This was released in 1985. This song is 38 years old. Absolutely an AMAZING BEAUTIFUL song!!!
OMG, Bruce and Stevie always make me emotional.
The Making of We Are the World video shows how this is even more astounding. The recording session stretched thru the night, with many of the performers having already attended an awards ceremony earlier in the evening. Others flew in specifically to do this video.
No matter how many reactions I watch nobody recognizes Bob Dylan, the greatest songwriter in the history of music !! never hear anyone say a word about the lyrical genius Bob Dylan
And Dylan's latest album was simply great.
@@donaldkennedy9573 Everything he has ever done is great ! Over 300 songs he wrote have been covered by other artists !! Imitation the greatest form of flattery
they don’t recognize dan ackroyd either
I agree..
So many..missing the boat..with BOB
I don't like his singing but love his songs!!
British artists also came together to record "Do They Know It's Christmas" This was all to bring attention for Africa, ravaged by famine in Ethiopia,in the early 80's. It all led up to Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations, watched the live broadcast,
That was actually released first. Then Bob geldof came to America to do one here.
This was recorded right after the music awards - to say that they were exhausted was an understatement ❤
They recorded perfection though
I seriously doubt that something like this will ever be done again. This is a beautiful collaboration of some of the best!!!
They did it again after the Haiti earthquacke back in 2010, some were the same artists, & some new ones from the younger generations, but it was done exactly 25 years later. You can find it: we are the world 25 for Haiti or something like that. So yes it can be done, if people unite and believe in helping others.
They tried
They failed!!
Was a train wreck compared, starting off with Beiber (grown)@@carlop.7182
I remember when this came out...so good to see the younger generation react and share this message...I don't know if we'll see anything like this again! There is a rendition...USA for Haiti...but it didn't seem as heartfelt as the original.
I remember when it first on TV
They didn’t solo, but starting at 8:04, it was interesting to see Harry Belafonte and then Dan Ackroyd singing next to each other in the back.
There was a remake in 2010 called USA for Haiti 25 with modern day singers , they paid homage to Michael Jackson who died the year before by adding his image to the video .
Pairing Bruce with Stevie was genius! My favorite part of the entire song.
As a child of the 80's.. no other song has been this iconic in my lifetime.. just amazing...
This was legendary. To have all that talent on one stage at the same time giving their time to help generate money for such a great cause.
That was Bruce Springsteen singing with Stevie Wonder.
The greatest gathering of talent in world history
I can remember when this came out, I was a long haired rocker back then and the first time I ever heard this it put a tear in my eye❤
Humanity at It's finest! Legends all over the place with a great message. Love it, great reaction!
Makes me sad that we are so far from this right now due to technology, separation, materialism, wars, etc. WE NEED OUR HUMANITY BACK
Here are some of the ones people seems to not recognize despite being superstars:
Paul Simon - short guy towards the beginning, famous for songs like Mrs Robinson, Sounds of Silence, etc.
Billy Joel - Sings right after Tina Turna. C'mon! Everyone knows nearly every song he ever wrote, but so many people forget what he looked like back in the mid 80's!
Bob Dylan - Weird sounding guy in the middle that has no melody whatsoever, but was one of the most prolific and influential songwriters in history.
Harry Belefonte - Panned over up close in the chorus, whose music is basically recognizable for anyone who's watched Beetlejuice.
Dan Akroyd - Because, yes he is a musician and is still a part time member of the band he cofounded in the 70's.
Darryl Hall (and Oates in the chorus) - Members of Hall & Oates, one of the best selling band for a solid decade
Kenny Loggins - Ya know... Top Gun theme song "Highway to the Danger Zone" and an absolute shit ton of other major hits throughout the 80s.
Huey Lewis - Basically one of the most popular songs of the decade the "Power of Love" and the band that Michael J Fox was covering and featured in Back to the Future.
Bruce Springsteen - Lots of reaction videos always love his part, including yours, but only about half of them know who he is.
And now most folks would only know Cyndi Lauper from the Cosentyx ads. She has such a powerful voice (both in song and in activism)…..
That was a great time when the our country stood together
Leave egos at the door. (That's what was above the entrance when they walked in)
The 80s were awesome but people (especially the baby boomer generation born 60-65) is blinded by childhood and youth nostalgia. The 80s were full of racism, homophobia and an impending atomic war.
If I'm not mistaken, there was never such a large gathering of superstars singing on a single album before this, and there has not been one since. This was truly remarkable.
Yes there was ….. the brits were first …… a song called “do they know it’s Christmas time?” With Bono, Sting, Boy George, Phil Collins, Status Quo, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, Bananarama etc ………. this version came a year later
Yes... there has been a few other solidarity songs, but like this.... never was and never will be again. The level of talent, artistry, selflessness, ego-ness, and mission spirit in that room on that day was something the world will probably never see again. That night, that place was "ground zero" of the 80's U.S. music industry.
Respect, maam, for recognizing these legends. So many younger reactors dont have a clue. So you have my respect and gratitude! They did actually make a 'remake' of this, if you want to call it that. But im sorry, its no where near as amazing as this. These legends didnt need to do this song to boost their careers, they were already legendary status. That and simply the power of michael jackson! Prince however apparently refused to participate.
The talent that was there was just unbelievable.
Back then we were doing better and getting closer. There were issues, no doubt about it. But, we were making progress and improving. Then something happened. Millennials and zoomers arrived and felt that they needed a big cause. So they stirred things up. Caused more people to hate each other, resent each other, and they stoked a fire. They destroyed the progress that was made, just to say that they needed to clean it up. It’s going to take generations to get back to where we were when this song was made. Generations.
That song touched my soul!
My first time here! No better time to tune in to a great reaction. Ahh this song. And what they did for the people of Africa (particularly, Ethiopia) was the most inspirational movement ever. I did get a little weepy seeing Tina again. This is beautiful for sure. Magic happened here.
The part with Stevie and Bruce is the best part; Stevie made this song his bitch with only that part.
Dionne Warwack's pipes get overlooked. In fact several of the women get overlooked. I've even seen reactions that DON'T EVEN RECOGNIZE DIANNA ROSS.
@@sueprator9314 It is atrocious how many of the greatest artists to have walked this planet are unknown to especially Gen Z; they actually think that the shit being played these days is the best music made. They have no idea of all the truly great music that was made between 1960 and 1990 and I blame both the schools music education (that gives little to no attention to music history) and their parents who havent taken the time to play this music to their kids and tell them all the innumerable tales of all the bands and artists.
All we can do is post these great songs on our social media and hope it reaches the younger generation.
Tina & Billy Joel, my favourite combo.
One heck of a line up.
Exactly!!!!
You have a beautiful voice too.
1985 - The greatest charity song of all time
Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for his lyrics in 2016. That’s extremely high praise for his writing.
This country seemed unbreakable in the 80s
You should watch the youtube video on the making of this USA for Africa video. It is really amazing.
Happy thanksgiving 🍽 babe

Dylan.
There's no excuse why this generation doesn't know a helluva lot more about their music history than they do.... Shameful
But why are you so fine?

Jackson was the least talented there that day .
