  • An island that's only accessible during low tide? Count me in! Minister's Island is located by St. Andrew's, New Brunswick and is a Provincial and National Historic Site. When the tide goes out, a sandbar appears, allowing visitors to drive right across the ocean floor to explore the island.
Home to 4 distinct groups of people - the Passamaquoddy Indigeneous Peoples, John Hanson & family, Reverend Samuel Andrews, and it's most notable inhabitant, Sir William Van Horne. He was the president of the Canadian National Railway and built his summer home on the island, plus a circular bathhouse, a large barn, and more. Check out the video to see what Minister's Island is all about!

A beautiful place to visit. I've been there several times now, and I'm always amazed at how far the restoration has progressed. My grandmother was born on the island...her father (my great grandfather) was Thompson Greenlaw. I believe he was one of the last (if not the last) managers or caretakers of the farm. He lived in the little house near the barn. I remember my father talking about playing in the barn when they went to visit his Grandfather. I hope they restore the inside of the little house someday...if they haven't already. Love to see that connection with my family.

Oh wow! What a connection. They’ve got lots of plans in the works to continue the restoration too. I could use another visit to explore it even more.

CZcams suggested this video. Not sure if it was because of my mystery ancestrydna match in St. George's or my other half being a Vanhorn. Interesting either way.

Umm… pretty sure you can take a boat when the tide is in.
