  • Renowned virtuoso fiddle player Frankie Gavin joins ITMA Director Liam O'Connor for an in-depth interview.
The long-format Q&A style interviews, with performance and illustrative archival recordings, expand our understanding of these artists by exploring their influences and by seeking out their personal philosophies as traditional artists.
The fortnightly series premiered with Christy Moore in conversation with ITMA Director Liam O'Connor, and can be freely viewed on the ITMA CZcams Channel and on Facebook.
The series continues each fortnight with: Catherine McEvoy, Frankie Gavin, Sarah Ghriallais, Matt Molloy, Dolly McMahon, and Paddy Moloney (1938-2021).

This is really great. I do enjoy how long the warm up before he started playing was, as it was paid off by some pretty amazing playing. I loved his capacity for "imitating" the style of others. These are so wonderful keep 'em coming.

My god. The way he plays the bow to say “America” with that lift and percussive sound. Amazing. Amazing.

Excellent interview. I met Frankie here in Chevy Chase a few years ago and he was just as personable. His respect and genuine admiration for the music and the music makers was delightful. Liam I kept thinking of your Dad because he has the same love for the Trad genre and those who have carried it on. Frankie is certainly one of those people.

the volume is very low so I put the subtitles on - unfortunately they are gibberish a lot of the time - Day Dining for De Dannan 😬

Hello Chris, sorry you were having problems with the sound. Unfortunately turning on sub-titles generates CZcams's own sub-titling service, which we cannot control - hence the Day Dining.

@@ITMAVideos obviously someone with zero knowledge of Irish trad - later on we got 'tummy peoples' in a list of famous fiddlers. Great programme anyway in spite of CZcams's efforts!😆

    Can anyone tell me (Aporox)
How many players have passed through the hands of Frankie Gavin and De Danann since it started?
