I don't know if anyone has ever mentored this to you but your voice and tone reminds me a lot of former radio DJ Kasey Kasem - pretty awesome!
Great video as well. Very honest and detailed.

Being a guy who grew up in the 50's, and having driven cars since 1968, I am a fan of chrome, as it is a nod to the past in automotive history. The key is to be happy with your vehicle, and if blackout does it for you, that's fine. I'm keeping my chrome on my Tesla, except for the door handles, (which are brushed black). BTW, that's a pretty good job you did with the chrome-delete kit.

  • @timwong2436

I installed the kit and found that the side cameras were tough, just like you. It is a good buy, especially because I found them on sale. I am going to probably redo the passenger side mirror, otherwise everything looks good. It takes a lot of patience, but in the end, it saved me tons of money. The shops are asking
    $1500.00 where I live.

Hi Mike, you did a great job with the tools/environment provided. I couldn't have done it anywhere near that neat. However I really don't understand the need to delete the chrome in this way. I'm pretty sure all the imperfections will bother me way more that the chrome.

Great video. I just bought and installed this kit. I agree some very small imperfections due to being diy but not something that people would see. We see it as the owners only. I highly recommend this product.

Would be interesting to see the cost of the OEM Tesla parts in black as a comparison - if they even sold them. If a professionally installed chrome delete costs upwards of $1,000, I’d give thought to just buying the OEM parts for slightly more.

i think the chrome delete on white with the black material looks great. Your car looks awesome now. I have a black 2018 model 3 mid range but for that car i think the chrome delete which would be black on black would be too much. I have a new 2021 red model 3 performance on order and I am excited it does come with the chrome delete from the factory. Thanks for the video, stay safe!

I’m about to do the chrome delete, I was on the fence at first, but seeing the, on the new model 3’s I like it. You could have Tesla do this install at service center by ordering the parts. It will run you about $1,000 just for the mirrors and window trim. The rest you can buy the caps for the side cameras and door handles, they look great!

  • @dietmarschmitt6362

I will stay on my chrome for sure. This is what bothers me on the 2021 M3. On black, midnight silver (what I have) and blue it is just much to dark now. In my opinion it looks a little cheap. Red is still ok but without the chrome only white would be the color if I would have to buy one now.
You did a good job, the rest is just preference as you already said.

I just ordered my LR model 3 just in that combo. There is nothing cheap looking about it. Chrome is not bad looking. I think they used to much for that size of vehicle. Can't wait for all the new things I'm going to get with my purchase.

I have been a 'you tube' mechanic since the 'ol car forum days (RIP) and I am used to the EDM/Flatbrim style of review and install videos. Is it just because I actually have an 'adult' car now..?

Just finished mine and wanted to see how you did. I think it was worth it but don't expect perfection. I think I did a slightly better job than you (no offense) based on where you showed your trouble-spots at the end, but going around corners on the mirrors will never look pristine. I think a third option would be to order the parts for above and below the windows (as well as the handles and cameras), but see if you can get a discount from a shop to just do the rearview mirrors.
I had to do piece 2 on the passenger rearview mirror twice and the driver side window bottom twice. It's okay to stretch the material so long as you are doing a long bit of it, I ripped a small section when pulling it.
    Great review!

Saw it done with vinyl on a black model 3 a few weeks back (Supercharger social club?)
When you are more than 10ft away it looks really great. Walk up to it though it loses its appeal, at least when done with vinyl.
Perhaps in the near future ordering non-chrome replacement trim pieces will be an option (assuming the refresh didn't change the dimensions of the doors)

    • @GregHassler

Hey FTG, a little off topic but do you have any advice or guidance on leaving the mobile charger plugged into the wall all the time? I do not do a lot of mileage daily so rely on charging from an ordinary 110v outlet in my garage. I only get 6 mph of charge but that’s normally enough to get me to 90% every morning. Currently, I unplug and then plug into the wall outlet whenever I charge but would like to leave the charger plugged in. What do you think?

    • @FrugalTeslaGuy

    • @johnfruh
      @johnfruh Před rokem

@@FrugalTeslaGuy Agreed. Repeated Plugging/unplugging is the problem. That may result in a loose connection in the outlet. Loose connections result in poor electrical conduction which leads to resistance which leads to heat (i.e. 🔥).
