Ryan… you may have guessed by now that we Aussies have a wonderful sense of the ridiculous!
It's all about stopping to admire the place while just having a bit of fun along the way
A little off topic but remember to purchase a badge for ANZAC day if you feel moved to do so. Lest we forget.
❤
When I was a child, (a long time ago) if you wanted to drive across the Nullabor you had to check in at a police station at the beginning and report in at a police station when you get to the end in WA so that they know if they have to come look for you if you don't arrive in a reasonable time because you can't buy fuel along the way, you have to take your own and you also need to take your own water cos there's no road service stations on the way. It was a 3 day drive and many people broke down and died. That's why in the outback they say to stay with your car if you breakdown because your car is easier to see from a plane.
My GG Grandfather walked from Fremantle to Adelaide with two mates in about 1856. They almost died from lack of food and water. Then he walked from Adelaide to Portland Victoria.
I was told by a retired police officer here in WA that registering with police stations when travelling in the outback is NOT so they'll go looking for you, it's so that when someone stumbles over your body it's to make identification quicker. ;)
We drove over in the mid 70s before it was paved. I was only a kid. Dad put out every swear word known to man every mile of that track. It was so pleasant when we did it again after the sealed road was opened. I remember watching for the telecommunication towers every so many miles, looking for the little access tracks that came down to the highway. I could drive across an endless monotonous desert and not be bored, there in Australia or over here in the US (I moved in the 80s). Highway 50 across Nevada is a beautiful drive.
What I remember of crossing the Nullabor in the early 70's was the rabbit hunters, with their trucks and utes loaded up with rabbit carcasses.
@@zaccat693What an Amazing & Remarkable man your GG
Grandfather was! As were his 2 mates! 😮 🏅🏅🏅
Puts my short

shame!!! 😳🫣
Seventy year old in Melbourne Australia and this is the first time I have heard of this golf course and the news comes from Ryan in the U.S.
I’ve heard of it before.
From Ryan.
He knows more about Oz than lots of Aussies, although we know instinctively a lot that he’s discovering.
A bit of trivia ... for years I thought 'Nullarbor' was an aboriginal word, but realised it's actually Latin. Null = no arbor = trees. No trees.
As I remember, there were so many accidents on the straight road, someone thought to make the trip fun. I've also seen somewhere, there are signs along the road with riddles and the sign with the answer is about 10 minutes further along the road.
I played the course last year. The holes are about a 2 hour drive apart. It was a great reason to stop and break up the drive. It was created by the road houses to get people to stop and take their time.
Hi Ryan. Tomorrow is Anzac Day in Australia,New Zealand and Tonga . Many of us will be up before dawn to attend the dawn services held in virtually every village, town and city. It is an important day for us as we remember the soldiers who fought in wars. Many of us have our own personal memory, whether it dates back to the First World War or more recent ones. For me, I think of several cousins and uncles who I never met because they lost their lives in WW1, as well as an aunt and uncle who endured and survived years as prisoners of the Japanese in WW2. While the ceremony is a solemn one, afterwards there are drinks and games of 2 up in pubs and clubs. There is also a Dawn Service conducted on 25 April each year at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France to mark the Anzac forces clearing the village of the German soldiers who had gained control.
Lest we forget.
Lest we forget.
💕
Great information ❤
Lest we forget
The longest hole is only a par 5 at a bit over 500 metres long, the distance is between the tees. It’s a clever idea as it was built to encourage people to take a break from driving to help avoid fatigue, a simple solution to a deadly problem.
You need to understand the Nullarbor Plains. It's a long stretch of flat almost nothing. The golf course is more a way to break up a long boring drive as much as anything. Also a glimpse into Australian humour....
The Brits did the same thing in WW1 when attacking German lines they would throw out a soccer ball so the men wouldn't be so bored being machine gunned to death.
This. It's classic Aussie humour and a way to break up the boredom. Hey, if it gives drivers a focus (getting to the next hole), it might prevent them falling asleep at the wheel amid the nothingness. Driving at 110km/hr is a sleepy speed! Encouraging regular stops helps lower some of those crash risks.
I don't like golf any way.
10:45 I love the light bulb moment when you realise what it is! 💡
The great Australian bite wow to us a few years ago I shimmed up to the edge on my stomach it was amazing to look over the edge and I was crossing my fingers that it didn't give way.
There is a massive cave system under the golf course, possibly the world's biggest, and you can take scuba gear and explore them.
I was just going to mention this and, yes, It is indeed the largest in the world. It was featured on the ABC last night: czcams.com/video/iOsZA-ct1Is/video.html
What???? True, never heard of that.
@@optimusmaximus9646amazing!
And some mining company wants to mine on The Nullarbor which will stuff up the cave system. I hope the local indigenous traditional land owners can stop it from happening. I saw it being discussed on the ABC (I think) about a week ago. 😊
@@heatherfruin5050 No, they don't want to mine it, they want to install a wind farm. This might sound innocuous but it will involve digging huge holes for all the footings of the wind turbines which could very well damage the limestone substrata. No doubt the WA government will give it their blessing, though.
