Building Houses That Withstand the Next Big Flood

Architect Brett Zamore talks about his design philosophy for building houses in flood-prone Houston neighborhoods. He offers examples through a site visit to one of his designs currently being built in the Houston Heights.

In the far East,due to rain throughout the year and unpredictable weather before this millennium, they build the house higher that enough to store a modern car underneath. Then modern housing tend to changed and houses was build lower...
Without the stilts.
So when it floods the new houses are all submerged whenever there's a flash floods.
The best way is to build the house that can fit car underneath the house. Then the concrete post piled into the soil. Then the wooden post or concrete whichever cheaper embedded inside the concrete post.
Would be good if the stairs are concreted so in a way it anchor's the House if water rising high.also somewhere in the middle not the house have the centre of the house concreted solid to the ground for stability and load bearing.
That will withstand the house from gushing flood water. If money no objection then have the poles and beam support to the ground made of concrete.
Car can be parked underneath.anyway if it's flooded can always wash it.
No damage done to the house from raging waters.just see the house in far east most build elevated on stilts be wooden or concrete. Especially in flood prone area.

How do you build concretes stairs ?

I would put a fence to keep animals from going under there or debris from moving flood water. But idk what the negatives of that would be other than added cost
