The AVE-HDMI removes the analog blur, but for some games, it's negligible, especially if it's something fast-paced. I would recommend anyone who wants to do this to have a USB scope as mentioned or even a lighted magnifying glass so you can see through the holes of the flex pcb to the tinned vias when you're aligned. Took me flooding it with flux and trying it a couple times till all the pads had good connection but I got it in the end, very happy with the output and lack of added latency you get from external adaptors.

You couldn't be more right about a digital microscope. I bought a basic cheapo a couple years ago and it's more than paid for itself with being able to find bad solder joints or bridged fine pitch SMT component leads. Once I'm finished building my new workstation I'll invest in one that'll be tied in to my 22" monitor that I can pull out from the wall when I need to use it.

Specially when all games supported 16:9 aspect ratio and even lots of games actually only suported the aformentioned aspect ratio. Resident Evil 4 and Xenoblade Chronicles don't play well on a CRT because of that, image would display with the black bars up and down and your image would be smaller forcing you getting closer to the screen.

My HD TV comes with RCA and component cables so I don't have to take apart my Wii just to plug it in. I also have an RCA to HDMI adapter just in case I have a TV that doesn't support that. I don't like taking apart consoles if I don't have to and I am not very familiar with soldering. The only device I took apart was the PSP because there was all this gunk interfering with the buttons. The see through casing is pretty cool. The Wii is good at emulating GameCube games although I do have issues with N64 games.

A modded Wii U with Nintendont set up correctly does give out very good results tho - you can get correct aspect ratio (not stretched) and the smoothing/upscale features of the Wii U don't ruin the image for me. The Limited vs full SRGB is not a night and day difference..its very subtle & doesn't hamper enjoyment of games on a modded Wii U. The controller (either pro or gamepad)on the Wii U is also much better than anything you can attach to an original Wii and makes the games more fun to play in my opinion. Nice mod tho - seems a bit overpriced @ $80 and would like to have seen normal HDMI not mini but your results look like a fun system.

The reason i wouldn't use one of those hdmi adapters that convert the signal over is because they all have a saturation problem. Colors over saturated. Does this method prevent that because we are not translating component to hdmi or even older composite for older consoles like snes and n64?
Some of those cable adapters had ratio issues too but over saturation of colors or less good color was one of those issues so for a long time been wanting to get component cables for my wii at least. My TV fortunately still has component and composite.

xbox 360 has a similar disk tray fault... its soo much harder to deal with since the nature of the problem causes the whole mechanism to be jammed tight and normally you need to eject the tray to get it apart, not an option with this issue so you just have to torgue the drive body after removing as much as you can until stuff springs out of place and can be slid apart

A Wii U with mCable HDMI gaming edition, or wii with Wii2Hdmi adapter with mCable is a lot less frustrating but it will cost a little more since the cable is around $130. Theres a huge difference between using an mCable and not using one for both alternative solutions I suggested.

    • @mattrandall1808

@DeadPig325 there's some kind of interference in the Wii with wii2hdmi adapter that makes strange noise appear on the screen with the mcable, and zero of these interference looking artifacts with the Wii U. That being said, the upscaling makes it look incredible in both situations. The Wii U seems to handle it better, in terms of filling the TV correctly and looking cleaner, though.
