Ok now that it's over and I can avoid coming off as a troll....this is one of the best places to hear real hockey talk and not the loud bluster heard on most of the sports talk up here . CZcams algorithm landed me here. I checked in every day of the series for the Canes perspective. This is a great show.
Last thoughts: I wish these teams could play 10 more games. And if you guys let Brind'amour walk, you're insane.

Me too I enjoyed all the hockey talk without all the rude as*holes it was fun but stressful and i'd agree there will be teams lined up with their checkbooks to steal your coach who is great. I know all the fans are emotional but the biggest advantage for the Rangers was goaltending and the Rangers have a shot against anyone in a series because of it.

Im a lifelong ranger fan, I’m born and raised in new york city and still live in NYC and personally i felt like the rangers looked manhandled and weak in this game. I saw them getting outworked, out hustled and they looked discombobulated and flustered like weak men like they couldn’t handle desperation pressure like that from the Canes. I don’t even know how they won this game. They need a penalty to score a lot of the time they are weak 5 on 5. Then it looked like the canes were going to win until that pathetic disgraceful penalty call on poor Jordan Staal who was just making a good hockey play. That was not a penalty by any stretch of the imagination he was just pushing off and the official wasn’t fooled by embellishment. Thats the leagues effeminate every kid gets a trophy removal of most of the physicality of the game which is unnatural for hockey. They are doing the same thing in football in essence destroying the game. So teams are winning by accident or by crap calls that are deflating other teams that are playing good. The Rangers got lucky, Anderson is not a good goalie. I applaud kreiders talent but he had some help from disgustingly bad officiating. I thought the way the Rangers played on Monday was disgraceful, looked like heartless effeminate weak mean. And I’m not gonna go along with all the hype for this win because i didn’t like the way they played again in this game. Then when the officials make a crap call like that and victimize poor Jordan Staal im not gonna support what the league is doing to the game overall. Im a Ranger fan but im a realist and i appreciate when things are earned honestly and most importantly the game is played properly which they aren’t doing in recent years with these soft crap calls. Just like the NBA the league is low key rigged. It takes the grit and passion out of the game. In the 1994 playoffs in game 7 Messier hooked and upended a player it was either one of the devils or cunnucks right behind the net with a couple of minutes left and they didn’t even call it. Could have been assault the penalty was so intentional. But that was the way the game was played, you didn’t call those at that point in the game when the game has implications that big. So it’s amazing they make up penalties today like the one on Staal. Sorry to blow smoke up all your asses but what I’m saying here is all true. Everything is fake today, instead of earning things we encourage others to fall on their ass and give it to them. They need to stop calling soft crap to encourage scoring. You wanted real hockey talk well here you go.

