pull)
I have no idea what your budget is but there are certain companies you wanna go with. For instance if you get nvidia go with EVGA they have the best warranties, your graphics cards start overheating like yours have been they will send you a new one before you send your old one back so you have little to no down time, same goes for XFX for AMD they have the same deal. You dont need more then 16 Gb of RAM but since its so cheap right now go for 32 by all means. Best of luck man, keep up the vids
I highly recommend eyefinity if you get some macro's and software like WinSplit Revolution which lets you arrange the windows and open programs to anyware on your screen with a button push.
Don't forget your network cards, prefer to use dual lan ports for better consistency of less dropped packets and lag due to dispersing the connection onto two lanes, instead of one. The power of dedicated network cards. This is important for those who multitask with games, streams and browse all at the same time, network cards are cheap, don't strain your MOBO's ether performance.
Use ssd for OS and for the games you use the most, your coumputer will only use seconds to boot up! And do like nexius says about taking the clips over to the ssd when you edit them, and when you are done you can just take them over to your storage hdd. And dont forget to have your editing program on the ssd too ;) Keep the good work up man, love your videos! And you HAVE to visit Norway soon! You have lots of fans here! :)
Swifty please, please do a video of you building your new computer! I love watching amazing PC gaming sets come together :P Thumbs up if you agree so Swifty can see!
swifty, instead of getting 3 cards, just get the INSANE Asus Mars 2 card! Super overpowered and super cooled. There is only 1 left on amazon! Trust me, you want that card.
@sToRmZzr123 But how well tested is it with other parts of the computer? It could have massive defects etc. I never said the GTx 590s were the best, it is just what I think would be best. 2x SLI GTX 590s is amazing regardless.
Many of the SSD in 2011 have had problems when windows is installed on it like bluescreen often etc. To fix that problem you need to fix something on the BIOS. Tutorials is on the web. Thumbs up so swifty can see
Most people don't realize the performance issue is not the ram, it's the issue of matching the CPU speed capability's with the storage speed capability. Never use your main operating system hard drive for movie files, music or large data. To further more eliminate the multiple directional data reading that strains drives, run the OS on raid to further the data reading speed of the mass data storage drives.
I suggest the following if it fits your pocket 1. Motherboard: Asus Maximus IV Extreme LGA-1155 2. Graphics Card/s: 2x ASUS Mars II 3 GB Dual GTX 580 3. RAM: Dominator® GT 32GB Quad Channel DDR3 4. Processor: Intel i7-2700K 5. Any BIG water cooling case and with a 200mm fan on the side for the Beastly graphics cards
I noticed you were looking at the Asus LGA 2011 motherboard so does that mean your gonna get Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge-E. That thing is a beast!
Swifty the thing with 2011 socket you can set it up to be able to utilize all your ram. So if you have 32gb of ram you will only use like 4-8gb max. With windows and settings in your bios you can allocate fast caching to all of your other programs to use all 32 gb or close to all 32 gb. As for SSD's you want a intel 510 these are the most reliable on the market. Trust me A+ certified tech here.
@Razargh I totally agree the ASUS rampage is probably the best. also swifty be sure to get the coolermaster haf922! I think yea 32GB ram is enough and also get a bluray and dvd optic drive. I have a nice list of pc parts needed to make a pc and i added up the price and it was $2000 with monitor keyboard mouse and headset.
I agree with this mostly depends what games you want to play really though. If you only play wow then go ahead its not extremely demanding however if you want all the top notch games go with a desktop
To run more monitors you want a lot of Vram. So go get the best card you can with the most Vram. Also note the more GPUs you have does not mean that you have more Vram. Also the 7970 is a beast.
Thing about SSD is that (last time i checked) you can only write to it 10.000 times. It's a whole different progress when it comes to writing down information. That's why you get SSD for stuffs like programs and your system but still leaves some space. If you'd for example had everything on SSD you'd use it up in no-time. I'd also recommend the newer generation of i5 aslong as you wont use HT.
@paaatzh Yea dude, you see if you are using the HDMI output then that takes the signal from one of the DVI's and so you can only have the two displays. A display port adapter will do the same thing. Make sure you get an Active display port adapter as this doesn't cut out the signal from a DVI output and as a result lets you extend the desktop both ways thus running three monitors. Also once your desktop is extended you can go eyefinity if you wish!
