My favorite games to play on it are the Resident Evil 4 remake, Red Dead Redemption 2, KOTOR 2, Halo: MCC, and Mass Effect Legendary Edition. With the die shrink, the bigger battery and the better cooling I think they could've upped the clock speeds on the GPU and CPU a little and raised the max TDP a couple watts. I know as is most games get a couple FPS boost with the faster RAM but it would've been nice to get an additional few frames with clock bumps elsewhere. I could see Valve or someone in the community doing this down the road I just think Valve should've done it out of the gate. Either way an incredible update and someone who never even considered buying a Steam Deck (me) is now almost definitely getting one.

To OP, the increased RAM speeds do give you a few percentage points better speeds, but more importantly, make frame times significantly more consistent.

I’m glad they upgraded it as well as a more efficient system giving you an extra hour of battery…. but just like when Nintendo came out with OLED… its for new users… I’m in Canada and the base OLED is $800 with tax. sad Oled crush the ally absolutely not. Crush the legion go absolutely. The only down side at this point with the ally is the sd card issue but I really enjoyed it and also battery life isn’t the best but that’s more a windows thing and more power. The legion go I had for three days and was like nope. The ergonomics were good and the display but that’s where everything stops. Legion space is an absolute joke. The ally has proven to be awesome esp with the support and updates it has received and imo is the best windows based handheld. But for what I wanted the sd Oled slaps. Good review, I totally agree that it's worth it for current Deck users to upgrade to this. With today's technology it's a near perfect device. The only thing I would say for somebody who hasn't bought one yet, is there is a "screen lottery" between the Samsung panel and the BOE panel as Valve used two different suppliers. The 1TB Limited Edition guarantees the BOE panel, the other ones you are playing the lottery. The BOE panel allows higher refresh rates over the Samsung panel when the display is overclocked. Anything over 90hz does have a slight gamma increase, mostly over 109hz, but playing at 120hz on a portable OLED is smooth as butter. I've been playing Portal all morning at a solid 120fps and it's absolutely gorgeous. The Samsung panel will OC also, but to a much lesser extent.

I bought a 2tb rog ally used for £476 (the steam deck is like £479 in the uk).
Overall I think it is alright. And the screen isn’t pixelated compared to the steam deck that I gave to my brother.
The battery life on the old seems cool but realistically I only play games for short burst of time so it isn’t that much of an issue. I also find the power button to be a lot better, I can simply switch it off by holding the power button and it switches off so the battery percentage where I left off doesn’t change all too much, unlike the deck where it just goes to sleep.

  • @paul1979uk2000
    @paul1979uk2000 Před 6 měsíci

The Steam Deck is the better product of the 3, Legion Go and ROG, but, but now, the price point is a bit too close to what rivals are offering whiles the rivals are offering much better specs.
That might not matter to some, but it put me off buying the Deck when I know there are others for just a little more money that offer better specs, still, the Steam Deck has by far better quality control on the software side and that counts for a lot.
If the lower end Steam Deck had much of these enhancements, especially on battery life and screen, it would be a no-brainer, the Deck wins hands down, but now, to get this quality, you need to spend over $500, that's turning some away towards the ROG and Legion Go and in my case, I decided to skip them all and wait for a Deck 2, especially because the cheaper Steam Deck model is basically the older model with a bigger SSD.
As it is, I personally think that if you already own the older Deck, you're better off waiting for the Deck 2, if you don't own the original Deck, well that's up to you in if you think it's worth upgrading too, but honestly, considering the price point of the OLED models, if the Legion Go and ROG had SteamOS on them with all the quality control that goes with that, those two devices, especially the Legion Go would be more appealing, especially as rivals are more powerful and are dropping in price that I suspect Valve could do a big price drop next year on the OLED Steam Decks.
This also depends on what kind of games you're playing, if you are playing lighter indie games or older games, the Deck is fine, but newer games are starting to struggle on the Deck now, that the idea of spending over $500 on a device that's showing its age doesn't appeal to me, the Deck 2 will likely solve all those issues for me, but for now, the price point of the Deck, ROG and GO are close enough whiles the specs of the ROG and GO are more powerful that it's made me wait and see what the Deck 2 offers, basically, I like what Valve is doing with SteamOS, far better than what rivals are doing, but I also like what rivals are doing on the hardware specs, so none of these devices measure up for me

I think in terms of handheld experience the Oled Steamdeck is significantly better then the Ally or Legion Go. Like the Limited Edition Steam deck is 618grams, just 10grams more then the ROG Ally. While it is lower performance, but with the improved display with real HDR on linux, it looks great. And for the really heavy games streaming within your own home with triple A games or the PS5 with Chiaki. That great battery life, improved wifi, much better bluetooth, and HDR display make is a very solid option.
I've gotten to be hands on with the original Steamdeck, the ROG Ally, Legion Go, and the Steamdeck Oled. Original Steamdeck when I touched it was not polished with SteamOS yet, the Ally was great in games, but Windows dragged it down. The Legion Go has a really nice feel to it and great docked experience with fps mode. The Steamdeck Oled is just so much better then the OG Steamdeck. SteamOS has come a long way, the display is way better, its quieter, it feels cooler to hold, and the fit and finish feels much tighter. The Steamdeck Oled is basically the DSLite to the original Steamdecks OG DS

My oled will be mine in 23 days. Most of the 880 steam games I have are about to be available on the go for the first time! And I'm optimistic for game streaming from my 5800x/3080 pc.

I sold my 256 deck . Don’t regret it one bit . My rog ally has essentially become a destiny 2 /gánelas machine as it’s not worth playing anything else on it

This video seems dishonest. You got the steam deck bc you needed to make content for your platform instead of just wanting the thing which is inherently dishonest.

I genuinely love this thing. I only make videos now when I have something I feel like talking about.
You can see that in my video history when I have large gaps in uploads.

exaggerated review. Yes we know the obvious but the problem was the performance. If we will just play old games and retros in the SteamDeck OLED just to experience good FPS, I think the 512GB variant should go down more. Totally crash the Ally and Legion GO? are you out of your rational mind?

Didn’t realize halo infinite, Elden ring, and Baldurs Gate 3 were retro
