    watching this in 2017:). if they were to have a new series of this programme, to include another 'all stars family fortunes' , they should seriously consider forcing the winning captain or head of the family, after the 'double money' round, to have to play the 'big money' round, taking the 2nd turn, for all episodes. any other player from that family can take the 1st turn

    bluebear1985,I think it's called the scottish play because the protagonist is the king of scotland and that is where most of the story takes place

    Its meant to be bad luck to refer to MacBeth in any theatre by its name, its meant to give bad luck to the cast performing. Since it was the only Shakespeare play set in Scotland...

      Because that would be product placement, and that wasn't allowed at the time in television programmes. A lesser example from this episode - Stephen Rhodes (RIP) couldn't even say "PlayStation" because of this, so had to say "games console". Nowadays it's not so much of a problem.

    They asked "Something you do in bed apart from sleep?" and one of the answers was "dream"!
    And Les says "You are asleep but you are dreaming; it's a different thing"
    It's not a different thing. It's a byproduct of the bloody thing. You can't dream without being asleep! That was a profoundly bloody moronic thing to say.

    I'm still trying to understand why so many people refer to MacBeth as "the Scottish play". Is it because there's witches in it, or is it something else? Could someone please explain it for me?

      It's a superstition that the play Macbeth is cursed, so it is seen as unlucky to say Macbeth on a film or TV set, especially if an actor says it. Tom Scott did a video on it.

    • @ivaneames4354
      @ivaneames4354 Před 3 lety

      Long ago if a show bombed really badly and was taken off, Macbeth was quite often put in in its place. Therefore it is associated with failure and bad luck. It is referred to as the Scottish play to try and beat the supposed curse as the play is set in Scotland.

      The name was changed to Family Fortunes because Family Feud sounded too aggressive (Why would you call a show Family Feud). We don't copy America, this show finished years ago, after it came All Star Family Fortunes which was famous families and now that's finished. How about The Chase? that went to America, its still on TV in Britain. Even reality shows did you know where American Idol came from British show Pop Idol (2001), but they got rid of it and made Popstars The Rivals then The X Factor.

      If you do your research it's the other way round. Family fortunes first aired January 1980 and family feud aired in 1990.