SSD for your OS and games a normal one for everything else, i recomment Western digital Black Caviar, preferably the 1 TB (this is the normal hard drive) and if you want to use your SSD in a normal hard drive slot (not the graphic card slots which haves insanely good ssds) i'd recommend the red corsair SSD's, personally i'd wait for the Geforce version of the 7000 series of the new graphic cards instead of the ATI ones, just saying. :)
If you are going to have 4 graphic cards, remember to get a motherboard that has 4x PCI express slots in x16 mode! If you are having one graphics card in a x16 mode slot, and one in a x8 slot, it will only slow the primary graphics card down, as the x8 slot card will communicate slower with the rest of your computer. 2 cards in two x16 mode PCI slots is more than enough. Getting 2 SSDs in a raid setup will be your best option for hard drives for OS and games
Swifty, if you are going to use liquid cooling, there might be accidents. However, I recommend gettng realy into research that what is the best possible cooling solution. Maybe even you should buy new case for the computer.
@scinaty Yea but the problem is that 1366 doesn't support PCI-E 3.0. This is the only way to go for it. Otherwise if he's fine with PCI-E 2.0 then i7 2600k all the way.
What is your specs Swifty and I would like your help on building a pc on what parts I should get.I want to play games and make commentaries including rendering and editing videos with an okay case . Im also going to need to include a monitor and I want it under $980 dollars.
@1k2ka i agree, but there is no price incentive here so i just thought of some of the best components off the top of my head, if it was me... i would wait for Ivy and the GTX600 series and also RAM is so cheap 16GB is fine, personally the stuff they were looking at wanted me to just slap swifty through the screen. As for 7990 yes they will be the best for a while but i dont think they even exist yet?
You could also just replace your stock VGA cooling with the Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo Pro. Around $40 each . Then get some better/more case fans and perhaps and aftermarket cooler for you CPU you could then overclock it to tide you over until you really do need a performance replacement. As for CPU cooling it will depend on the space available to you. Noctua NH-D14 really is the best aftermarket CPU cooler and I think you had a Coolermaster case? One of the HAF series? It should fit.
It is a LOT cheaper and works the same except that you cant install it on any other motherboard. So if you wanted to build ANOTHER computer...you couldn't install it again on that motherboard. BUT, with the regular version, you still can only have it installed on one computer. Just some advice ;) LOVE your videos! -Bjsmartie
@ihazchannelhappyyou 7270 is also an extra $200 on top of the 580 as well as having twice the memory and higher clock frequencies... you can't compare the two.
If you watch movies, play games, listen to music, surfing the web - 8GB of Ram is more than enough, even 4GB is enough but RAM is so cheap now so you might aswell take 8GB just to have it. But you benefit from having more ram (like in your case with the 32GB) when you do alot of rendering and editing videos and stuff, that'll help
SSD is for OS, I have a SSD with my OS on it and I boot super fast. I only have a 60gb one though so I can't store many games on it but if you get a larger one stick all games on it and you'll get some super fast loading times!
I would wait untill the HD Radeon 7970 is released if possible and run them in CF, the rest is like everyone else says, the i7 2600k with a better coolingsystem. 16GB 20000MHz ram. A huge SSD is also a must!
@Berserkism Just because my pasta is dry doesn't mean I need a chef to prepare every meal for me. Some people really ENJOY building PC's and troubleshooting issues. Besides man, with how compatible components are these days it's tough to go wrong. Once you've past the motherboard/processor/RAM the rest is gravy...
Go with a 2600k if you need the extra threads, otherwise go with the 2500k. You don't need more than 16GB of RAM, and yeah the SSD is a good idea. Then go with a decent CPU cooler and get some good overclocks on it. Also, wait for AMD's 7000 series to come out and go with some 7950s or 7970s (They come out Jan. 9th)
Try using a PCI-e SSD, they are a bit more expensive but can hold just as much. They are also faster and smarter, some corsair cards can track your most frequently used programs to put on your SSD so those programs will run faster than less used ones. And @ShorTyyHD is right 16gbs should do you justice, any higher is over-kill.
I just built a new computer swifty and I got a asus p8z68 deluxe motherboard, nvidia 560 2gb graphics card, 16gigs of ddr3 ram (corsair vengeance). This computer can run anything i through at it and i still havent given my computer a challenge yet. I have tried amd graphics cards and have not had good luck at all. I had somethin like 3 defected cards in a row. I may have just had a bad experience but I highly recommend nvidia. Also, look and see if you can get an OEM version of windows.
