Recently, I've been reflecting on the state of the hobby, and I wanted to take a step back to share an important message about Pokemon collecting and investing. Don’t forget to have fun and unplug once in awhile. In the end, it’s all just cardboard . . . there are way more important things in life than what kind of cardboard you like or how you choose to store or display it. On that note, today I wanted to share 5 pieces of cardboard that are particularly special to me, but for different reasons.

Always enjoy seeing people's unique collections that shows off their different value to them.
I am married with 3 kids, 4 cats, and a dog. Cardboard is my main hobby, and my family is my main focus and priority. I do dedicate a certain amount of time to my hobby, but it's not mandatory and my families worries, troubles and problems take the cake. I've heard a few times "how many times are you gonna go through those slabs"?. Haha, guilty! This video is spot on. Cardboard ain't shit compared to my family. Hopefully a few of you will get to enjoy the fruits of it.
Everything in life has a time and place, for family that place is first and that time is always.
So sorry for your loss Classics, pets are such an integral part of our lives. One positive perspective that came to mind is although the cardboard doesn’t provide in the same sense a pet, friendship or family relationship does, much of this cardboard breeds opportunity for connection with other people who love this stuff as well. Even better when these memories can be tied to a single card or cards that sparked the relationship. In the end, it’s the relationships that truly matter though, not the cardboard
Well said Sir. And wow, what a top 5! My Father in Law lost his cat of around 18 years this morning. Very sad, but we must be grateful to have known these Zen masters
I would like to share a lengthy story,
I have watched One Piece for many many years, and I fell in love with Luffy as a character. In one of the most recent arcs, Luffy (as many of you who watches One Piece knows) made a promise to a young girl that he was going to save her and her country.
My mom recently passed, and due to our family dynamic and her illness, she was naturally sad and scared of dying alone. While she could still talk, she made me promise to be there and not leave her side, but to make sure she was taken care off by the nurses.
I started collecting One Piece cards when it was released, and in my first box I pulled a Luffy card and I was so happy.
During the last week with my mom, in this life at least, I would sometimes just sit in the hallway crying and didn't know how I could find the strength to go back in and talk with her and making sure she felt safe. Meanwhile, my dad and brother didn't really deal with her passing that well, especially with the end of life treatment she was getting, so I knew I had to step up.
I would look at that Luffy card and remember how he made a promise, similar to how I promised my mom to be there, and I did find the strength to be there when she passed, to care for her, making sure she got the best medicin, talking to her, stroking her hand, and trying to make her feel safe. I understand that many people may think that it is weird or strange that I felt this strong for an anime character, but it did really help me find the strength to buckle up and go back in facing my mom and be there as she passed.
I understand it is cardboard, but looking at that card really helped me overcome pain I didn't know existed so that I could be there for mom. I will die with this card, and it is a physical manifestation that I can overcome anything.
This is beautiful and inspiring! I’m sorry for your loss, but I commend your strength and willingness to prioritize a promise to your mom over your own fear/discomfort. That’s what real love is, being there for others when they need you. The world needs more of this.

Really appreciate the message and the positivity of your content, Classics. These are things we can lose sight of the deeper you get into collecting and engaging in various communities within the hobby. Thanks for being a positive force and a good role model for other creators and newcomers to the hobby. My condolences for the loss of your cat. They're a part of the family, too, and I know how difficult it can be to lose a pet. I can tell you gave him a good life. Family and friendship is alway greater and more valuable than any piece of cardboard or collectible.

Still say you’re the most underrated content creator in the hobby. You dont use unlimited funds to make crazy videos most could never do. You are the producer, director, writer, editor, and talent with your content when most pay others to do that stuff. Your influence is one of passion for the hobby and Im sure a big impact on your students. It takes real talent to do what you’re doing unlike the new trend of letting AI apps do all the work as many use today. Your Storytelling is always on point too. Always admire your skill and work as a fellow creator. Keep up the Epicness!
Very sorry for you loss! Great reminder not to get too caught up in the hobby spending too much time and money... Something I'm very good at, is having a boundary. But I know as collectors we can easily become obsessive! There are alot of cards in my collection that I love, some from childhood, some with stories and some I just love the look of. But I I know deep down, if I had to only keep 1, it would be my childhood base set Charizard that I got graded a few years back in a PSA 😅 funnily enough my all time favourite cards are the umbreon from Neo Discovery and the Shining Gyarados so super interesting they made your Top 3 😂
Literally my parents took my cards to vintage stock as a kid, found out they weren’t worth much. Mom and dad shredded them that day. The pain won’t ever leave. I just try to teach others to be kind.

Sorry for the loss of your beautiful cat. We had a very similar situation with our cat of the same age last year. 18 years is a great age and he must have been very healthy and happy.

I’m so sorry for your loss! I just lost my cat on March 12th, she was only 10. She meant infinitely more to me than any of my cards.
I’m sorry to hear that. My cat was old and sick, so there was some solace in that. Also, he didn’t pass until after Christmas, so I got to spend a whole week with him, which I am grateful for. It was surreal, but all I wanted was one more Christmas with him and I got my wish. Stay strong fellow cat parent! ❤️
Great video, great advice and thank you. It isn't said often enough that these things we have, are just that, things. Things can be replaced, people, relationships and experiences cant. It's just cardboard.

I totally agree on your take, this is the most important in collecting your favorite hobbies. Ignore all of the people who taking advice on picking the best cards to get but lack the importance of having this in the first place. The main goal is to buy only the necessary and forget all the newer ones. Let the time pass by so you can finally get that you want when it gets low

My top favorite cards are my PSA 10 Legendary Collection Charizard holo, PSA 10 1st edition Umbreon holo, and my PSA 10 E3 Pikachu. Almost the exact same cards. Crazy coincidence we have almost the same collection!
Is the Legendary Collection Charizard the regular holo or reverse holo. Both are AMAZING! Great taste in cards by the way!
@@pokemon_classics It’s the holo. Not the reverse. It’s the rare one nobody talks about because it’s a unicorn card. Population 16. Mine also has the Mike Baker Gold Diamond sticker which has a population of only 1 in existence making it the highest graded, rarest Arita artwork Charizard in English (excluding the Australian/Euro 4th print Zard in a 10) But at the end of the day, it’s only cardboard.

Very sorry about your cat :( also not sure if you have discussed a similar topic before, but I'd be very curious to know how you store/protect your valuable cards at home. For example, do you use a safe? Do you have insurance on some of your collection? What's the best way to keep overall collections secure?

Equally relevant. Money is just paper too. The point is no amount of material possessions (money or cards) can substitute for memories, experiences, or relationships.
My base set charizard and all of my cards were shredded as a kid. Way to religious parents. I started collecting when I got older. But nothing replaces the cards my parents thought were demons. 🤦🏻♂️
