I have to make pea salad during the holidays…. And I have to use 5 cans of peas, my son and oldest grand eat half by theirselves!
My great aunt used to make pea salad all the time. I had forgotten about it, thank you. She put grated cheese in hers and sometimes crumbled bacon.

We put small squares of cheddar cheese and green olives chopped up in ours (not many), but you are right - delicious salad any way you do it. My momma always used canned peas. I like fresh peas too. Thank you!
Eggs give protein so maybe that's why they used eggs in a lot of the salads.....protein was hard to come by back in the day, but eggs were easy to get if you had a laying chicken. I'm a southern soul.
My in-laws taught me how to make this pea salad and it is one of my favorites. Takes hardly any time to put it together. Hope y'all have a great day 😊!!

My husband’s family always had pea salad for holidays. It took me YEARS (decades) to try it and now I love it! So simple and so delicious. My MIL always added a splash of vinegar to hers.

For whatever reason, I've NEVER liked canned peas. Frozen peas, YES!

My momma made this LeSeur pea salad growing up, except hers had tomatoes and cheese in addition to the onion, and no eggs. What a memory!
I put chopped hamburger pickle slices chopped, alittle shredded cheddar cheese and Miracle Whip. I only make it for holidays and birthdays, but always a winner here in Oklahoma
I love a good pea salad now that I am older. My Mom would make this when I was a kid, and I would never touch it. I'm not a fan of canned peas all these 64 years later, but I really enjoy frozen peas thawed and served in a salad served with bacon, onion, and cheese. It is a great side with a Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich.!
I can't stand canned peas but I do like frozen. I would definitely make this like yours with frozen peas and the addition of bacon, along with onion and maybe a little cheese. 😀
It's even better with chopped bacon and fresh shredded cheddar cheese. 😊

I was taught by a German friend to use 2 cans of peas, chopped apple, mayonnaise and 2 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar. S&P to taste.
I make this a lot and add sharp cheddar tiny cubes and diced sweet pickles and a squirt of Dijon mustard

My pea salad recipe calls for frozen peas as they give it a bit of crunch while still retaining the pea flavor.

Bean salad- red kidney, garbanzo, green, and wax beans, celery, onion, carrots and red pepper. Dressing is sugared vinegar, oil and salt and pepper

Needs equal parts mayo and sour cream; to lighten it up. Some shredded cheddar too, and bacon!

What's astonishing about this peas salad is that only canned peas are used. Never frozen peas. Canned peas are actually useful for something.

Please try this with tomatoes and celery. The tomatoes add color.