The benefits of buying a complete system from a Respected Vendor is Warranty Service. Not to mention that there are some amazing deals around. Also testing will have been done to make sure of compatibility of all components in the system. Have you bothered to check this avenue to see what is available. Not to be rude(plz don't take it that way) but your friends and you know next to nothing about Computers. Otherwise you could easily diagnose what is wrong with your current system.
im running 2.5 gigs of ram and using a GeForce 8400 GS graphics card,i play on ultra graphics, and i hardley ever lag,my only reason for lag is my crappy internet.but there is a video i saw once, they built a computer and but in 24 SSD's and that computer was an absolute beast, if you would like to see it,i can look it up for you,or you can.SSD's are amazing, but small life expectancy.im currently working towards getting my A+ certification and i also write code in visual basic,i can help you! :D
Definately SSD for your OS & Games. Normal 7200rpm Harddrive for frapsed stuff and other movies. SSD is so much better than the hard-drives that boast with high RPM like 10000 or 15000rpm just because SSD is such a better technology.
No, you dont need more than 32 gigs of ram even in 2023 swifty. and i would say go with a ssd as they are far more superior than a hdd and if you really wanna ball out maybe try a nvme if they even had compatible mobo's back then haha.
Don't get liquid cooling, it's not worth the risk of an accident. If you go with the 7970, ALWAYS use 35-45% fan speed. NEVER use the automatic fan speed, I messed my 4870x2 up that way.
SSD is the way to go, AMD is too pro, get AMD! 32gb ram is good enough, and with your graphics cards going black, can also be caused if there is not enough power coming from your PC's power supply, thumbs up so he can see :)
I want to try to get a new computer, as well. I am always lagging and stuff. It really sucks. : [ Just need to get the money first. Going to be hard, though.
Here I am 2016....wow man it's been along time since then.
Here I am 2017....wow man it's been along time since then.
Here I am 2018....wow man it's been along time since then.
Same. I been watching his videos from the older house. Man those were the days. Back playing Cata and waiting for Swifty to upload.
2019
Another 2019 checking in, feels crazy tbh
you are lucky you have like 5 pc's and enjoy your WoW. im stuck with lenovo with a intel hd 4000, cool videos
what do you have now
My wife just bought me a laptop with 8 gigs of RAM. Most I have ever had in a computer was 4 (and that one was returned in favor of it's direct "upgrade".. the one I have now). I went to that address for this so called "fan meet".. NO ONE showed up. I was bummed. That place was some pet hospital....... I drove all the way from Illinois.
You know this video is 8 years old right?
Kinda ironic he makes fun of nvidia in this vlog and now is sponsored by them LUL
@paaatzh Yes. You can only use either 2 dvi or 1dvi and 1 hdmi at the same time. Then you need to use a display port adapter to get the 3rd one going.
My favorite thing about this game is the pvp ( which iv done when i began and the server was new ) but for 4 years im only seeing pvp vids and wishing,
ok i meet u there!
Andries RC SAME!!!!
I love when Nex is in the videos, we need more of him.
Smart and funny guy.
Its nice to see nexius well and in the videos talking alot hes been mia recently!
"what's that" "this is a hairdryer" "why is it so big" that was funny ahaha
damn.. wish I could get a new awesome computer like that lol. have fun
lol i remember this, you were always going on about how hot your computer would make that tiny room :P
I agree with nexius and get a watercooling loop. Start simple with a kit like a, xspc rasa 750.
it comes with everything you need for a basic loop except the distilled water. Also ur cpu will be HELLA cool
@TheNotoriousJesus
the heat is not a problem, we are talking about watercooled VGAs
"590 is equal to 2 570s" thats right, but when you use 3 or 4 way SLI, the 3rd and the 4th GPUs are used only for 10 to 35% of their power, because SLI is not efficent yet, so 2-way SLI with 2 double GPU VGAs is more efficent.

Swifty always have problems understanding jokes, its hilarious :P
"Engineered to humilliate the competition" with a slogan like that, I take it!
that was a epic laugh from nexius
Swifty, coupla suggestions: If money is not an issue set your sights on an i7 3960x and a ASrock X79 Extreme9. Secondly i would hold off and maybe wait until Nvidia announce their kemplar archtiecture. If you can't go ahead and pick up an hd 7970, or two of them . Yeh and getting a WC loop is a must, if you put all this hardware under water, you could pump out an extra 20% of those babies
"Hey i just got out the shower" DAMN I WAS TOO LATE :D
Geeeeee Force!!! all the way!
Hey swifty you should go to that rock wall place again that was sick!!! :D
Awsome Rig you are building :P
HAHA the problem is between the chair and keyboard... Very funny, but in alot of cases VERY true lol.
DUDE! Make sure everything you put in your computer tell us! I want to make the same comp as you because im making a new one as well!