    • @MaChao2
      @MaChao2 Před 12 dny

@@mariologuidice2109 Relax a little bit buddy. First off, BOTH of these teams got PLENTY of soft calls. The Kreider penalty on Jarvis wasn't much more than what you seem to be so conflicted about....
Not to mention the fact that the officials MISSED Brady Skjei putting the puck over the glass, and before you say boo - the refs came together and discussed it. The current problem is that puck over the glass is NOT a reviewable play right now.
Next year it will be, and coaches will even be able to challenge it. However, if you decide to challenge the ruling and are unsuccessful it will cost not only the requiste timeout but also a penalty to 2 players, meaning you'll be in a 3 on 5 situation.
I believe that is the officials way of discouraging unnecessary challenges for a ruling that will be called correctly ALMOST 100% OF THE TIME - WITH REPLAY AVAILABLE NOW, THAT IS. There should be VERY FEW situations which will require a coach to actually challenge a ruling on this after next year.
ANYHOW. Going back to our game. The problem was that no official actually had the full line of sight - to watch both Skjei's shot on the puck from an angle which they could see it DID NOT touch Lafreniere's stick, AND an angle to confirm the puck did not hit the top of glass as it was sent over.
Between the four of them they recapped what each one saw and could not put together the full penalty. However those of us watching at home did CLEARLY see that Skjei shot it, Laf stick never was involved and it went of the glass without hitting the top. The jumbotron in Carolina showed this as well, you didn't even need instant replay to confirm.
But since the refs are currently confined to go by only what they saw when it comes to this penalty, they could not establish it and waived it off...
KNOWING THE RANGERS WERE DENIED A POWER PLAY THEY DESERVED.
And now comes your own opinion. We all know they do this; they "even it out" in the spirit of the game. They missed this call and knew it, so they gave a soft whistle to Staal to make up for it.
Whether you think that is right or wrong is your personal opinion but we all know they do it.
Many times I've seen the refs miss a deserved penalty by the Rangers, only to jam us with a soft one a few minutes later.
It happens and that's it. They try to get the spirit of the game right and there are different takes on that.
Tell you what though, doing an INORDINATE AMOUNT of whining and crying about a soft call that was to YOUR TEAMS BENEFIT doesn't make you some kind of hockey guru, don't care how long you've watched. Yeah, Messier played dirty. It isn't a revelation.
In the last game of 1994 there were TWO negated icing calls near the end of the game that had John Davidson's eyes popping out of his head. Vancouver had significant chances from these. This is hockey.
By the way a power play alone does not a goal make. It took one of, in Brian Boyle's words, "the greatest tips I've ever seen in my life" to get that one past Freddy. He isn't a cardboard cutout friend. The puck was headed straight for his glove before Kreider's masterful tip sent it over his other shoulder. Nothing is free.
To conclude this I know you think you're being atavistic or even handed in your reaction of the final penalty, but there is a reason these things go 7 games potentially and part of it is that no SINGLE call like that decides the series completely. You may think its shameful to win like that, but I can promise you 2 things:
      1. RANGERS did MUCH more to win this series than just scoring on that power play
      2. If you are expecting to hear the same sympathies and sentiments from the opposing team, you'll find yourself in a very quiet place. If you don't believe me just watch how the Florida Panthers play hockey and see if you feel so agitated by our Ranger ruffians.
      Good day sir.

you say it's not a goalie problem, but every single game the Rangers goalie is getting saves when they need them. Anderson does as well, but every single game even in the islander series he lets in goals that he shouldn't I am a firm believer that we should have rotated goalies or put Kotchekov in net more often.
The canes did well in both periods 1 and 2, I completely agree the team dropped the ball in the third period that cost them the game, but having a goalie there to bail out a bad period is something the Canes didn't have this series. When the Panthers last year and Rangers this year had that.

If Freddy was facing the barrage that Igor faced every night from your team, he'd give up 6 every night. Your team is built on outchancing their opponent. Rangers are built on keeping it close, and taking advantage of PP (not to mention SHGs) and our PK. How many PP goals did Canes have in first 3 games vs how many PK. Freddie gets away with it against the average teams, hence Canes can pile up wins during regular season. Yes, the philosophy of defense isn't part of Canes game, since they are run and gun.

This was such a weird reverse of game 5 the Rangers had a 1 goal lead and came out flying in the 3rd hit a couple of posts that probably would have ended the game and the momentum changed after a goal. I don't think it's fair to blame the loss on the goalie though only one of the goals wasn't great or a bad hop and the Canes got quite a few hops and breaks in the first couple of periods. You can see why so few teams can come back from a 0-3 hole though you have to be great and lucky to get 4 straight. If they do let their coach go there will be a number of teams lined up to take him off your hands and it would be a mistake by Carolina. I'm still confused as to why you guys think the backup goaltender is any better than Freddie, he's not that was the biggest advantage the Rangers had going into the series. What a weird series though I expected 6-7 games but not in the way it happened.

Did you watch the same game as I? Shesterkin was not shaky as you report - Canes outplayed NYR in the first two periods. Also, Martinhooks save was remarkable but if you look at the replay it was more Newtonian physics than anything else - he couldn’t help but slide to the puck. When the NYR found their game in the 3rd sparked by Kreider, well, the Csnes didn’t look so formidable. Oh well. LGRs!!!!!

Without midseason goalie debacle, Canes probably win Presidents Trophy. In a way curse lives on.

Intriguing!!! The reality Canes were the “best” team in the regular season and now lost in the playoffs.

Ranger Fan here- You guys were the better team and it wasn't close. We harped on the PP and converted on chances we got...Having said that playoffs is about seizing opportunities and the Rangers did that. All credit to the Canes they are a SCARY team

Lmao canes fans are the worst. I’ve never seen the puck luck canes got this entire series. Don’t shock me yall see it differnt but once again 90% of canes fans only watch the games when their team is in the playoffs. Enjoy being mid the next few years too. Nothing better than watching that little canes fan cry
