      Thank you very much, I really enjoyed my visit - it's certainly a lovely space and if you liked this one you'll also enjoy seeing Dr Simon Olpin's jungle garden I uploaded recently. Thank you all for a wonderful garden walk.
    This is a plantsman’s garden, with a firm understanding of his goals.
    Good design is not what you say yes to, but what you say no to.
    For all the diversity, the restraint is abundantly apparent.
    Acer, prunus, hydrangea, magnolia, scandents like Lonicera mesnyi and Jasminum nudiflorim for height, and so much more , have a legitimate role in a sub tropical garden.
    The geranium looks quite at home, and that is the point.
    I’m sure a gardener in India would LOVE a Clematis Henryi.
    Alocasia Portora, and Calidora
    Borneo King
    Edgeworthia
    Daphniphyllum
    Magnolia ashei
    Lycoris
    Hippeastrum x johnsonii

      @GeorgesJungleGarden  Před rokem

      Thank you very much Susan, for your kind words, wise insights and lovely plant suggestions! You are completely right, a design that works doesn't just depend on where the plants come from or the amounts of varieties used but how they tie together and the cohesive feeling created with a careful eye and clever use of colour. Jane and Allan have created a beautiful space!

    George, I love the point that you made that not every plant has to be tropical or marginally hardy. I’m in Western New York, and a lot of native plants in my area like buckeyes, Pawpaw (Asimina triloba) or Iris versicolor. Even peach trees have a nice tropical vibe.

    Nice garden tour, as with Yorkshire Kris's tours there are the usual suspects plants repeated and these are a good foundation to start with like cordylines, bamboo, tree ferns etc. It can be tricky or difficult to get some exotic plants, I've been lucky this year, hopefully next year goes just as good.

    It really feels like we have missed out starting our jungle garden this year, the prices are insane now, chances of getting a dicksonia fern are zero and palms are super expensive. Do you think prices will ever recover or is this the normal now?

      @GeorgesJungleGarden  Před rokem +3

      Hi, it’s definitely an amazing hidden gem in the streets of Winterton! As for your question, I definitely don’t think it’s too late, you haven’t missed out. I think a lot of the prices are here to stay or going up further, tree ferns especially unfortunately BUT so many of these plants are affordable in smaller sizes and grow incredibly quickly. When it comes to palms, I’d honestly get some young Trachycarpus hybrids from Hardy Palms (well, I have!). What you lose in instant impact you’ll get as they mature into beautiful specimens for a fraction of the cost of a large fortunei. On the plus side, a lot of the big leaved plants are more widely available than ever. If I was starting out now I wouldn’t be able to afford the plants I currently have but the garden would still be filled out well within a few years with some style tweaks and use of fast growing filler plants.
