If I married a black or mixed race man, I would just teach my children that we were mixed race. Don't see what the big deal is about being black or white. After my mother's death, I found out why she made it crystal clear that I wasn't welcomed in her life.. I found out why she would never answer my questions about her behavior or why it felt like her and dad kept secrets. I discovered by following my feeling and point blank told my second oldest sister that I was pretty sure that dad was not my real father. Then my sister dropped a truth bomb she told me that it was true, my mother had a secret affair and gave me a fake name, using my birth fathers middle name as his first name but myDNA test results proved who my real father was. I also discovered that I had a mixed grand parent (Nigerian) I laughed because it explained where I got my golden skin ( olive skin) and frizzy curly almost black hair. My son also looks like my birth father.. Its great that you're raising your children in Christ. Technically, we all have the same ancestors and we were all made from God. He loves is all the same

I loved listening to you two. You are my Christian brother and sister. I was raised in the Deep South which is very racist. I’m white and I didn’t know how to handle it as a child. I loved people and still do. We are all gods children. I lived in conflict for years being told how I was supposed to feel. I knew what my heart felt and it wasn’t hate. I married two men in my life both white and raised my kids to hate no one because we are different in color. To my surprise my adult son and I had and argument about work. At the time we both worked in a oil refinery and I had a black supervisor I had problems with and my son informed me the problem was because I was a racist. I was devastated. I said you just don’t like her because she is black. I said that is so untrue that I didn’t raise him like that. My son has always fought for people whether black, Asian, any race other than white that was being treated unfairly because of there race. Someone asked me one time with the way your son is what would you do if your son had a black or Asian or Mexican grandchild? Would I except the child and I said I would love them unconditionally. Do your DNA. Practically every African American is of mixed race. The cycle is continuing with this generation. African women were having mixed children the moment they arrived enslaved in this country. Those children either married another African or someone who's considered white. That's how we get the different hues. Halle Berry's mom gave her the best advice when she asked her mom about her heritage, her mom said look in the mirror, what do you see. That pretty much settled it for Halle. Halle will tell you "I'm black going and coming." Always let your child know that being African is strong and unique and to embrace your African heritage. Love yourself. You're beautiful. That African gene is strong, as people we call Africans are the indigenous people of the earth. You will never find the word African or Africa in the Bible, because Africans are of a different biblical name. Eve is the mother of all, who is from the region we call Africa. Everybody do a DNA. You'll be enlightened. There's always a little section called "other" on almost every one I've seen. That's Genesis...Adam and Eve.

After over 28 years together and a child of mixed parentage (we do not consider bi-racial to be a way to categorize a human being because we are all of the same race), talking and sharing and loving is the best thing. We have always discussed colour and culture, and we travel and experience different parts of the world and nature and beauty of God’s earth. My approach is never to let anyone come up and touch your hair or any part of your body- it’s your personal space from the top of your head to the sole of your feet.

We can all live in a bubble but there is a world outside that bubble that you'll as parent have to prepare your children for. Having an identity is very important. So being honest with your children about how the world outside can be is imperative. It's nice that your parents provided you with a Utopia unfortunately most Americans didn't grow up that way. There is a history here that continues into a present. It nice to say the right thing, but many of us lives in a reality that is completely different.

Now that she is an American citizen, she is considered African American. Puerto Rican is not a race, but a nationality. They are a mixture of Black African, Taino Native and European White. I call myself Black American which is not pure African Black, if you understand our history. So, if you say your kids are part Canadian and Norwegian, that means they are part White. It broke my heart n I cried n wished aloud, I was white. Mother then told me in her soothing voice, "that I was beautiful just as I was. That you can do anything you want to do in life as long as you are willing to work hard enough". Not sure when I became aware of my blackness. Correction - America sees them as nothing but black. In my country of Trinidad and Tobago, someone who has parents of two different races is legally classified as being of mixed race. I'm of African descent and I've been married for 38 years to a South American Native Indian whose great grandfather came from Scotland and settled in Guyana, South America. Our children therefore identify as mixed and have happily and proudly claimed their heritage from both parents. It's a sorry state of affairs when people are pressured to deny one half of themselves because of the racist ideology of one drop of black blood. But I do believe a change is coming for you all because this new generation of both Blacks and Whites are not afraid to challenge the status quo. Peace and blessings.

