Greetings Heathens! Today’s episode is very special, it’s Vi’s Birthday! Happiest of Birthdays, Vi! We love and adore you! In today’s episode of Talk Heathen, the dynamic duo are together again, Eric Murphy and Vi La Bianca.
Let’s get to calls, our first caller is Robert in New York. He is calling about the religious and “repeatable” proof of a paradigm shift with the use of DMT. Now he claims he can achieve this same effect through yoga. Everything is connected, man!
Jeff in Pennsylvania wants us to play Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You” on the show! ...but not really. He is really calling again to tell us God and Christ loves us and this love doesn’t come from him. What is Love? Baby don’t hurt me! Eric again breaks it down for him.
Next up, Chuck in Michigan has gotten over his first time caller jitters and has called again claiming he has an argument against natural selection and evolution. Oh good! As usual, Eric and Vi help him through these arguments and make their case for evolution.
Brandon in Arizona calls in talking about original sin and the goodness of God. Also claims that our DNA changed in the garden of Eden. But how did it change and who changed it though? Oh, it was sin? So an apple changed our DNA way back when…and we are born with Satan’s DNA. Oh, that’s delicious. Brandon, is doubt a problem and why?
After that wild call, Jonathan calls about conversing with his family after leaving Jehovah’s Witnesses. Walk into any conversation with family members still in that cult, make sure to set boundaries and terms and leave if they cross the line.
Kenneth is also an Ex-JW and calls in to say that the fact there is no afterlife paradise sucks. Religion definitely does a disservice here because it doesn’t equip us with how to deal with death.

This guy is actually pretty condescending. He smiles and said I love you and pats you on the head and then behind to preach to you. Just call him out and his "i love you"for what it is.
There is no example, ANYWHERE, of unconditional love. Not a pet, not a person, not any THING. Anything that is capable of feeling love will have a limit to how poorly the object of their affection can treat them before the love stops and they move on.
That's funny. When the clip started I thought "They're sitting at an interesting distance. Oddly close." Now it makes sense.
Anyone who has a shred of love in them wouldn't order genocides or create a pit of fire so that he can roast people there forever.

My fanatic mother used to beat us bloody while screaming the name of Jesus Christ with a full smile on her face. Ahhhh the beauty and splendor of christian love.
And I never had any religion, and we both find it ridiculous. Kind of covers off the "your just angry at God" angle.
On a more personal level, I'm glad you made it through and I'm really sorry that you had to live through that. I can't say anything to help with the past, so I'll just say: Good to have you here my friend. And I hope your future is bright. 🙂
@@blarglemantheskeptic Thanks for the kind words to this old man at the end of his days. I survived and thrived. As an aside my psychiatrist that I saw the instant I left home at 18 said she'd never heard of a more horrific child abuse case, " You should be a serial killer." Instead I became a loved teacher and care giver and bartender who volunteered with the homeless and the hungry. Life is about how you deal with shit and not the shit itself. Your kind words meant something to me.
I didn't know Vi and Eric were a couple. Even though I'm alone I'm happy for them, therefore god. LOL!
Love is definitely something not associated with the god of the Bible. I think of god and his minions in the same way that I think of being slapped in the face and spat upon.

Love is most authentic when you believe it comes only from a person and their current feelings. Not a supernatural being, commitment, memory, or worldview, but instead the way they honestly feel about you today.

Jeff's become just sad to listen to, such a slave to an ideology that he outright refuses to take credit for the positivity that he himself is responsible for. It's a despicable and sick game of "always give me credit, always blame yourself".

If you look a they way God is portrayed in the Bible, “love” is not the word that springs to mind.
Cruel, capricious, malevolent, petty, vindictive...all of those would be more accurate.
The Biblical God preaches the exact kind of love you would hear from the mouth of an obsessed, narcissistic stalker.

What if someone doesn’t believe in enemies
It's just another argument based on making a baseless claim of 'This thing people made up is responsible for X' despite there being no reason to think that's the case. It's inventing an original point that really just comes across as, honestly, kind of obnoxious.

It's just...honestly obnoxious, and is also an unfalsifiable claim. It comes across as honestly kind of backhanded too.

So, Love is the chemical reaction in my brain AND MORE (which presumably comes from God). Cool. Is it the same with hatred? Also a quite similar chemical reaction in my brain, like love. Does hatred also come with AND MORE, coming from the same God? What about murderous feelings? The concept does not really add up in my opinion.
Christians like to talk about their god being omnibenevolent - all-loving - but, the way their god is described, I don't recognise that as anything that I would call love. They talk about their god like a parent but parents behave in certain ways because of the limitations placed on us by the environment we live in. The Christian god has none of those limitations and yet behaves in those same ways, but worse. That's simply not anything that I can recognise as all-loving.

Doesn't Eric often end calls by saying "love ya brotha"? I'm trying to figure out why this bothered him so much.
I'm sure Eric probably says it to his girlfriend as well or his mother or Vi or at the end of his calls. Were you paying attention to the vid? They pretty much explained the difference and why "I love you" can come off as degrading. Similar to how atheist put up a barrier or get annoyed when Christians who say, "I'll Pray for you."
I'm sure if anyone had a problem with Eric saying such thing and called him out on it, he'd probably respect them and stop saying it.

When theists say “I love you” to someone who disagrees with them, it’s with an snarky attitude behind it. Much like down south when folks say “bless your heart”. It can be used as a sincere expression of sympathy or genuine concern or can also be used as a precursor to an insult to soften the blow.
It is also sometimes used to mean "you are dumb or otherwise impaired, but you can't help it" by individuals who wish to "be sweet” and do not wish to "act ugly".
