I love Ed Norton. He’s not only a great actor, but extremely intelligent. For those who didn’t know, he graduated from Yale. Spike, goes without saying, a master of his craft. Don’t
Ever quit. This movie is like a time capsule of NYC at that time following 9/11. Never forget.
25:48 - it's amazing the gestation of projects. MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN is just out now, 16 years later. There's a great interview w/Norton regarding the journey of getting this film made on Tim Ferriss's podcast.
No joke, I had been waiting for motherless Brooklyn since ‘07 maybe? I was so happy for him when finally got it made. Leaves of Grass was a really fun film of Ed’s too if you get the chance to watch it.
Incredible movie. Spike Lee is very hit and miss as a director but when he hits he hits a home run. This movie is one of them
Spike is a legend. Over 10 great movies. A legendary writer and director. Ed understands this - 27:00
HIt and miss director? Spike Lee is one of the best American directors of all time, but yeah I suppose a lot of even the best directors were hit and miss, to someone or another anyway
@@unfortunatebeam Which one is a miss I never saw him strike out
I loved Edward Norton, he is such a great actor.
Honest Person There Both Good Actors
Edward Norton is so gd incisive...”spikes never constrained by the literal”...reminds me of so many choices Spikes made in his career, but most recently da five bloods. Such a brilliant touch to make the flashbacks of the four bloods with the same actors with no reimaging
Absolutely. Well said.
I just watched it the other day. It is an awesome movie. Every scene is fire. All the actors and directing where money. I'll never forget the part where Norton's buddies are overlooking the WTC site.
I stumbled over it in the early 2010s and totally agree. Its amazing and I never had a single other person mention it. As amazing and relevant in 2020 as in 2003.
We need a blu ray or 4k of this film. Phenomenal film. It in my top 5 favorite of all time. Deep movie. Incredibly well written and performed.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SPIKE LEE FILMS
27:00 Ed Norton provides a wonderful summary of why Spike Lee is an absolute legend.
Salute to Ed for this fantastic analysis. Great movie.
Damn Edward is just too intelligent and dammit intelligence intimidates. Edward's conversations are so worth listening because Edward teaches. How did Edward get so pushed to the back and he is so talented? Hey, I get it, because today you can be beautiful and that's it, just beautiful.
Lee's 'Malcolm X' gave me a whole new level of respect for him as a director.
Very underated movie
Amazing
The older I get, the more I enjoy Spike Lee. I remember being mesmerized by the final scene in this film, where Brian Cox tells Eddie Norton he won't drive him to the prison, he'll simply drive away, and keep going, all he has to do is say the word. That put a lump in my throat, I can't lie. Inside Man is criminally underrated too. A study of race relations in America post 9/11, but one that doubles as a very smart and hip heist movie.
He was already working on Motherless Brooklyn? That only came out last year 😳
The very defination of a vanity project.
It went through a LOT of variations...the original book is set in the late '90s, and has lots of plot elements pertaining to that setting...so turning it into a 'period piece' as it ended up, involved a lot of work...but yeah, I mean total vanity project, as Biringvad said...just, in my opinion, a worthy one (admittedly, Norton is one of my favorite working actors, so...)
It takes time...
Damn now he looks like Eisenheim with that mustache and beard. So so attractive. Love it..
I miss Charlie Rose and Tavis Smiley on PBS. I especially miss Tavis Smiley since he was unjustly fired in my opinion.
Sister V Luv: thank you for your comment on Tavis Smiley. It's a tremendous loss on television.
25th Hours is my all time favorite movie.
Excellent film
This is a great film. It is Raw emotion. If they would have cut the mirror moment from this film it would have been good but not great.
I seriously think everyone at some point in their life needs to have that moment of personal responsibility.
When I see Spike or Edward's name on a film I have to watch it. Both are phenomenal people and don't get enough praise.
Da old Brooklyn in the early(2003)
Happy new year 🎉 ✨
Check out the big brain on Ed ! Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
love this film. Ed your hair tho what are you doing lol
This film is raw with human emotion..and messages for those who see them..for sure one of spike lee's best films though id say Malcolm x would b my pick...
Only one reply. Nobody gets it they talk about racism in the New York you are proud to be a Mech you are proud to be Puerto Rican you are proud to be a Jew you are who you are none of this white Anglo-Saxon Protestant white-washed shitz
Do the Right Thing

He Got Game
25th Hour

^^^^My Top 5 Spike Lee "joints"
My top 3 all time
MY TOTALLY TOTALLY AWESOME CHOICE FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH MR SPIKE LEE!! 🎉 / LOVE 💕 YOU!!
Dope movie
Well done Charlie. Let it breathe.
Shouldn't this be (2002), since that's when it came out?
How Charlie Rose didn’t know Jesus Shuttlesworth….
That hairdo is so 2003
Spike mentions David benioff. Same writer from game of thrones?
It is.
Yes
@@zugzug6773 you think 25th hour is a watering down of the book?
Where is the talk about all those different races he rants about ?
My opinion: Spike Lee's last great film. Tremendous direction and performances all across the board
Also: Funny seeing Spike wearing that hat when he himself says he's a Giants fan (Must be a NY Thing)
Miracle at St Anna, BlacKkKlansman, and Da 5 Bloods are all really good movies
Didn't care for none of them
What about "Inside Man"(2006)?
Ha! Funny you said that. I noticed the Jets hat right away and was pretty confused by it.
@@theotheraccount5895 I remember seeing him one time at some event in Central Park an he had on a joe Namath jersey must just be a New York thing lol
I think 25th Hour could have been an absolute masterpiece, but it gets too off track with the other two friends 'stuff'.
Where do you think that money was coming from_ Donald trump_
Just watched the movie first time. Great movie - got my unbreakable attention. But after... I'm thinking- how faked up Spike Lee really is in his mind?! But democrat on his best lol.
Too bad all the disrespectful and racist things that Spike Lee said were edited out of here. I remember constantly being shocked at how Ed had to constantly cover up the dumb, mean and ridiculous things he said !!!!
Can you link me those edits please? I'm curious
Just making shit up lol. Weirdo
Benioff was only ever good at ADAPTING other people’s works. When it comes to original screenplays? Manz is trashhh
What an idiotic film at an idiotic time. Spike Lee will not be remembered, This is before the economic collapse.
Shut up, man.
Go watch your 90 Day Fiance re runs
Explain yourself? What makes you think it’s idiotic?
Another overrated Spike Lee film.Stupid.He always gets a pass and I don't know why!
Interested to know why you feel this way?
