I mean a good reason why the US also spends a lot more than most other countries is because one the US military has one of the biggest volunteer militaries in the world (looking at you north korea!), and the R&D of the US for military technology is far greater capacity. Most other nations usually just reverse engineer the US's tech so their R&D is lesser. Of course still accounting for that, the US would still be greater than multiple countries combined

So, unless the UK, Canada, and Australia have an unconditional alliance that says "I've got your back no matter what you do", I think their attitudes could possibly be "You brought this upon yourself, don't drag me into it." With that said, even if we completely shut out our borders, we will always have crime within our society, unless, we fulfill the needs of all members of our society. I can never doubt the tenacity and strength of the British people, that I learned from the pictures of citizens inside bomb shelters. The smiled and played cards and supported those around them as Nazi bombers destroyed their cities and their homes. Those simple pictures and the evacuations of dunkirk is all that's needed to know how the British people come together from hardships. Its something I think our countries share and I could probably assure you there would be wide scale riots and revolts inside the U.S if they did this. As much as we are the "rebellious child" England is still out historic mother country and after everything our two countries have been through, standing shoulder to shoulder in the trenches, storming the beaches of normandy, england's response after 911 and mourning with us, this is something we faced together and hasn't been forgotten by us on this side of the pond.

As a US combat vet who has met a fair number of Brits while on deployments, I can say that the average British soldier is slightly better than your average US soldier just by their tenacity alone. With the recent conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Brits did a bayonet charge on fortified enemy positions, on two separate occasions... and won. Most of the time the US would just call for air/artillery support before moving in or declare the position unattainable and retreat. We may have the largest budget, but technology can only carry you so far in war, especially a protracted one. The only reason we became the only military superpower in the world is our ability to form AND KEEP alliances. Without our allies we would not be able to sustain such power.

It takes a U S Aircraft Carrier 7 days to get from Virginia to the Arabian sea not weeks. Aircraft carriers ( The United States has 11 Nuclear powered Carriers which can sail for 25 years without refueling) are some of the fastest Naval ships. Each Carrier has approximately 80 combat aircraft and 20 or so Support Aircraft. Our Bomber Fleet can attack almost anywhere from American Bases and return in one mission. They could sit off England's coast and launch Conventional Cruise Missiles against any targets in the UK. Before even thinking of landing troops American Naval and Air Force assets would "Soften" up and destroy Strategic, Industrial and other Supply lines before invading.

The United States has a population of 320 million and England has 60 million. Remember during WW2 America supplied it's Allies with most of its Armaments and other supplies. If the war was a long drawn out affair, the United States has a significant fleet of Mothballed Naval Vessels and Hundreds of Aircraft sitting in Arizona that could be put back into service or Cannibalized for parts. These deactivated aircraft include F16, F15, F14, F18 and even F4's. Once America got a foothold in Britain we would send troops and supplies. The U.S. uses Civilian Airliners as troop transports during war, when I was deployed to Operation Desert Shield/Storm I flew over in a civilian Airliner.

The US and the UK are way too close for this to ever happen. Not only are we basically blood allies, neither side would benefit. The US and UK use business and politics to get what we want from each other, war would only get in the way of both. Not to mention our strategic strength is greater as allies, and the general public (and military) would respond very badly to the idea. Our military men have fought by UK servicemen for over a decade, I've heard more than one call them brothers in arms. A stupid, pointless war would be a disaster for the politicians. Like others said, I'm sure theres a plan (in both govts) for every possibility. But I'm equally sure this won't happen in this century. 🤷‍♀️
