I have 2 papillons, curiously never bark, very active, I take them to the fenced park and run like crazy. Very smart and very obedient . I cannot think of having other breed. So lovely.
I have owned 4 Papillons over the last 30 years and loved them all dearly. I have never seen a video that more accurately describes them than this.
This video perfectly nails the small print. âThey are smart BUT you have to find their motivation to train themâ. All the points you made are dead on to mine.
This breed sounds exactly like me as a person and I canât imagine a better breed for me.
I mean I got dental problems (soft teeth), long curly hair that requires a lot of care (my hair even looks similar to a papillon, Iâm yappy, Iâm energetic, Iâm sassy, I am not a physical affection person, and Iâm a big person on human contact and socialization. Oh yeah and Iâm smart as hell
Have my boy 16 years, never had potty training or barking issues. He has all his teeth as well. Dentist was amazed.
My boy had been raised by 4 large cats.
Great breed! Excellent in training for service dogs, too. I have seen them work well with Border Collies in herding.
Brilliant doggos.
Nice ...... Our papillon is almost 16 we love him so much he is amazing and a little spoiled he is slowing down a little I couldn't imagine my life without him
Picking up Papillon number 3 on the weekend. I have had 10 dogs over my lifetime and the Papillon has been the best breed yet. Glad you included Percy footage.
My almost 15 year old Papillon hits so many of your points.
1. Super energetic (did agility for fun when he was young) and would go on 5 mile walks with me
2. is still the neighborhood watch dog, barking at any car, leaf, squirrel, or person invading his territory, which is our entire street
3. Is a velcro dog who wants to be near me all the time, but not a lap dog at all. Next to me, not on me.
4. Super intelligent, but only follows commands when he wants to, as he is...
5. Stubborn as all hell
6. Dental is great, even though he's never let me brush his teeth. He gets a dental done every year now, used to be every 2 years when he was younger, and still has all his teeth.
7. Housetraining was actually pretty quick, though he was 4 months old when i got him. I taught him to ring bells on a shoelace hung from the doorknob and he picked it up super fast. Unfortunately, so did my mom's half Maine Coon cat, who would not stop ringing the bells at my moms house in the middle of the night, so she only puts them out now when my dog and I are visiting.
I do agree they are great dogs, just do the research so you know what you might be in for. This is a great video to show the pros and cons of the breed.
So amazingly accurate!!! I have a dachshund-pap mix who looks like an elongated papillon. He's not like a dachshund at all - everything on here applies except he's strangely silent and only barks at the doorbell. We have definitely noticed he's more like the cat than like the dachshunds we're used to. Also, we tried to just let him out in the yard to do his business which has worked well for all of our dachshunds, but found out pretty quickly that he needs at least two walks a day, one of them for at least a mile or two (we got him from a rescue, and his previous owner said that he couldn't handle her being away 12-13 hours/day, and "was a handful". No. He just needs activity and human interaction!
im not smart enough to own a papillon lol
Who is?
Mine isn't yappy but talks to me when encouraged â€â€
My boy isnât super yappy but does bark when someone is there. Canât blame him from doing his job though đ super super smart and active!
My grandparents just got one last week because their old poodle died. She's 13 and when I pet sat her she was quiet and made a nest out of my jacket. She apparently barks when my grandpa is working outside. She's reserved, not yet comfortable enough to sit on your lap, but very friendly. She's well behaved on her leash, even my cousin's 2 year old daughter can walk her with no trouble. So just give her some time and Angel will be a happy member of the family.
They can be fierce. Very protective. Similar to Yorkies
Our papillon is VERY busy! đ But we do not let him outsmart us! đ
So true... I own one:) love it and I know on retirement I will have 3 :))
My papillon is 14.5 years old. Heâs slowed down but still loves to chase his squeaky toys. He doesnât have very many teeth but heâs a happy. Iâm going to be one very sad human when he goes over the rainbow bridge . Iâd have another in a second, but Iâm thinking maybe a short haired dog might be better for my lifestyle. I just donât want to think about it to much.
I agree my little man is almost 16 I actually cry when I think of loosing him he means so much to me
Same here. 15 years now. I love my hairy little child â€
Petronella my Phalene Pappillon sheâs so very clever but doesnât bark much but gets me off the sofas for a walks used to be owned by a French Queen who had her head chopped off đ±
They are descended from royalty and not shy about letting you know it!

My papillon only cuddles if he has a toy to chew on
Donât agree with the âpeople pleaserâ thing. Itâs a trait that the Papillon does have and shares with the Border Collie, which is one of the reasons they excel at agility and have been bred to border collies to create the âBorderPapâ for sports
What dogs donât yap?
