Your ability to portray a character slowly sinking further and further into madness - the "all is normal and well" mask slipping with every step - is truly amazing. Very well done!

"She sounds perfectly reasonable to me. A couple of points, though. I hope when she was in the friend's house she checked what medication they may be taking because there would be a chance of an adverse interaction with the drugs she gave them. That would be bad. And then she should *really* search around the house because they might have a secret stash of medications somewhere, y'know for emergencies. And then, if she found the stash, she would realise that the friend is kind of apprehensive about the world and has long been taking a significant amount of sedatives regularly. For mood regulation, of course. So they have a high tolerance now."
"And then there's the rope. I know it's cheap and it's a classic, but it's always so abrasive. If she loved them she would want to be gentle, right? I think cloth would be much better. It would be like she was just wrapping them in a blanket. Just in a very creative way."

I can't help but think the listener. is just sitting in front of her and not getting her hints at all. just Sitting with a dumb smile on their face and munching on the snacks. Thinking that's a really weird story she's telling. Basically just being incredibly dense. Like she's telling in the story.

Hmmm, I think it's a bit boring, there's no real drama, It's ok-ish for a romcom, but I don't think it's gonna be the greatest book ever written, at best a c-lister. it would be much better if you made the friend a guy who *appears* dense, but have a lot of baggage while interested, with him thinking "no way she *actually* wants to date *me,* she's just a good friend", and then have him think "no, if I try to make a move on her, she'll think I'm a creep, or I'm only after her body. Or both.". Also it would be great if she was so afraid of giving him straightforward signals, she were to say "I want to cuddle, you know *as a friend* ", also, you did a great job with that already, as "I wish I had a boyfriend like you" is every guy's worst nightmare. The mixed signals would make it make a *lot* sense, and as the dude isn't ignoring her all but confessing, but is ignoring her being VERY cuddly and flirtatious, but, you know, *as a friend* . Also some people may find catharsis in the pain of watching those characters spiraling.
I think that could be a c or even b-list story.
And as for her doing things wrong: Yeah. She is doing it wrong. She should sit him down and say "hey, I've been having these feelings for you, what do you think I should do with that", maybe after being a bit flirtatious to make him into her. Even if she doesn't consider his inner machinations, confessing is pretty hard, so she shouldn't make him do the emotional labour. I mean, he may have been the one to do it all the times before, she should be the one to go for it. You know, in the name of gender equality.
