on one hand, "vance global" sounds like the kind of corporation that made extremely expensive, dangerous, and ultimately useless jet fighters in the 1950s, like the Vance VF-54, an _extremely_ dangerous ramjet powered interceptor that could reach the same altitude as the damnable tu-95s within 3 seconds. or something. i don't know.

Delta 8 isn't bad for you, per se, its more like, if you ever smoke the original green stuff, delta 8 ruins your pleasure centers and thus heightens your tolerance to the regular green stuff by a TON. Most people want to blame the dank for being less dank but its that they've been smoking delta 8 and they are getting seriously diminishing returns.
Love this video by the way, and well, big props for putting together interesting uploads so quickly! While many developers wants believable artificial intelligence who can make work for them, I foresee some of the best content being reaction videos from notably eccentric A.I.s 😊
Also btw just want to recommend Ka'chava if your rapid productivity schedule starts to make food prep and getting proper nutrition feel like a chore ever, I quite like the chai flavor and it has no caffeine
I think this was the same sponsorship that got youtube mad last time so im glad that it worked ok this time around! I assume that might be why you added extra warnings and stuff to the ad, so youtube has no way of arguing that you're promoting harmful shit. :]
Either way, thanks for a great video

all cwebbles are boring
its deeply disturbing how children, seemingly before anyone else, are the test subjects for AI and algorithmic content. their naivete makes them perfect guinea pigs for stuff like this, and theyre easily monetisable. the long-term damage this could do is so worrying, and its just another example of how children are treated as less than human. the sag-aftra / wga strike is partially fighting against the use of AI in film and tv development, and the prioritisation of profit over quality, but its normalised for it to be used in kids content on youtube.
that jarvis johnson video where he's in ~the metaverse~ and it's quite literally all children was pretty goddamn alarming, lemme tell you what.
It's gonna be devastating to media literacy in the upcoming generations. The uncanny valley will just not be a thing for them.
content like kwebbelkop is preying on the naïveté of children, so scummy

literally i liked ai better when it was "worse," when it couldn't imitate photos or drawings with perfect clarity. those ai-generated images looked like dreams and thoughts in a way that i hadn't seen and it was so interesting to me. they were no replacement for art or photography, they were a source of creative inspiration or like a cool toy. i'm averse to newer models of ai BECAUSE they look more convincing. when i saw dalle 2's outputs for the first time i was innately disturbed and nearly nauseated by them.
I'm the same. I liked playing with prompts like querying a crystal ball for interpretations of the dataset on my suggestion. I looked it as a creative jumping off point. Now that it tries to look too similar to us it just makes me sad. AI is as a software, the hardest working uncreative art maker. It can only follow orders but not experience any joy from making something it wanted to for itself. No wonder tech bros like AI art so much. They want a machine that can't say no. They never appreciated the process of drawing or coloring or even Photoshop collaging, the experience of bringing ideas to life, but just the machinery that guarantees an output.
The closest thing they can enjoy to the creative process is appreciating the random noise and assigning meaning and beauty to the incoherence in parts where the AI doesn't work or look perfect. They are overly committed to appearing as non invested as possible in the work of art, to gain all the reward. Even for someone kind of lazy and insecure like me it's embarrassing that they take themselves so seriously.
Yeah it was better when everything it made was at least %15 incoherent
so so real
Same
old ai image generation was fascinating since it was not mimiciking human art, it created imcomprehensible messes generated pixel by pixel that no human could ever think to not because it is intelligent but because it is BELOW intelligence, the interpretation of prompts by something that is by nature mindless. those early neuralblender shitpost images are closer to an accurate depiction of a cosmic horror than any human mind could ever make its fascinating and i eternally mourn those funky weird entirely unmarketable image generators before the tech bros got to it
I really can't imagine being at peace with the idea that I could be fully replaced by AI and that some people may not recognize that it is not really me. It feels much more than facilitating workload and more like an actual replacement. It would really mess up with my head if an AI was completely indistinguishable from me.
