    Super clean. I think it's pretty smart that you used the principle behind twiddling to add that extra click. I can't seem to get it down in regular fader setup, but I'll keep at it.

  • @BobbyBriscoeBeats
    @BobbyBriscoeBeats  Před 12 lety

    Exactly, you can make crabs/twiddles be like transforms or flares. When you scratch hamster it's easier to make them like flares, meaning the first finger is closing an open fader, as opposed to opening a closed fader.

    @bobbydadogg The background track is WILLESDEN DODGERS - Jive Rhythm Trax and the scratch sound is from Change The Beat by Fab Five Freddy. Its right at the end of the track. Both early 80s tracks and reprinted, recompiled hundreds of times but the originals are best as they have that 'beep' and 'this stuff is really fresh' sound too. Not sure why Babu is getting all the credit here I guess he just made another compilation.

    ive used this technique since I first saw your video way back in the day. It really helped me achieve the speed I was looking for with three click techniques, I also scratch weak hand fader hamster and right hand on record. If I could go back in time I would learn to scratch standard fader with left hand but at this point Im hamster for life.... Hope your still spinning CBK, I learned a lot from you. I cant believe im like the only person who does twiddlebahns often. I would love to see some new vids. Peace!!

  • @TheWaynelds
    @TheWaynelds Před 12 lety

    Exactly. When i switched to cutting left handed with my right hand controlling the record, i found that certian things were easier to do than they were on my opposite side. There will be certain things you can do on your left side that you cant really do on your right side, and vice versa. the only thing that sucks is i dont have as much elbow room scratching on my right side as i do on the left.

    You must have watched the video without audio. I clearly explain the difference between this and a twiddle. A twiddle is middle finger to index. This is middle finger to index, index. Like I said it's a modified twiddle.
    Thanks!

    At one point in time, some DJs said the same thing about fader curves, crabs, skip proof records, ect. I've been doing this for a very long time (over 20 years) so I know what I'm talking about. I came up with this for people like me who scratch with their weak hand on the fader. Don't hate, innovate.

    @CBK81 Ahh..that never occured to me. My first set up back in 1999 was a gemini mixer with a very tight cross fader as well, and they wore out super quick. I didnt get my first mixer that had fader slope and hamster switches until 2003, which was the Numark Pro SM3. It's got the optical fader on ball bearings and laser sensor. It workes really well and i still use it today. I only had to replace the fader once because it snapped off in 04. $130 for a new fader.

    • @FaderFlosser
      @FaderFlosser Před 6 lety

      GFJ915 very true.....it's crazy how if u do a two click with one finger vs two fingers it sounds much different. I think because when using one finger the notes can't fall closer together. they are more evenly spaced giving it that more rapid robotic sound. This fact has drove me nuts for the last fifteen years since I started djing. Also flares never sound quite as good when done hamster. it's best done when the fader is standard and the movement is closing the fader with the thumb and then tapping open twice. This has also drove me nuts because no matter how clean you are, doing flares with two fingers in hamster will never sound as good as the correct way. Most tutorials do not talk about this.....

  • @djkmd25
    @djkmd25 Před 15 lety

    good stuff man... my scratching has lacked due to my efforts to become more all-around. I'll stay tuned for more tutorials. If you can please post some of simpler styles like the 1-click fare, twiddle, etc. It's difficult for me to describe/teach them to people I'm teaching.

    @BobbyBriscoeBeats  Před 15 lety

    Nah man there is no right or wrong. I will have weaknesses the way that I scratch, and you'll have weaknesses the way that you scratch. In the end, it's all about style and flow. That's always more important than speed to me.

  • @BobbyBriscoeBeats
    @BobbyBriscoeBeats  Před 15 lety

    No it's a twiddle into a 2 click flare but the sound is the same as what you get from a 3 click flare. I do it like this instead of a crab because you can do this slower than you could do a straight crab.

  • @BobbyBriscoeBeats
    @BobbyBriscoeBeats  Před 12 lety

    @TheWaynelds I'm very old school. Back in the day faders sucked, period. There was no fader curver, no hamster, nothing. Plus they were super tight. Many djs back then scratched using the phone/line switch. I scratch right handed and the phono/line switch was set up so that pushing it to the left was on, pulling it to the right was off. That is why I scratch hamster to this day. It's probably also why q and many others scratch that way.

  • @BobbyBriscoeBeats

  • @BobbyBriscoeBeats
    @BobbyBriscoeBeats  Před 15 lety

    Well the thing is, yea I it can be done with a 3 finger crab. Well, I still think that 4 finger crab is redundant if you scratch hamster, but oh well. Anyways yea you can do it with a crab to beats that are about 90-110 bpm, but otherwise it's too fast. You can't slow your fingers down enough to really make it sound right. And yes, I do super fast 2 clicks with a twiddle. :)

  • @feedyourspeakers
    @feedyourspeakers Před 14 lety

    i always used my weak hand (left) on the record aand strong hand (right) on the fader. I switched it up over the summer and started to learn on the opposite side. Cuttin with my left hand was akward as hell, but i kept with it and got the coordination down and it really didnt take that long to get comfortable. The one thing i will NEVER do is scratch with hampster faders. It just doesnt seem right to me. But i guess to each his own. DJs, learn to cut the Xfader with your weak hand too.

  • @scratchcon
    @scratchcon Před 15 lety

    if you've been doing it 20 years you shouldnt have a weak hand. im not trying to be rude but the problem with most dj's these days is they learn to crab before they can even do a simple chirp or stab, so when you come to doing 3 click flares ect, you will only be able to do it via twiddles or crabs. The best advise i give anybody who wants to scratch is crabing and twiddles should be the last thing on your list to learn

  • @BobbyBriscoeBeats
    @BobbyBriscoeBeats  Před 13 lety

    @1nnovate That's wassap

  • @BobbyBriscoeBeats
    @BobbyBriscoeBeats  Před 15 lety

    Well while my weak hand has indeed become faster, it's still not fast enough to do 3 click flares to anything but the slowest of beats. And of course crabs and twiddles were the last fader techs that I learned bro. I don't see why some people have a problem with me demonstrating this technique, it's not like it's really easy to do or anything. It sounds just like a 3 click, so why not do it if you can't do the fader fast enough normally.
