    Thank you for sharing what you have learned from your experiences with the thin color bars and showing the honest outcomes, even if they weren't remarkable. If nature didn't put a top gem in the stone a humble human certainly can't. We can only hope to expose the best each stone can be and it can be a 50/50 at the best of times. This subject of thin color bars is extremely difficult to be consistently successful even for cutters with a lifetime of experience. Well done!

    I love them both!! youre very gentle at bringing the colour to the surface, that takes patience and talent! Im just a rockhound not a gemologist but I love the little river of potch on the second. I know opals are supposed to be clean and uniform but the little inclusions remind me that the earth is wild and Im still amazed at how they form. Theyre beautiful specimins! 🥰

      I love your attitude towards nature. The opals can be beautiful in its imperfection for sure. Its serves as a reminder that nature is wild and unpredictable. Just a rockhound, its not just its awesome. Love the exploration of rockhounding and just enjoying the natural finds in raw forms. Keep it up. Thank you for the uplifting comments and compliments.

    Thanks. I think I would try to get 2 smaller stones without the black for the lighter one. The darker one will still be pretty.

    I always try to pay attention to how the color evolves when you take more and more off the surface.
    There have been multiple times when I realize I probably should have stopped sooner because I liked the color pattern, earlier in the process.

    Thin color bars.
    But that second stone was pretty good. I think I’d have made that into a nice droplet 💧 shape to get away from the potch in it.

      algunos de los que se encuentran en el centro de Australia eran parte del mar interior que hace millones de años se secó y dejó a las criaturas muertas en años para regresar al agua rica en sílice que se bebió y les dio la textura química, organizando las esferas de sílice en diferentes patrones y cuando se expone a la luz refleja el color. Dependiendo de la disposición de las esferas, brilla con diferentes colores. el rojo es el más trasero

    whenever I see a bright color bar from the side I get excited but, having worked a few like that that end up being a disappointment, I also have to realize that it could just be a dud. The really thin color bars are problematic for me, especially if they are contorted within the stone.
    I would have sliced the corner off that second stone and made a drop shaped opal.

    • @AusOpal
      @AusOpal  Před 10 měsíci +1

      thank you for sharing your experience here. I did think of slicing it but i was filming and there was not enough to make two stones so i though i keep going. I will finish that one off as drop shape most likely. I had 50/50 with thin bars some work out fantastic when they do and others well like on the vid :)

    • @ThatOpalGuy
      @ThatOpalGuy Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@AusOpal indeed, thin bars are still difficult for me, I have only been doing it for two years. Also, I work with a dremel so I am not familiar with differences in equipment but I image a wheel removes at a far faster rate when applying more pressure.

    • @AusOpal
      @AusOpal  Před 10 měsíci +1

      yes the wheel is bit more dangerous it will get the colour off faster . i do use dremel as well and sometimes it is better to dremel a small part just to understand the bar thank you for sharing @@ThatOpalGuy