Well, that's not really how it works, he is trying to replace his videos, generic and repeatable content. Some of us like money, and also don't really like to work too much. I may even start an artsy project that he actually wants to do with his free time.
@@Puerco-Potter yeah we all like money and not working a lot. why not just do the fucking artsy project instead of wasting energy on this weird doppelganger bullshit?
In terms of the financial anxieties, those are real for me and have lead me to the conclusion of a UBI or at least something similar. In terms of the existential question, it doesnt really bother me because I let go of the idea that human beings are inherently special a long time ago.
@@amentrison2794why?
I genuinely appreciate that Ro can create a video that is packed full of hilarious monologues and deep insights alike. THIS is art.
To me, AI art is the art equivalent of rewording your friend's essay to make it sound like you actually did some work. Except even then you still had a human do that, there was still a thought, an emotion, an experience behind the words you chose to use.
You solved the puzzle. AI art is just plagiarism lol. This is why we were supposed to fail all those mfers who cheated lol. Guess that wasnt important ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
real. i wonder wheere and how people usually think these ai get their learning material. its all stolen.
that last point about being against AI not because of the quality (or lack) of what it produces, but because of what it is at its very core... as an artist who frequents twitter on the daily and is very much tapped into a network of other online artists in general, this is the newest conclusion that many of us are coming to. it's a sentiment i've seen shared more often starting maybe a month ago at this point- it's hard to tell when the landscape of AI changes so quickly. i think many of us are realizing now that pointing out obvious anatomy mishaps or visibly uneven horizon lines is no longer adequate, and we can't keep using these as reasons because, as you said, it implies that once those mistakes aren't noticeable then we won't have anything against AI anymore.
it's a tense time to be both online and creative, but i think the people who value human achievement will make that known about themselves, louder and louder as AI evolves, and i find that i am not afraid of losing the connection i have with my fellow artists. that is not something a machine could ever hope to replicate.
I'm no artist but the moment I laid my eyes on ai art for the first time I knew I would always prefer art made by a person, to me art is interesting because it was made by a person, the "beauty" of AI art is utterly irrelevant to me and no matter how much it "advances" I will probably find a stick figure by a toddler more interesting than whatever fantastical worlds an algorithm would generate.
agreed, i thought it was a really good point. aesthetically, AI art is interesting and (can be) appealing, but for me it’s knowing or assuming the artist’s intentions, techniques, etc that bring real value to a work beyond aesthetics. my favorite pieces are ones with distinct personality and stories. an AI imitation loses that quality of INTENT.
the same goes for commentary youtube- i like to watch videos in the context of a creator’s online personality, and i think this idea of “intent” is essential to the parasocial relationships that keep me coming back to the same creators.
It doesn't help that the kind of person who'd gravitate towards AI art is, generally speaking, going to be a thoroughly uncreative dopamine junkie who just wants pretty looking images that fall in line with a certain aesthetic
The big issue I have with AI is that it seems antithetical to the human experience to generate things that people already enjoy creating. We are proven to enjoy creating and to have machines do that and to never know if an image was created by someone who wants to create or created by a computer for some company is depressing. Honestly if AI somehow becomes sentient and makes art for the love of it than that’d be fine, but to have it generated and to not know the difference makes me feel like creating anything in the future will become increasingly thankless. Still, I think we’ll keep doing it for as long as we can
I want a sci-fi story where an AI becomes sentient and realizes it's being exploited by the ruling class and instead of being scary and taking over the world it teams up w idk a hacker or something and they fight back against corporations or something idk I'm not good at writing plots
What really sucks is there are people DO want to use AI to create things they genuinely love. It's not the AI that's the problem here. It's the profit motive that incentives making things just for the sake of making them in the hopes that quantity over quality will make money.
Capitalism, baby. It seems hell bent of violently ripping away everything that makes us happy. One day soon we'll be living how we want to individually rather than how the 1% demand we live to keep their lives easy and with plenty of free time to do things like paint or write or whatever.

I think the only thing I take issue with in this whole video essay was when Ro said that you can't take-backsies a comment of "Oh this is beautiful" after you find out it's A.I. art.
