  • ITMA presents singer, songwriter, musician Christy Moore in the first episode of a new series SAOITHE, featuring in-depth conversations with seven of Ireland's leading tradition bearers.
The long-format Q&A style interviews, with performance and illustrative archival recordings, expand our understanding of these artists by exploring their influences and by seeking out their personal philosophies as traditional artists.
The fortnightly series premieres with Christy Moore in conversation with ITMA Director Liam O'Connor, on Wednesday, 5 October 2022, at 8 pm (Irish time) and will be available to watch online here on ITMA CZcams, Facebook and ITMA website.

Christy is a giant of Traditional Irish music. I was born in England of Irish parents. His music and his politics have been the soundtrack to my life. Bravo Christy 🇮🇪 xxxx ❤️

From my POV Liam O’Flynn’s impact to Planxty’s success and ongoing influence on contemporary folk music cannot be overrated. I clearly remember when I first heard that band and got hooked instantly. Just as Christy stated: There is an unexplainable thing that happens to me when hearing a set of well played uileann pipes. And then there was the coincidence of a marvelous guitar player and ballad singer along with two countermelody experts and vocalists in the same band. Ground breaking virtuosos all for themselves but even more outstanding as an ensemble.

Moore's talent is unquestionable. I love his style. But he has made it his life-quest to be a professional whinger. Constantly denying that the Catholic Faith is intrinsic to the Ireland he loves; the Church did this, the Church did that, blah blah blah, all because he doesn't want to get off his arse and change his own personal life ...And also, why doesn't he go and live in one of the many Marxist utopias that he celebrates?