Happy Arvo! 🙋👍 Welcome to the Nullarbor, take your time, watch where you step, read the signs, don't overindulge between holes! Look out for feral camels and crows! 😁
I love the "Nullarbor Links" sign. For those who don`t know "Links " means on the coast with an ocean veiw.
Oh, I didn’t know that. Thanks.
Should learn something new every day, keeps you young.
Love learning more about my own country from you Ryan ❤ Your smile is gorgeous 😂
We can always make a 1 kilometre golf course hole if you want one Ryan, we’ll give you the honour of playing it first if you can make it to Australia 🇦🇺 😜🤣🇦🇺
The Bunda Cliffs are spectacular to see in person, they go for over 60 kilometres, just a sudden drop into the Great Australian Bight at the edge of the treeless plain. At the right time of year you can whale watch from the lookouts at the top of the cliffs. The Nullarbor Roadhouse has a big statue of a whale out the front. That big kangaroo holding Vegemite you saw in the video is at Border Village on the SA/WA border. There’s a big galah at Kimba, which is also on the Eyre Highway before you reach the Nullarbor. Kimba bills itself as “halfway across Australia”. You would probably enjoy a video about Australia’s big things in various towns across the country.
Yeah! Do the BIG things. Start with the Big Banana. I think it was the first, but could be wrong. It’s certainly the first I remember.
Another crazy Australian golf course is Coober Pedy Opal Fields Golf Club. It's the only club in the world with reciprocal rights at St Andrews (at night in winter, or something, but still). The "greens" are oil+sand, and the tees are a portable piece of astroturf.
If you play golf like me, not only is the course a whooooole lot longer, but you need to have real decent money to pay for the balls, and you'll be dead from alcohol intoxication before you finish. 😂😂 You could argue that it would not be a happy arvo. 😂
🤣🤣
The Nullarbor is a unique area that every Aussie should cross at least once. Not just zoom across in a day or two, but spend the time to see the wildlife, the Bunda Cliffs, shells on the Roe Plain, the lookout from above Madura, the 90 mile straight, the head of the bight & more. Can't wait for my next crossing in March 2025. 🚴
I agree. I saw it a few times, many years ago.
Last time was from the Indian pacific, so further from the good scenery.
Yep, we'll be crossing the Nullarbor Plains next week.
Regards from Adelaide, South Australia 🇦🇺
Ryan you have to drive to each hole. It takes about 2 to 3 days to complete.
Crows love to steal golf balls, take them back to their nests, and try to “hatch” them. They kick them out of the nest when the crows realise they aren’t eggs. Definitely a boon for a golfer who knows the trees crows nest in - free golf balls.
You’d die walking a kilometre in the Nullarbor at the wrong time of the day and/or year, it’s best to just hit a couple of balls into the nothingness and lie about your score I reckon 😂
FYI Ryan. Nullabour translates to Nil Trees. Null (nil) Arbour (Trees).
Nice whale-watching spot there. Not a lot of food in the water (b/c of the currents), but the antarctic whales come up to birth their young. I guess the lack of food in the water means fewer sharks.
1/2 km sounds like a good long stretch to this almost 66 year young Aussie 😊
Its fun. Play a hole in rough circumstances, drive to the next hole and play it. Stop for a few beers and sleep it off then play another hole and repeat the above.
It’s a beautiful drive anyway.
You will have to look an old ABC story (not on CZcams) about "Big Lizzie" the largest tractor in the world for many built in 1915
Crossed it four times. Takes a day to cross by road. Great drive!😊
Ryan you should watch an a American that did this golf course. His goes by the name DownieLive titled the longest golf course on earth great video.
I’d love it if you would do some videos about Adelaide, South Australia. We get a bit forgotten over here, because we’re quite small and out of the way. It actually took me a while to find a decent video lol, but I like the way these two show what the city and other parts of South Australia have to offer. At a pace that kind of represents how we do things here. And they’ve done their research too, which is cool. czcams.com/video/iAd1AkL2eTQ/video.htmlsi=ho0HM6pwbrPXoARK czcams.com/video/ZX-sVEIuh-U/video.htmlsi=-iDn1whAwXj3Rk8s
There's a golf course in western Queensland where there's a whole lot of gibber (small stones) on it. Some are about the size of a golf ball. I didn't play it but did wonder how one could hit the actual ball set her than a gibber!
COME ON RYAN, YOU DO KNOW SIZE MATTERS
First time I have heard of this golf course.
Hello..i love your videos... " the Nullabor" .. is amazing it took days & days to drive across it on the way to Perth..the cliff jutting out to the ocean is called " The Great Australian Bite " i stopped along there and watched a pid of Wales.. i stooped and picked up a handful of shells. It must have thousands of years ago under water😊
Ryan, it’s not tee to hole that’s long, it’s the distance to the next hole that’s far away, otherwise you’d have to walk forever to complete one hole. Hole 5 is par 5 and is the longest at 538m, while Hole 15, par 3, is 112m.
I was telling someone once that my sister hit a duck when playing this course. The person kindly corrected me with: “You mean a birdie. Duck is a cricket term.” “ No,” I replied, “I mean a duck. A real duck. She killed it.” She was very distressed. I was more intrigued with how a duck would be on that course.