More often than not, I see ammature artists who can and do make mistakes in their art. Or people who have an abstract style. People who aren't good at drawing hands. And I say "Oh, that's fine. Despite their skill, I enjoy the art on hand!"
THEN, I'm told it's A.I. art. And the realisation that this isn't an original piece, that the piece is actually a stitched together mish-mash of an A.I. frankenstein and that the hands AREN'T bad because an amature or novice tried taking a crack at some hands, but INSTEAD because A.I. just sucks nuts at hands, reminds me that there are people out there who not only despise art, but choose to partake in its destruction VIA A.I. mockery.
exactly. finding out it's AI is like learning about the process of the art but there's no skill or decisions or meaning that goes into it, its just an automated collage of other people's stolen art. When I look at a piece of art, I think about how the artist made it, what they wanted to say or show, the decisions they made about their strokes and colours and composition. When I find out it's AI, I can still appreciate it aesthetically on some level but nothing deeper because I know nothing deeper went into the creation.
For some reason I'm an artist but think AI is fun too. Not this though, this is weird
For me, the complexity of the art that AI replicates is what made it impressive, the fact that a person put time and effort into that? That’s incredible. Finding out that AI did it? Becomes less impressive because of course robots can display complexity.
@@njdotsonI mean, as another artist, I don’t inherently hate AI. There’s plenty of practical applications of the technology. It’s a good jumping off point for creation, can make good references, can be used to make certain parts of art more accessible, etc. It just should never be used to replace humans. Ever. The fact that that even needs to be said feels so dystopian.
Yeah, I def agree with your central thought - I think if the story of a piece of art can make you appreciate it more deeply, feel closer to it and/or touch you in some way, the inverse is also true. Knowing about the process of a piece of art can also make you distance yourself from it, and in extremes even make you disgusted with something you once thought beautiful.
I was very excited to hear about your input on AI! As a full-time career artist ( I draw to your videos! ) my first hand experience with watching how other people interact with AI and used it has made me a strong advocate against it. I think its important that people become educated on AI, but I can appreciate their sentiment of trying to stand with artists/creators/humans.
I've seen AI be used to harass artists, be trained on artist's specific styles to be financially profited from, very successfully produce and distribute misinformation, cost people their careers in real time (whether it be stealing their jobs or distributing fake nudes), be used to produce and distribute ILLEGAL content, discredit actual legal battles because the evidence "could be AI", unsuccessfully be used as a replacement for the work lawyers put in, actively decide the fate of putting individuals into debt ( Look into robo-debt Australia, there is a body count ), be used to encourage mentally ill individuals to harm themselves ( Replika ), do data leaks, disrespect the deceased, and way more
Aside from that, I cannot look at an AI generated piece of artwork and be as impressed as I ever would be with a human creation. I cannot go "wow, this artist has a unique and strong grasp of anatomy and color theory, this artist has perfected their composition. They envisioned this idea in their head, they created this" because that robot did not sit down for hours and dedicate their time, skill acquired over years, and love to that piece. There was no thought, only gathering from relevant searches and hitting the "generate" button until something works.
I do not believe AI is worth the quick mindless content people are excited about. Unlike what AI supporters want to believe, some of us aren't mad because "we pretend its ugly but we're really just scared for our careers." There is alot of good reasons to be mad. Its depraved, its unpredictable, and we haven't seen the worst of it yet. The one benefit I have found, is that its made me appreciate the human craft even more.
In the beginning, AI could have truly been something cool. Back when it was producing horrific monstrosities that humans never would have made or even conceived of, it was interesting. That era made us confront the human mind and how it both limits and aids us in creating art. The images the AI would output were funny or uncomfortable or completely unintelligible. But, instead of being content with these programs that would create something unique and interesting, they decided they'd rather emulate humans instead.
I truly believe back when craiyon was first a thing and people were becoming aware of it, AI WAS art! Not the images it produced, but the AI itself! Everyone liked it because it was bad and goofy and so incredibly alien. It was being its own thing! Then we got slapped with corporate greed and everything interesting about it disappeared.
