    The Base Camp is a great starting point, and with a few minor tweaks you can turn it into a more capable, attractive looking RC truck. Today I will show how to remove paint from the painted window sections and redo the details on them without the use of window stickers. It takes a bit of time but the result can be very rewarding. I'm also adding a splash of color by putting some left over Axial Bomber stickers on the sides and we explore the possibilities of 3D printed details by having a look at some of the Knight Customs parts available at MyMiniFactory.

    Featuring a lot of familiar ingredients, combined with a non-licensed body this could very well be the basic RC truck that you have been waiting for, or perhaps you want to get your feet wet in the hobby and are looking for an entry level ride: the BaseCamp has you covered! It still has the fantastic portal axles with the high-entrance pinion gear, the steel C-channel frame rails that can be adjusted in length and a full range of Spektrum electronics. Add to that a few licensed items like the Demello Offroad front and rear bumper, the Falken Wildpeak 1.9 sized tires and some fresh looking Black Rhino rims, and you have a very good starting point to evolve a truck that is entirely to your own taste and liking.
    From the website: Available in 3-colors (Blue, Green, and Gray), the New Axial SCX10 III BASE CAMP delivers on so many levels. Whether you are seasoned R/C Rock Crawling veteran, or are brand new to the hobby, the SCX10 III Base Camp platform will be your go to rig. Conquering trails right out of the box, or ready for your next scale performance driven creation! With the all-new LCXU Transmission, Easy to mount body posts, and amazing new price-tag, the SCX10 III Base Camp will be there for you on your next adventure!

    Very nice job. Have you tried using Tamiya - Polycarbonate Cleaner - to REMOVE dried paint? It leaves the clear lexan gloss, but you have to be careful where it ends....it will also remove the green, so you can mask and area and then start removing paint. I wonder it it works on Axial paint.

    Next cheap mods will be 3d printed parts I guess? Just the front headlights would make it good enough to give it a finished look, the other small parts like wipers and handles are maybe not so much needed now that you have decorated the side, but I guess you'll put them on while you're at it. Yes with a few mods the body is looking way better than the stock form, and a touch of paint always helps. Black lining the outer parts is a great idea, and I've been leaving it aside for quite a while now, but will do it on my ecto to break that all yellow color. I also painted the inside of my ecto black, which helped change the tone of the yellow and it's not so bright anymore and looks better for my taste. A trick I learned for the lining from Gundam is to score the lines for example the door lines with the back of the exacto knife to give it just a little more depth and help the very runny paint flow and settle nice and easy in the groove. Good job making the body not so ugly anymore!

  • @avipatable
    @avipatable Před 2 lety +3

    I have done this on my TRX4 Defender with the awful stickered windows. The hardest thing in this whole area imo is finding a decent driver figure who is not an X man or some other comic book character - and the right scale... We really need a ~1/9 scale figure for our crawlers and they just don't exist :(

    • @hemistormrc
      @hemistormrc  Před 2 lety +4

      I think there would be a huge market for some realistic shaped figures. I hate the wrestlers and such, it’s played out and looks horrible.

    • @paulschryer9571
      @paulschryer9571 Před 2 lety

      - I bought my "1/9th scale figure, at DollarTree, for $1.00, back - about 9-months ago, - before they now just raised the price on all items to a $1.25 ! 😫 Rates, bro !!!😆👍 - I call him Mr. Mullet, (cuz he has a mullet), and he is well made, for just a "buck" !!! He is black & silver (clothes). Plus, he has a mean expression on his face !!!! 😆🤣🤭... He fits perfectly in the older AXIAL "CORBEAU" SEATS, which are made of solid plastic. Mr. Mullet, stands at exactly (5.5" TALL)...(2.0" at his shoulders/arms), and I "still think" - "HE MIGHT BE A "LITTLE BIT"- SMALL" !! 🔎...🤔
      - IF YOU CANNOT FIND ONE, or do not have access to a DollarTree...
      - I suggest buying/ordering a (very realistic-looking) "WALKING DEAD"...
      ...FIGURE, THEY COME WITH ACCESSORIES, & THERE ARE A FEW "GOOD-QUALITY" MAKERS, OF THESE FIGURES, - [BUT, THEY WILL BE THAT -("A BIT BIGGER-SIZE")...WHICH MOST PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR, - FOR THEIR "SCALE CRAWLER" !!!! 😉👌🤘😎 - I hope this helps !!! 💪🇺🇸

    • @avipatable
      @avipatable Před 2 lety

      @@hemistormrc Yes the wrestlers, me too! I was contemplating designing a good figure - one with removable "slices" of lower back and top of the back of the legs - specifically for sitting in RC car seats - so they look like they sit in the seat rather than awkwardly on top of it. The fact your reckon it might be popular means perhaps I should give it more thought!