Must be crazy hot in your room with all those lights oO
"They're all pentinum right?" - "You mean Intel?" -- Had a hard laugh.. :D
Sounds like a great muscle building
Hey swifty! I think you should get these specs for your computer.
- New Intel i7 (See if you can get the new Ivy Bridge line of processors.)
- Gygabite G1 Assassin Motherboard (super awesome motherboard. Good line, but I'm not sure if it's at the top of that series of motherboards, it might be the sniper or guerrilla I forget I'm sorry.)
- Dual 7970s for your graphics cards

watching 2020, the feels.
32 gigs of ram is like dropping a star destroyer on a single jedi padawan. I say go for it, because overkill is underrated
Use ssd for OS and for the games you use the most, your coumputer will only use seconds to boot up! a memeber of the swifty's crew :D

You got to take a SSD.. In 20 years of gaming and many pc upgrades, the upgrade I noticed the most was the SSD. You never want to go back to HDD.
Most people don't realize the performance issue is not the ram, it's the issue of matching the CPU speed capability's with the storage speed capability. Never use your main operating system hard drive for movie files, music or large data. 32GB? damn dude , im playing with 1.5 GB DDR2 and im happy im able to play :)
Anything above 32gb RAM are mainly used for server blades for games with a big player base.
Solid state is ownage, but you gotta get a good one :) And 4 gpu's are overkill, you need 2 3 at most :)
@Razargh
I totally agree the ASUS rampage is probably the best. also swifty be sure to get the coolermaster haf922! I think yea 32GB ram is enough and also get a bluray and dvd optic drive. So, about that new computer, your NEW origin PC!

Lol i like how swifty was like EVERYONE COMMENT ABOUT THIS and the nexius was like NOOOO
@D35TR0Y3R17 I like that set up a LOT. Although, make sure to specify that he he needs high end 16 gb ram, not gimpy 1600 or w/e.
Swifty, if you are going to use liquid cooling, there might be accidents. However, I recommend gettng realy into research that what is the best possible cooling solution. Maybe even you should buy new case for the computer.

Swifty, remember to clean your computer because its problaby alot of dust in it ! It will run better and it would less likely overhet :DD
What is your specs Swifty and I would like your help on building a pc on what parts I should get.I want to play games and make commentaries including rendering and editing videos with an okay case . Im also going to need to include a monitor and I want it under $980 dollars.
make sure you put some pretty stickers on it. makes it go faster
Nexius looks healthy here.. in his new videos he looks very "not taking a bath that often" kinda look.
Miss him
i demand you make a video showing you building your computer :D
@1k2ka i agree, but there is no price incentive here so i just thought of some of the best components off the top of my head, if it was me... i would wait for Ivy and the GTX600 series and also RAM is so cheap 16GB is fine, personally the stuff they were looking at wanted me to just slap swifty through the screen.
And @ShorTyyHD is right 16gbs should do you justice, any higher is over-kill.
that cat is exactly the same as mineeee !!!!! it has the same marks on the head.
@rangedat It's average size. Internet just like mirrors may make some objects appear larger than they are.
Swifty, try to set your setting to high>low>high>low and then set them as you would please from there. IT WORKS thumbs so he can see
im running 2.5 gigs of ram and using a GeForce 8400 GS graphics card,i play on ultra graphics, and i hardley ever lag,my only reason for lag is my crappy internet.but there is a video i saw once, they built a computer and but in 24 SSD's and that computer was an absolute beast, if you would like to see it,i can look it up for you,or you can.SSD's are amazing, but small life expectancy.im currently working towards getting my A+ certification and i also write code in visual basic,i can help you! :D
@VertsMedia rediculous thing to say ATI makes amazing cards that outperform the competition in many aspects and swifty has an eyefinity setup
5.3 ghz is fastest intel, nice processor Swifty!
hot bricks? lol Swifty is sponsored by NVIDIA now
i like the thumbnail of nexius for this vid
Epic laugh from tenex 1:27
Don't get liquid cooling, it's not worth the risk of an accident. If you go with the 7970, ALWAYS use 35-45% fan speed. NEVER use the automatic fan speed, I messed my 4870x2 up that way.
i would love to have a desktop even if it doesnt run the best it would be way better then the laptop i play LoL and used to play WoW on
@AddictedtoPaintball1 the new 7970's only pull 250 watts each the new tech uses minimal power consumption
Swifty is a n00b! ROFL! We still love you. Oh, and you should use Google chrome. Its proven to be faster.
