The rockabillies are truly one of the most interesting subcultures that I have ever glimpsed or come across. Dressed like a bunch of extras from a Japanese production of "Grease", they buck pretty much every norm of mainstream Japanese culture there is. Loud, proud, and completely unconventional, they are decked out in a 50`s style look of leather jackets and pants, dark denim, and massive hair held together by litres of hair gel.
They show up every weekend, usually Sundays at Harajuku park to hang out, drink beer, blast Elvis music and have what can only be described as a Grease Lightning meets breakdancing dance off.
I don't see why people hate on them. who cares if one is happy?

I saw in a documentary on this hobby, the cool little shops they go to, to get their clothes and Hair gel. What a fun Hobby.
They all look so cool! I love that they have this completely foreign thing that they've taken and made their own.

I didn't know that this culture even existed in Japan at all! I'm very happy to see that it does! :D I live in Sweden and the rockabilly/rock'n roll culture is huge here, about 80 - 90% of my friends have an old American car from the 50's and 60's in the garage :)

I love the rockabillys in Yoyogi Park ! Not sure when they normally perform? But I've seen them there on weekends.

How long do you have to keep doing something to get credibility? I've been in Japan 27 years, and these guys have been doing it since long before I got here. Any of you sneerers been doing anything that long? Same place every week. The Sunday street of bands was closed down a long time ago, but these guys carry on. Police have given up hassling them - they really don't give a fuck.
where can I find them? I'm gonna visit Japan next year and I wanna see the show!
Go to Harajuku on a Sunday, and find the entrance to Yoyogi Koen (park). They'll be there.

im even following in DA some westaboos and drawn cool and love many western series that i like as lolirock, steven universe, regular show, etc
I had never heard of a Westaboo till now. I had to look it up. No they are not Westaboos. They are not obsessed with western culture. They are obsessed with rock and roll. There may have been Westaboos 20-30 years ago, but nowadays western culture is not so much imitated as appropriated, adapted, adjusted, and even improved on. In other words they make it their own.
I agree, by definition, westaboos isn't the direct opposite of weaboos. These guys are specifically into just rock and roll and rockabilly.

Cmon people. Adhering to any particular style is still copying, no matter where you're from. So stop acting like these guys are "culture thieves" or whatever, American greasers are exactly the same in essence. And there is nothing wrong with that.
