    I pressure washed it, then cleaned with the detergent.
    I used a gel like paint stripper to remove the loose paint and old build up. Then pressure washed again. NO SANDING
    I then polished the boat with aluminum polish.

  • @danutdlp
    @danutdlp  Před 11 lety +1

    Hi there, I cleaned it with my pressure washer. I also had a little bit of paint sprayed on the bottom of the boat. I used some kind of paint stripping gel and a wire brush to remove the old paint and then I cleaned it all again with the pressure washer. No I did not sand it.

    Boat looks awesome! I am redoing one myself. I'd like to show you pictures and maybe get ideas. I have noticed this boat isn't very sturdy any way to fix that? Will more weight make it more sturdy in water?

    I recently bought a sea-king of nearly exactly the same model. Its great to see what my boat could look like with a little TLC!
    1) Can that 6 horse get the boat to plane?
    2) How is the sealant on the rivets holding up?(the seems on mine leak a little).

    really nice restoration - two thumbs up. One comment on the fire extinguisher being at the bottom of your got to kit. It would be better to mount in a location that you can get to it in a hurry. Always nice to never have to use it, but always best to be close at hand when needed.

      6 hp motor in that year is air cooled - no water pump at all ! I own a 1974 7.5 hp engine that looks exactly like that one. It runs like a champ still - after all these years.

    You should think about adding a knife and a lighter/matches to your emergency kit just in case you get stranded some place overnight, it will give you the ability to build a simple shelter and make a fire even if your personal knife gets washed away.

I actually just bought a similar set-up this morning, and now after seeing this I'm thinking I might want to start a summer project before trying to get on the water. Nice job but you need to get rid of the pressure treated wood, even if it is covered and not in contact with the aluminum directly. The chemicals in the wood react to the aluminum. Also only use stainless or aluminum or plastic hardware, if you used any galvanized steel anywhere, remove it.

    Nice job on the restoration project! I restored a fiberglass boat this past winter. You can check out my project. Do a search on CZcams for "1970 14ft Thundercraft Fishing Boat". My boat was not painted in the video, but it is currently painted a navy blue color. I liked that anchor set up you had also. I will search google for it. Thanks for sharing your video. Happy boating! :)
