    Great job on the floor. I'm sure you saved quite a bit of cash by using your leftover pieces instead of just buying new. The way you riveted it in and adding the strips under the plate in the center made it solid as a rock. Keep sending us the updated videos as you complete each different step of your rebuild. The boat is already looking better and i'm sure you'll have a very nice rig when completed.

    I see that you use a 3/16" rivet. Where do you get the rivets in bulk. Also what is the length of the rivet. The heads also look like they are wide. Any info would be great.

    I love your videos!!!! Thanks so much for the time you put into filming and editing. A quick question for you. I have the exact same boat you do and I want to replace my rotted wood with aluminum. I have an option of buying a 4 x 8 sheet of a little under an 1/8 very cheap. Should I buy two sheets, and somehow glue them together to get my thickness. And if I did, what would you recommend, gluing or riveting or both.

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  Před rokem

      Thank you I appreciate the kind words, that’s what makes it worth it. As for floor 2 sheets would be a super strong floor for sure. You could probably just dry stack and it would be plenty. If you put a glue between them they would be like a rock. I usually rivet if I can. But If I have to use screws I use stainless. Again thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @PopPopJoe

    How do you deal with oxidation on the inside bottom of boat. (when its gutted). I just removed my rotted floor, pour foam had sucked up water like a sponge. anyway there is oxidation in spots where the foam was and under where batteries were installed. Just wondering if you ever had to deal with this issue before. I need to take care of it I think before I put ribs, insulation and new plate floor in. Any help would be great.

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  Před 2 lety +1

      I clean it real good using vinegar and a brush. Always use stainless or non metallic brush. Then I rinse it really good to remove the vinegar.

    Hey mate you were saying that you use 8 of an inch aluminium is that 3 mm I'm from New Zealand millimetres and you can buy 2 mm chequer plate sheets at a hardware 2 mm for your flooring thanks God bless

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  Před 2 lety

      Hello and thank you for watching. I would go thicker if it was me. If it’s going over a solid material you would be fine but if it’s just going over the ribs of the hull I’d try to be 3+ mm. If the spacing on the ribs is wide I’d go even bigger or add support. I appreciate you watching and commenting

  • @dirtbikerida63
    @dirtbikerida63 Před 3 lety

    What are you going to do with the gap you left between the flooring and the side of the hull? I'm rebuilding a starcraft right now and your videos have helped me a ton.

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  Před 3 lety +1

      I’m gonna be running drain pipes and electrical conduit up the sides. After I’m done I’m gonna make a removable shroud to cover the areas. I just didn’t want the floor grinding against the sides when flexing. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it

    any special drill bit for making those holes? whered you get that pneumatic rivet gun?

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  Před 2 lety +2

      Just a standard but in the size you need for rivets. I used a 3/16” rivet and bit. The air rivet gun is just a harbor freight version. I’ve put in probably 100k rivets with it. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it

  • @PopPopJoe
    @PopPopJoe Před 2 lety

    3/16" rivet are used. about how long a rivet did you use. The plate is 1/8" correct. I am guessing that the ribs or support is also about 1/8" ?

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  Před 2 lety

      You want around 5/16-3/8 of tag sticking through. Rule of thump is thickness + 1 1/2times rivet diameter. I use standard Brazier or universal crown. .

  • @PopPopJoe
    @PopPopJoe Před 2 lety

      @@bowl830 at the 3:10 mark of the video I think I heard you say 1/8 inch diamond cut. 1/8 is cheaper than 3/16. Will 1/8 had worked for your boat?

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  Před rokem

      @@TidyMighty on the tracker I did use 1/8” on that floor. The foam was flush so it gave a little extra support. On my 21’ I used 3/16. Yes 1:8” is cheaper and I had a bunch lol.
      If I’m buying it I’d use 3/16. Thanks for watching and commenting
