- Based upon Walter Parratt's psalm chant in D (no 179) in The New Cathedral Psalter. Parratt was one-time organist at Magdalen College (1872-82), and St George's Chapel Windsor Castle.
Another chant arrangement here:
• Funky Psalm - Hudba
Oh dear, am lost for words. Apologies to anyone who sought comments like 'how nice'. Reminded me of one of those call centres where the same incessantly saccharin tune is played to the increasingly impatient caller before it cuts in with "we are experiencing an exceptionally high volume of calls".
Better with some Coverdale text of course.
Although King Edward VII's reign wasn't especially celebrated for compositional excellence, it did include outstanding 'greats' such as Stanford, Parry, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Charles Wood. Mr Parratt's strengths were perhaps more as a teacher and organist, sometime at St George's Windsor and as Master of The King's Music after holding the equivalent post in Queen Victoria's reign.
It shows a melody ,however basic , can be arranged to 'lighten up' a musical , or devotional experience.