As a 57 year old bi-racial African American man I have several perspectives on this subject. First off, when I was born, interracial marriage was still illegal in the United States in Virginia. Secondly, I grew up hearing the old saying of American racism..."One drop of Black blood makes you Black."
I was raised in a Black neighborhood and forced to attend a White school. While some Black people in the neighborhood treated me poorly because I was mixed and so fair skinned, and the White people in my school were so unbelievable cruel. I was beaten and bullied every day. Even the other Black kids, also forced to attend this school, wouldn't help me because I wasn't "Black enough." So, because of this, I identified as Black. I used to dye my blonde hair darker brown and lay in the sun trying to get darker skin.
Fast forward to today, I see bi-racial kids and teens expressing their identity as BOTH. And I love this. It makes me sad that I couldn't explore this when I was younger. For most of my early life I was taught that White people were "the Devil." Terrible thing to tell a half White child, but that's what I saw them as. That's how I saw them behaving. It wasn't until I was in my early 30's that I started meeting actual kind and caring White people. And suddenly I was able to see that not everyone of them were evil.
I still consider myself Black and have some difficulty acknowledging my White side. But now whenever people ask me what I am (and that question always comes up no matter what) I say I'm bi-racial.

We were only made to understand why most people back in the days hide their relatives to prevent them from travelling to "Whiteman's Country" because they may never return.
But racism was my number one cultural shock when i travelled. I was baffled that someone will just hate me bc my skin color is black. Fortunately she was loved equally by the white half of her family and the black half and she was always secure in her identity and in love. Her white grandparents never spoke negatively about other cultures or those of different heritages, so it never occurred to me that different was anything more than uniqueness. You and me and all parents who raise our children celebrating their uniqueness and focusing on what makes each of them special... I think we are doing what is right.

I am a woman who is multiracial. My mother was black and my father was white. My mother raised me and my brother by herself (my mother and father seperated when I was a child).
My mother let us know that the world would see us as black people, she told us we have the best of both worlds (much like you said you are doing with your children). She explained that we are biracial but we would be viewed as black people. I grew up to be a well adjusted person who embraces both cultures, as well as all cultures.
The problem can be with other people. I know who I am but others always ask, 'What are you', 'You must be confused because you don't know what race you are' or, 'you don't understand black culture cause you're mixed'.
All of those statements stem from ignorance. I'm a human being, I'm not confused at all and I was raised knowing so much of black culture but also laying about many different cultures, I believe it's better that way.
Overall, I think you guys are doing a wonderful job raising your beautiful children! Keep God first and always tell the kids you love them. Love and confidence are some of the biggest things that will help.

I agree with everything you guys are saying however if your kids look black which they probably do they're going to have a black experience not a mixed experience or black white asian experience. Me being a dark black woman raised in a Christian household After I moved away to the real world and college I finally opened my eyes to racism and then it was horrible I was not prepared as a adult I began to see racism for example applying for law school I was told that admissions was closed by two white women a week later I called to find out when the next semester admission was open come to find out admission had just closed. Years later after I've achieved that level on my life I was applying for medical school I was giving a hard time and told by more white women that admissions was closed and because I was gullible I thought these people were honest I did not know that I needed to double-check behind what people say because racism does exist. A month later I found out admission was open and had just closed. Looking for houses I did not know that I was turned down because of racism, traveling looking for a hotel room racism. Allowing people to get ahead of me in line because I thought I was doing a Christian thing and I did not know that their motivation was racism. It is not cool being blind to racism. I think it's better to know the truth growing up.

timeka bolden you are right. thats the first thing i noticed. majestic family, ms boldon may have been the first to express it to you, but not the first to see it.
also, jesus was black so your children are BORN in his image and it is the Eve gene, not adam who creates a races.
