But wouldn't you extend a bit more understanding and help towards a visitor in your country who obviously does not speak your language? From what I saw the driver seemed quite cold and disinterested in actually helping him out. He couldn't understand the Russian because all he could speak was English. And I understand the people there might seem unapproachable at first to foreigners - maybe that's just your culture - but I'd say it was rather brash and indelicate to refuse to help him with a matter as simple as that. It'd have taken a minute tops to let him know where to buy the tickets from

No you're reading too much into the situation. One issue with all ex-soviet countries is the service quality level is much lower than what an Indian or an American is typically used to. Service providers in Russia don't go out of the way to please patrons like the way it is in India. It is what it is. But they're not being unpleasant to you because you're Indian.

You have too high expectations of what other people should act like. Russians are not Indians. Russians are social only in so as far as they know you. If they don’t know you, they aren’t going to put on a show for you. This is true for a lot of peoples.
His expectations are surely misplaced but the bus driver or any person on the bus should have helped him with the tickets because that's what any sane person would do.
It is not about being social or unsocial, its just basic manners..which that bus driver lacked. Being unsocial doesn't mean that you become rude to other person
Sure Russians are known for being very cold and unapproachable at first but he was in a country where the only language he could speak was English - which not many people speak there. I think extending a little help to a lost tourist in your country is just basic decency and I wouldn't blame him for feeling a bit put off by the whole thing

I've been to russia and you are judging them without knowing about their general behavior. The russians do not talk much and would only help you if they have time in hand. A bus driver is always running on clock that's why he signaled you once and second time he asked you to get down. And yes, tones in india and Russia are very different so it might have sounded harsh to you.