Ryan, tonight AFL game starts with moving Anzac tribute, tomorrow, 25th is Anzac Day. 50,000 at a dawn service to remember those who sacrificed in wars. Watch it.
Check out Lightening Ridge Golf Cousre..not as long but u wont find any grass!
I live in Australia, Melbourne actually, and I’ve never heard of this course . Probably just as well given the way I play anyway 😂.
Great road trip...
It takes a day driving to cross the nullabour.
Ryano, a PAR 500 HOLE!?!?...Yes, people walk 1000kms on one hole hitting a ball.... not thinking straight are we cobber LOL 😉
You don’t drive planes, you fly them.
nullarbor means no trees in latin it also has the logest straight stretch of road in australia the 90 mile straight and there are emergency plane runways on the highway. it's flat, no trees, desolate and inhospitable we love it.
There was a brief glimpse of the RFDS runway, near the start of the video.

if you take life seriously, Australia is not the place for you
each hole is normal sized, just like you local course, par 72, but the holes are hundreds of kilometres apart
A long walk, from green to tee.
ANZAC Day on the 25th . Come on mate. It should have more priority considering we are all allies ❤❤
I do think Ryan reads comments
Me too and then laughs at us all fighting amongst ourselves😀😃😄😆🤣😉
Ryan, I love your reactions to things we have here in Oz but you must have not realised it was longest golf course not longest golf hole. Keep up the great work. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🫶
If a whole was very long to play then you would be there all day just playing one hole. Got to remember you hit the ball and walk and find it. If you park your vehicle at the tee then you need to walk back to get to your vehicle.
So it would be a km walk at least for the 500m golf holes.
Long way to the 19th hole😂
Its nulla-bore 🎉
hi Ryan why are you always hurrying your vlog.. take your time we can wait.. Cheers mate
Did you really just say how can you possibly get a hole in less than 100 when the course is 1000km long? One hole isn’t the whole golf course 😂 😂😂
Did you you notice at 2.00 the stubby nosed lizard, magically, turned into the stubby nosed man? Look at him. He is the lizard! Strange creatures about there. Shapeshifters! Watch out, the animal might turn into people, the people into animals. Have you noticed how kangaroos in the outback turn into bogans? Shapeshifters! Watch out, you never know ;)
They are telling us dreamtime stories, so why not extend on that theme. It's all a dream. The "never-never". An aparition. And before you know it, you reach Perth. Once there, nothing will wake you up. It really is the end of the world.
You don't need to invent a new name for this guy. Shingleback Lizards (Tiliqua rugosa) have enough common names already, they are already known as a Sleepy Lizard, Bobtail, Pinecone Lizard, Boggi, Double-headed Lizard and Stumpy Lizard. "Stubby nosed", nahhhh, their nose isn't even stubby.
Yes it's a long way between holes
My question is why
if the pro's played the course, they'd have to play a couple holes a day, they're that far apart lol
they're normal length fairways, just 1 per town, hence getting checked off at the next roadhouse, what makes it hard is the rocks and scrub, balls bounce in weird angles and/or get in some nasty positions
Well, you’d have to have the longest golf course in the world to go along with the fact that the Nullarbor Highway is the longest straight road in the world wouldn’t you? 🤷🤣😂
Its not 300 or 500 metres its kilometres to next hole
If you get a hole in it's called an "Emu"
if you get a hole in,it's bloody amazing
React to Spanian into the Australian hoods
Ryan.. you could try and get Trump to play our course instead of Bedminster.... that's not a golf course... this is a golf course.... 🤔On second thoughts no keep him there.
I guess you never played golf before. Its hard enough remembering your score on a normal hole for half my social club so cant go to silly or it be a shit beer after each hole
i live in oz. and its changed so much you have to go and look for a real aussie there very rare now we are a dying race.half the people here call themselves aussie but there far from it. there not true blu. i doubt ull find 1 aussie thats proud of aus today
So Ryan........ Are you packing your clubs or are you going to hire them next year? 😛😛😛
Golf is a pretty dumb game no offence intended hit ball and walk around looking for it so this is perfect but more importantly have you watched Croc Dundee yet
First
Do you greet everyone with Happy Arvo? We don't say that in Australia 😂. Usually G'day or "Howz it goin"
Bro, can I ask why you never respond to any reply or comment on your videos? I had good faith in you, as an Aussie, as I’m sure we all do, but we are beginning to wonder why you never reply or respond to our comments and whether you are just making monies off us?? We think you are a cool dude. We obviously love you. But if you keep doing things your way, honestly, not one response to a comment?😕 don’t expect much engagement or profit in the future… God bless… Take care…🙄💗
Off topic, the Northern Territory long-running unofficial tourist campaign is well worth a look.
C-U-in the N-T.
Ryan, it's not 1000km long, it 1000 MILES long (1,600 km).
It is definitely on my bucket list with my golfing mate. We're still saving for the cost of the beer we'll need to drink to get to the end of it. 🏌🏽♂️⛳️🍻
look up downie live... e has recently been here and did the course, hes from north murica if i recall.
