  • Appalachia, a predominantly white Republican voting region struck with decades of hard poverty. The area has been hit hard by the decline of the coal industry, leaving many without jobs and struggling to survive. With a significant proportion of the population relying on food stamps, the economic hardship is palpable. The lack of affordable medical care has led to the establishment of massive medical bays, resembling scenes from a humanitarian crisis. DISPATCH takes a closer look at the stark realities faced by the people of Appalachia, shedding light on their daily struggles and the systemic issues that perpetuate this cycle.

To some degree you're correct. But weight is affected by stress , as well as diet and quality of food. One could become overweight of junk food and still be malnourished and starving during months.
