  • I take a walk in Warsaw's Old Town, with Ukraine still heavy on my mind I try to take a break from it all and explore a little if this great historical city of Warsaw, Poland.
shockingly beautiful city, I was speechless, and that's very odd for me. I can't wait to explore more if this great city.
More to come from Warsaw soon!

Most of what you've seen was rebuilt after the war. Some say there is no historic building in Warsaw that wasn't at least compared to Canaletto's paintings after the war to help the architects build it all from scratch.

It's been a very long time since I read about this. Reconstructing it. And so I wasn't sure but I thought maybe. I'm trying to remember how long a time it has been... 42 years ago was when I was reading about it. And also Krakow which has the original buildings. I thought it did. Hopefully somebody is been walking around there with a camera. The interesting people that I was looking at videos from, that live in Russia, they have taken off for Uzbekistan. My goodness the buildings there are ancient! But I was bored. Maybe it is too Eastern for me? Anyway I discovered my concepts of Russia and Poland are stuck somewhere back in the '80s. Also it seems that the public transit is so much more modern than in Boston - But also I haven't been in Boston since at least 2001 And I haven't spent any time there since like 1986. But my friend assures me that the T haven't been kept up since back then... And it's all falling apart. Probably not the city but the transit. Sad. I thought they were trying back in the '70s to get rid of parking so that people would take transit, but that just leads to a place where nothing works anymore.

But also from old plans and construction documents, some of them from 14th-15th century:. Warsaw residents hid rich archives and collections of art during the siege and heavy bombing of Warsaw for a whole month in September 1939. In addition, many elements of the reconstructed houses are original, taken out of the ruins. There are also vast medieval cellars and a network of tunnels under the city built between the 13th and 17th centuries, which were not damaged. They are worth visiting.

I was born in Warsaw and I have lived here all my life. There is one thing that is absolutely my personal favorite thing about the place. It's in the very center of the city. The building called The Palace of Culture and Science. One of the tallest buildings here (and in Europe), quite nice architecturally, a symbol of this city, that many Varsovians feel emotionally attached to. Although I like the building, it's not the building itself that is that favorite thing of mine. You see, the catch with this building is that historically it's the "gift of the Soviet people for the Poles". This is why many Varsovians loves and hates it at the same time. So after we, Poles, properly regained independence back in the '89, there was this problem - what do we want to do with this building? Do we want to demolish it as a symbol of freeing ourselves from Russian influence? That was certainly one of the possibilities. In my opinion it's very fortunate that this is not what was ultimately decided. So what have we done with this monument to Soviet power? We built many, similar in height, monuments to Polish power around it. Today, the Palace of Culture and Science is surrounded by modern skyscrapers - monuments to what Polish people can do when unencumbered by Russian influences and empowered by capitalist environment of "the west". The Palace is no longer the highest building in the city - and although it's the 2nd highest, it definitely does not tower over the city as it once did.
Every time I see the silhouette of the city center, with the palace as just one of the buildings there, I realize how wisely we have acted as a nation. We have kept a building of undoubtedly significant utility and architectural value. At the same time drowning it in skyscrapers, to reduce its symbolic meaning to the appropriate level. And I just love it :)

Gorgeous building and I'm planning on devoting an entire video on it soon. It's great, yea it has its Moscow influence all over it but you can't erase history, the building didn't do anything wrong, it's Polish and it's Warsaw. I'm glad it's there even though when I look at it is see Russia bombing Ukraine, still, the building has nothing to do with that and in the end it's one on the most gorgeous buildings I've seen in my entire life. You can't deny its beauty, it's simply awe inspiring. 👍🏻

There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! Lwów (Lviv in ukrainian) was founded by Poles in XIV century and was polish city until World War II when soviets annected it. Name 'Ukraine' come from old polish word 'okraina' meaning 'peripheries' since those lands used to belong to Poland and were peripheries of Kingdom of Poland. We lost Ukraine due to partition of Poland in years 1793-1795.

Glad you made it down Krakowskie Przedmieście and into Stare Miasto. Regarding your comment of not all of it being destroyed - actually, most of it WAS destroyed, but rebuilt. Warsaw has risen from the ashes like a Phoenix. Also, a big part of how well Warszawa looks like is due to EU money. Fingers crossed once the war is over, Ukraine will become part of the EU as well and gets money to rebuild. If you have time, go to the King's Castle, Warsaw Museum, and POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. If you think you can stomach it, visit the Warsaw Uprising Museum.

Man why are you moaning so much on Putin.
    1. Find out who were the people who set up the Soviet Union in Russia.
    2. Find out who are the oligarchs in Russia
    3. Find out who are the oligarchs in Ukraine
    4. Find out who are the people who run Ukraine government.
That will give you an answer why Ukraine is constantly at war either with Poland or Russia or separatist or people from Mars. They will choose who will be your enemy next.