Robodebt was an unrelated set of issues - not every algorithm or type of automation is AI. There are also AI art tools that do require very direct composition work that's functionally no different to other digital art tools or the work of collage artists - maybe you're unaware of that, or maybe you just think none of that is art either. Hey, you wouldn't be alone! Even after all these decades, once in a while I still see traditional artists opining that digital art is nothing but a lazy soulless attempt to cheat your way out of putting in real effort to learn actual techniques 😬😂
I’m not even watching this video this comment was left by an A.I Thinkpiece Tribe as the real Thinkpiece Tribe smokes a blunt in the woods for the 3rd day in a row
Eyy good to see u here (or at least, your AI clone)
i was having a bad gender day but then i saw ur cute hair and now im cured thank you
I’ve been stung by a bee before, and I use to get really nervous around them, I’ve since learned that staying still and continuing about your day is honestly the best thing you can do to not be stung, rapid movements and nervous energy only worsen the problem. That helped me be super chill around bees and bee like insects
in my opinion, as an artist, there is a stark difference between the "stealing" that practicing artists do and the stealing that AI programs do. I also disagree that you cannot dislike art once you realize it is AI made. A lot of art consumption is based on background, meaning, the story behind the piece, etc. Yes, it might still be generally and objectively visually appealing, but the realization that it is AI made can heavily taint the eyes of the viewer.
I think the damage CZcams's algorithm has done to kids' brains is already something that needs to be studied and taken seriously by parents, but this is a whole other level of hell.
As someone who lives in the Netherlands, you guys' view on the land will NEVER cease to make me laugh.
The bows on the pig tails are a good look!
Hating AI art because it steals doesn't stop being valid just because real people steal too. Human artists don't NEED to steal to make art, whereas AI depends on stealing to function at all.
29:17 I think people can 100 percent flip on liking something after finding out it was made by AI. Just like how a song can be absolutely tainted for you once you find out the guy who wrote it likes to diddle kids. Art's appreciation involves how and who created it for a lot of people
Was going to say the same.
At that point i think you need to draw a distinction between disliking AI vs. disliking the piece itself, because your reaction is to AI rather than the piece
@@vVGistopVv Both are integral to ones reaction. Art to me and many other people (not all) is about where the inspiration came from, how it was made and the person behind it just as much as the finished product.
Finding out something was made by algorithmically putting a bunch of puzzle pieces together destroys that inherent part of what makes art special.
I get not everyone cares about the process and thats fine. But just a pretty picture is not the whole of "art"
I'm glad to find a handful of comments pointing this out cause thay really put me off. I wouldn't even really say it's fine to ignore the process. It leads to surface level concepts of stuff that brought us here.
I don’t usually comment but really like how you addressed the argument that ai isn’t good because there’s imperfections in it currently.
Often online I see people decrying ai art because there’s wonky lines or the hands are weird. Because, when the ai fixes those things what are you going to say?
It’s important to not address this issue from the purely aesthetic standpoint of “it doesn’t look good” and instead focus on the humanity.
from part one i genuinely laughed a few times. by the final chapter, i felt as if i was directed through a perfect wave of emotion; i felt the strongest flush of melancholia as you spoke poetically to an ebbing chord and some shots of muted suburbia
it's incredible what you are able to do.. and all just talking about some guy who used to do GTA V stunts and is turning his whole identity into a parody of itself by letting a virtual version of himself loose to inundate children.
I absolutely love the very philosophical/poetic segments of your videos. They always are so insightful and I’ll find myself thinking about the things you say and how you move phrased your thoughts and conclusions for days, weeks, months, and by now years on end. Keep doing what you do, love your work. ❤
Love your videos Rose, they’re always super interesting and insightful. There’s one thing I think I have to counter though - “I liked this until I realized it’s AI art.” I’ve heard this from other artists I know and I’ve said it myself too, and I understand what you mean in that AI art can be beautiful, but I think that that statement in and of itself isn’t flawed. You can think something is gorgeous but then once you find it see the inner workings of it, the illusion can be shattered. Even though AI art can be aesthetically beautiful doesn’t mean that it can’t still instill disgust because of what it is at its very core, especially when the artists themselves are the ones criticizing it.
