“You’ve guys been given something that every athlete dreams of… a second chance. And you’re afraid of blowing it.” Man that hits deep. So applicable to life. You almost feel you don’t deserve it and would rather quit and run away than risk failing again and have people laugh at you and disappoint people. The quicksand example too. Life is going good and then you make one mistake. Then another and another and then anxiety sets in and you feel like you can’t move forward and every panic decision you make just is another mistake. So many men have dealt with this. Not just sports. But life in general. My favorite scene. Wish it had been longer tbh because it’s so damn relatable and important
That’s why the scene is so deep. It’s not football. At all. This is life. Losing control. Trying to repair mistakes but just making it worse. Every attempt to fix the situation is just another mistake digging you deeper. Anxiety sets in. Stress, anger, fear. Crippling anxiety. You can’t breathe and don’t know what to do next because you’re second guessing so much Now you’re stuck and feel terrible and at your rock bottom This isn’t football. This is life
This scene has been sticking with me a lot lately because 2020 has been quicksand for me. It started fine. Work is good, strong raise will free me financially, favorite team in the playoffs, in a good place with friends, have a plan for the future for once. But then I miss the first week of the year with the flu. Team is eliminated. Return to work to raises being cancelled due to poor billing. Then 80 hour weeks and weekends on a project for 2 straight months. A week after, covid hits, the world shuts down. Salary reduced 20% to keep the company afloat. Lose contact with friends. Car dies of engine failure. Now its September. I cant move. I cant breathe. And every day it feels like im over my head.
Wilkerson's immediate head snap to Falco when he says quicksand, and throwing trash at Franklin for his reply always told me that he understood what Shane meant immediately
SO TRUE...Also for those of us who knew we could have played at the next level and blew it. What a second chance could have been like. Just pray if my boy loves the game as I did he'll get it at an early age. So many great athletes missed their chance and I was one. That's why youth, JV, High school, and college coaches need to be 110% all in to teach, help, and bring out the best in these kids. Don't let them miss out on a gift.
i love sports movies, i love playing hockey and every coach speech i see in movies seems pretty universal, my fav so far is any given sunday. and this scene about quicksand is sooooooo true.
It's a weird feeling how you watch the scene and hear the guy who said Prison is now serving 40 years to life in prison for murder. Michael Jace was my best actor and underrated as well but very unfortunate what took place.
Clever. Fun to judge other people isn't it? Fun to mock, assume, play holier than thou, and just have a good old laugh at other people! He confessed, he's doing his time, and nothing can bring her back. Let it go. Her family can talk some shit, but not us.
The 8th round of canelo vs Billy Joe Saunders brought me here.. I use to watch this movie all the time growing up and after watching Billy Joe Saunders fight back and make the fight actually competitive to just inevitably folding to canelo.. I guess he was in his quicksand
The human body depends on oxygen to the brain to function, seeing how quicksand cuts off oxygen your statement (while certainly is your right) has no logical basis
@@skynetprime82 That's wrong too. Look it up, homie. People caught in quicksand tend to die of exposure, because it's not deep enough to drown (or in the argument you're tying to make "suffocate").
In my opinion, this is the best and deepest part of the movie. The quicksand speech. It’s relatable to life in general. Anxiety, regret, hitting rock bottom. Then when Franklin finally gets it and admits he’s scared of going back to the Quickie Mart to sweep a floor all day. And Wilkinson finally admits his vulnerability and how he’s scared to go back to prison. We see them for their true selves. They’ve made mistakes and deeply regret it and know what it’s like to lose a grip on life. They’re also scared to go back to their regular blue collar lives again. This is the best scene in the movie and one of the deepest movie scenes imo.
"Watchu mean, like spiders on a field??"
LMAO never gets old
Orlando is funnier than most comedians nowadays I would like to see him more often
This always gets me tears. It's more than sports.
Yup
Could be applied to anything in life. Powerful stuff.

One of the greatest quotes in a football movie.
Nick Codair not just in football movies. Its very relatable in real life
Joe Mana definitely. I played football from pop warner through middle school and all through high school. It’s definitely the game of life.
And another quote from this movie that always stuck with me “Pain heals, chick’s dig scars, glory lasts forever.”
Absolutely.
agreed, this is deep and how life feels at times
This movie is definitely on my top 10.
I love when Wilkerson says, “jail” at the end. You can see it really put the whole message into perspective for the team
more like a major foreshadowing
True
Major major foreshadowing
*prison
It says…he likes to embroider!
That's some deep shit, Keanu. Some deep shit.
This speech is really meaningful. Fight your fears Il hold this quote for along time.

He was talking about Life!
The real tragedy is that they couldn't make a sequel to this movie, it was a true gem to say the least
It never needed one. The ending wrapped it up perfectly for it's style of movie.
I keep hoping the sequel has the these guys coming back as coaches and trainers
This type of movie shoulda never had a sequel
Ironic, his fear of prison. Considering he is now serving a 40 year term.
what a versatile actor hackman is
Great Scene! And to this day it still resonates to this DAY!
For such a funny movie this is actually such a deep scene! He also explains that overwhelming feeling so well

"What you mean, like spiders on the field?"
"Im afraid of spiders Coach"
He wasn't trying to be funny.

I still get chills when i see this part of the movie 🎬 This is by far one of the greatest football movies in cinema history❤
Im not a fan of Revees but even that line gave me the chills and makes me think of my fears and take my fears away.
I LOVE THIS SCENE
I use the quicksand analogy all time to explain to ppl how I’m feeling and the thing I go through in life
i don't even like football but this is one of my favorite movies of all time... great film.
The way Jimbo says damn is amazing

I hate sports. But I love sports movies. Good coaching really is universal.
After watching the cowboys game vs the Packers this is exactly how it went down.
Don't be afraid of blowing it. You have won it, you have blown it, you have existed and you will continue to exist. Now go.

Not only on sports. In the real life, like now is the perfect example. But, as all problem we have to fight no matter what. We must dominate our mind.
Can we get beyond the spiders 🤣
The irony of dude saying "prison"
How did the deaf guy understand and what was his fear?
1:11 funniest line of the movie
you mean like spiders on the field?
Either Michael Jace wasn't afraid of prison as much as he thought or he forgot.

You can't die in quicksand because it's actually physically impossible to be fully submerged in it
Oooooh REALLY?!? Well why the hell haven't we told people yet?!? THIS HAS TO MAKE HEADLINES!!
jo-shmo-yo! Calm down there buddy
Thats not what they said in Saturday Morning Cartoons.
