I was an usher for the Los Angeles Show. Ms. Verdon kicked ass every single performance! And she was friendly and approachable while she did her warm ups and stretches.( a great dancer/athlete). I'll never forget you!
I saw her do this role twice on Broadway. While watching her, the word that kept coming into my mind was “genius.” She was the perfect combination of voice, movement and personality. I’ve seen many Roxies over the years, and to mind she is still the best.
just from videos i've seen, audio clips I've heard, I've become a huge fan of Gwen. She was perfect for this part. What a killer performer: Great voice, far above terrific dancer, and so so funny, her personality was so likable and quirky. I can only imagine how great she was in Sweet Charity
She was Jack Cole`s assistant at Fox and (much heavier, etc) she used to coach Marilyn Monroe. One day she decided she no longer wanted to be `the voice` or `the steps` and she slimmed down, made a few physical adjustments and became campsaigning for Number One. I remember Jerry Alder telling me about `Damn Yankees`. Marilyn wanted to do it but weas told Gwen had the role. Monroe could not believe it. Could not believe it. She made a fuss demanding the role. She did not play it. Gwen did and weas superb. I was Gwen on Broadway at the Palace Theatre. Her performance so knocked me out I tumbed down 10 flights of stairs (carpeted luckily) I thought at the end of it, as I was tumbling, I would either end up dead or ina wheel chair for the rest of my life. I survived miraculously (I was only about 110 punds) and went it to catch the second act.
Peforming (SIC)? This isn't a performance. Anyone can post a photo over a recording. What would be interesting is video of Gwen Verdon's actual perfomance that included dancing.

What a treasure! Listen to how she plays with audience!
Gwen really had the audience eating out of her palm here. If only there was some real footage of this. That would have been a sight to see.