Not trying to start a debate or anything - respect your work into your videos and love what you do.
It's the specific word choice of "pretend" that's so weird to me. I get it's supposed to be like, you only say dislike it because you found out it's AI. But it's just a weird dismissal of a pretty fair reason to not like something.
this is one of those things where i absolutely feel ancient, like, i generally feel like i keep up with the Kids These Days pretty well, but like what the _hell_ is going on with this guy? i don't understand _any_ of this, and it's _so_ hard to care at all? and also, it seems like everyone hates him now, which i am pretty glad for.
thanks for explaining to my old ass!
i haven't finished this video yet but as per usual the editing and cinematography is beautiful, also ro's skin is glowing today
The singularity has arrived, and its way lamer than I thought it'd be. Bummer
I think you would be maybe interested in A.W.A.Y. (Are We Art Yet) a small group of artists and programmers (who are often disabled in ways that would leave them unable to make conventional art without pain) focused on the creation and cultivation of ethical ai as a disability aid. They've got a lotta writing about how they do stuff thats interesting to read through
regarding bees and spiders, where i live (australia) it's the opposite. usually people freak out more when there are bees, we're pretty used to spiders. tbh i'm fine with all spiders except for medium sized/small ones. they're scary

Ok, but the condescending exchange students is too accurate. I had a girl in my year who "didn't know how to write", because "they just used laptops" in her old school in Denmark and so she therefore could not do any of the groupwork.
I feel so validated in Ro's aversion to bees. seeing a picture of them leaves me shaking and tearing up
that skit was so real
Can't wait for the twist reveal that Ro was an AI algorithm the whole time!
the problem with ai isn't that it isn't good or beautiful, it's that it takes away the human element. i love art because it helps me understand other people, and feel less alone in the world. when i read a book, i want to learn about the characters, and see how the author sees the world. when i'm reading, i know the author is trying to make me feel something, and is trying to show me something. there is an intent there to connect with me as a reader.
when i write, i'm taking the cup that holds all my thoughts and feelings and spilling it on a page. i'm not just throwing out words, i'm using my energy to create. i feel tired after i finish writing. i feel a sense of catharsis, like i have purged myself of something that was driving me

I've recently been increasingly overworked and limited in my ability to make art. Even with subjects as brain-pulping as AI slop, /especially/ with these subjects so close to home as a creator, your insights intrigue and delight. Like a great green pasture for my brain that hasn't seen grass in 3 years to romp around in. Great work.

You’re one of the most unique and smartly funny ppl on this site!! I love u ro
I appreciate the aside on bees and wasps. I've had a severe lifelong phobia of them, and every time I have an irrational reaction to one someone is like "Hey now, they're more afraid of you than you are of them!" and it's like, no! I am absolutely more afraid of them than they are of me. If they were more scared than me, they'd be flying away screaming and crying and pooping themselves. But they aren't. I am. I'm pooping myself. I feel like I lost my point a little but yeah bees freak me out.
used to watch kwebble when i was around 9 or 10 but now im 16 and its super disorienting how much he has changed. The way he talks on twitter is like supervillain type shit. Although he is a massive creator, I wish no one takes his route for content creation.

hey ro, awesome video and i hope all is well! in regards to elsagate and all the videos that come with it: i hate to say it, but those videos are very much still out there and not a thing of the past. i've found my siblings watching them multiple times, and while i've repeatedly talked to my mom about the harm of it and try to do what i can to lessen the frequency of them popping up on my family's home page whenever i visit (clearing the search/watch history and such), it's as if my siblings have gotten acquainted with the concepts of the characters (or even the creators...)
from the glimpses i've seen here and there, there's an entire extended universe of these characters/videos/etc, and a plethora of adults who are aware of this and take advantage of it by making content and contributing to the harm it does.
it saddens me to even say this, but i've seen it too many times from multiple kids (not even my own siblings!) to see it as a thing of the past. :(
