NOTHING IS SAFE! EBAY AND PSA JUST CHANGED EVERYTHING . . .
Recently eBay and PSA announced a business partnership with eBay acquiring Goldin Auctions and PSA acquiring the eBay. As a result of this partnership, collectors and businesses will now have the ability to immediately sell their newly graded PSA cards directly on eBay through the PSA Vault system. No more having to create listings, take photos, package items, or maintain sales records!
However, many are concerned about the impact this news will have on the Pokemon market. With eBay and PSA already acquiring other competitors like TCGPlayer and SGC Grading, concerns about a collectibles monopoly have been a topic of conversation. In this video, I offer my thoughts and speculations on the eBay and PSA deal including it's short term and long term effects on the Pokemon market.

I don't like this. PSA suddenly having a vested interest in the value of cards puts them into a biased position. This will give them quite a bit of power to manipulate the market in their favor. The collectibles industry continues to get more and more sketchy, smh.

I've always only collected raw and will continue. To me it's about the love of the cards and the game.

Yea, they're pretty much removing buyer sentiment from the buying and selling process. With less people holding the cards in their hands the value of said cards will be more arbitrary than ever in the eyes of investors. The market will be collectors, and people exploiting the collectors.
You made a great point when stating that this new affiliation could eventually drive market prices down for graded cards. Imagine a graded card only having 10 listings on ebay as of today, then in a few months it increases to 100+. I can see it driving prices down with the oversaturation. It might be a good idea, short term, for the sellers. But long term, not too sure.
That's my suspicion . . . I could be totally wrong, but supply and demand is more complicated than how many copies exist: it's how many copies are readily available and how motivated are sellers to move them.
There's too much focus on grading and the "value" it provides. (in the hobby generally atm)
In a few years collectibles will get government regulation like the stock market at this rate.

PSA is the most popular for all the worst reasons. PSA should at least update those slabs with that bank they are making.
Definitely would have a hit on modern. We’ll have to see how this impacts vintage. There are tons of older collectors who aren’t eBay savvy when going to cash out. This change definitely benefits them and may see vintage coming in too
F*ck eBay. Their fees are outrageous.
They could at least just take the percentage from the base price and not the price after taxes the buyer pays. Sold a 3600 card. I paid 500 in fees. So lovely😢

idc about graded cards at all, but it would be nice if i buy a grail card or something as a gift and want it graded before it arrives to me. would save the hastle of paperwork and sending out multiple times. if anything this could help consumers due to competition and lower prices, but i feel like raw market is going to take a hit. and thats what i collect. slabs are boring to me and i really dont enjoy paying a markup for an opinion on a cards condition, when i just want it for my binder or display case. the "value" doesnt mean anything to me because i dont sell or plan on selling anything I purchase.
That’s totally fair. I prefer slabs for my big chase cards, but love binders for everything else. Being able to remove and physically handle cards is always a gratifying experience.

I hate it. I honestly couldn’t care less about the 3-5 day difference in terms of flipping bc the profit margins are arguably lower without the eBay vault fee free selling.
I never actually used the eBay Vault, but it was obviously superior for sellers. More fees often hurt the consumer too.

Get ready for a crash... Mass liquidating is coming for multiple reasons. Not just mass slabbing of brand new products with more lenient grading bias to help eBay margins... But also the fact that all the 1999 kid -> Adults with Money will also eventually transition to retirement liquidation.
Certain tier collections could be best liquidated immediately as I write this.
TCA is huge in graded cards and eBay - I wonder what his thoughts are as well
I’m not sure how extensively Rusty was using the eBay Vault, but I’m also curious to hear his thoughts. He has way more expertise than I do. One of my favorite and most respected people in the hobby!

I haven't had a card graded before (plan to shortly) but gather PSA is by far the most popular choice for people. They will take an even larger market share with this move, BUT, the amount of cards in circulation won't increase, there's only a finite supply of each copy of card without re-prints of contemporary expansions being taken into account. Turn around times at PSA may increase and it may mean the acquisition of other grading companies in the near future by PSA , but that isn't a bad thing.
Seems all bad to me. Fewer options is rarely good.
This is just a monopolistic way for eBay to control the markets.
takes humility to say he's been wrong before. that's good when someone can admit they aren't always right. ebay authentication is always worth the wait, there's too much shady business on ebay. i wish they'd authenticate for even lower amounts. lol and who actually "smells" their cards lol

This seems a terrible idea imo. You’re giving the right to your cards to PSA and EBay, I would not be surprised if they store all your cards then change their T&Cs to profit more from you. In the uk you’re only allowed to earn £6k before everything else is subject to tax at the nominal rate of %20.
I graded 30 cards with cgc... with subgrades...
Oh I learned a lesson..lost all my money.

Just a case of your hobby has gone mainstream and now others are looking to maximize profits.
Your card has to be worth $250 or more to be able to be submitted to the vault
Not anymore, that was before PSA acquired the Vault.
Never been a fan of grading ever. You won't like my opinion well I'm aware it's an unpopular opinion. Here's my hot take. "Grading is for people who don't like cards"

I would really love it if ebay bought PSA. Then they could destroy it so that grading companies in Europe would have some space in the market to grow. That would be great.
My instinct always told me to avoid grading at all costs.
It's a scam. A blatant way to steal money from an already especulative hobby.
I blame whoever buys a plastic case (that you cant even open!) For premium price.

I strongly disagree with this statement (there are many benefits to grading), but you’re entitled to your opinion. I’m willing to acknowledge there are concerns and recently some potential conflicts of interests, but that doesn’t invalidate the benefits. To call it all a scam is hyperbole.
