"it was powered by maple syrup" Hey, that's a national secret! Get him!
FBI: Interesting...
Funny thing is that if you did concentrate it enough, the engines could absolutely run on maple syrup for a while if you could get a strong enough igniter.
Imagine a whole squadron of angry, maple thristy canadian pilots flying this thing... with hockey sticks.
Or lumberers. These are quite known in large number in those parts too.
Oh god
And those curling pucks as bombs.
and they constantly apologize after shooting down an enemy.
I can only imagine trying to explain to my CO why my Hockey stick was included as equipment essential for me completing missions on my plane haha.

@@adammanalo931 Yeah, the Ace Combat General thread on /vg/ designed the superplane in this game, the dev used to post in that thread a lot but he's been absent for a while after the design was finalized.
As a Canadian, I'm happy - no, ecstatic - that the Avro Arrow is getting the recognition it deserves.
I’m digging all the little nods to Ace Combat in this one “Ixiom”, and the pilot who does Yellow 13’s “Who was it that shot me.” line
Edit: A lot of radio chatter is from AC04. Not complaining though
its not from 4 but rerecording of lines from AC04 Project wingman would be in so much problem if they used the sound files from ace combat 4.
@@Zack_Wester I know it’s not literally from AC04, but the dialogue is line for line the same in several places. A re-recording as you said
im glad PW actually made our WSO have lines of dialogue and stuff, Prez is such a fun girl.
I know right I don't know why Project ACES never did that in the Ace Combat series and yeah she is a pretty fun girl
Oh man, I was worried it wouldn't have that Ace Combat style "high fantasy martial arts epic" storyline, but I'm sold. They've even got the mythological aspect, and now if there's a rival for the main character then they will have truly nailed it.
I'm gonna love using my VR home cockpit setup for DCS World here, too.

""Dammit, he's engaging me!""
Quick history for anyone that never or barely heard of this bird. The CF-105 was the product of the 1950s way of thinking. The idea was the creation of a pure interceptor to keep Canada safe from soviet bombers. For such reasons the idea was to make it fast and with a long endurace. Arming it with a powerful arsenal of long air-to-air missiles. But it ran into reality. Namely. The Soviet strategic bomber capabilities were not that massive to require an aircraft designed from the ground up to deal with them. ICBMs were starting to take over the role of nuclear delivery making such an interceptor craft even less relevant. So it was axed. It created much resentment and it is remembered fondly by the canadians since it was a well designed and advanced interceptor. But it simply could not do anything else but intercept. Just look at the cockpit design. Inadequate for a fighter.
It was a victim of history and excessive specialization. It would've been totally outdated by the mid 70s and with no role. Much like the plane selected instead, the CF-101 Vodoo. Except the Vodoo was probably cheaper as a program, to mantain and procure.
Money again is the main reason we dont get nice things.
There is a lot of speculation out there to what really led to the cancellation of the program but I'd prefer not to dive too deeply into that since speculation leaves too much room for feelings over facts.
Wow, thanks for the well needed info.
It was basically Canada's version of the US's XB-70. Incredibly engineered planes both killed by the ICBM.
@@johnnyboythepilot4098spot on
It's not a pure interceptor are you nuts. It was never supposed to be a pure interceptor. However interceptor was it's primary duty.
Interceptor bomber it's actual classification despite being a fighter as well.
Mark 3 version was planned also to be used for recon as well.
@@johnnyboythepilot4098sort of. It was always planned as a more multi purpose design then the American equivalent.
It's basically an interceptor that functions in other areas but only because of our Canadian method of engagement. And interceptor type fighter was it's foundation.
Pseudo bomber. They say real bomber but eh. But essentially strap bomb on extra tanks, and just speed in and dump on the enemy. Staggered strikes for continuous bombardment. With the fast turn around time on the arrow and enough of them. You can use it for a modernized version if walking artillery cover.
Fighter in the sense of air dominance not superiority. Get in and permanently ground their airforce when you can.
Icbm interceptor. Though this was doubted. The f16 scored a satellite kill and the arrow flies higher and faster and was going to get a really good for the time load out and they had plans to keep retrofitting it.
Recon. Not as stealth as an sr71. But early on wouldn't have needed to be and towards the end like the black bird the speed made it funny where you could just tell them where you were gonna spy and Russia could do nothing. The fast prep launch and other stuff would've made it hard for even america to counter some spying once they had the black bird.
Had it gotten proper use and the mark 3 even for Canada only launched. It would've been the 50s and 60s and maybe 70s f22 equivalent.
America was actually nervous of it. Especially once they found out the soviets had the entire copy of the plans. Soviets used it as the basis for the mig29.
But the mig was a bad copy reverse engineering attempt with what they could manage.
What I really hoped happened instead of the cancelation. Was it ended up a co development between America and Canada. And we got to see a USAF arrow series tweaked by you guys. The weapons systems would've been nuts and you guys woulda just worked on anything you could've made better with minor work.
Ironically despite the fear. Canada built it with a weird paranoid protect America mindset to avoid our own nuclear missile sandwich situation. It was supposed to be a shock and awe fear motivator for Russia not to consider a North america nuclear attack from the north. You guys scared them to back off Cuba.
But goal was essentially keep north america safe from nuclear strikes. Russia was fresh off fighting us at the tail end of ww2 beginning of the cold war for certain land. Was a bit terrified of us. And despite some things was generally more worried of us brutality wise then america but wad absolutely terrified of American technology. That 1 2 combo of both of us developing a platform would've essentially shut down the cold war faster. Cheap sr71 speed fighters bombers and interceptors. Bum rush to hold land before they get onto it vs recapturing it. Stall tactics and constant forwards tactics. Make em stall into a death wall line you don't cross. The spy advantages of mass serialized sr71 speed planes even for just Canada and maybe america....think of the tactical advantages. As well as the arrow being able to support the sr71 at speeds and altitudes nothing else could. It would've added years to the sr71 lifespan of usable peak military gear. Especially when you consider the arrow company was already working on vertical take off stuff way back then. We still had a decent navy then too. America had one of the best. A navy modified arrow. A navy version that basically works like a cheap blackbird that carries more weapons.
Short range ballistics now turn into long range essentially hypersonics back then. Dumb bombs almost become smart. Minot tweaks launch them during the boost stage right into a target from something traveling at Mach 2.5 plus.
Why I joke. World secretly decided Canada has to chill out and the arrow was just a war crime waiting to happen. Hence its demise. Some military experts did a examination in the early 2000s late 90s. Minor work and it would've been still among the best at the time. Think about the generational improvements.
But yeah. They had it designed as a multi role way bsck then but a primary duty and some expanded duties ad they increased range and speed. And added more weapons options.
I'd drink with Prez any day. I'd probably throw up my inner organs tho.
I'd throw myself at her if you catch my meaning

Ok, it's actually cool that they have added planes that Bandai Namco never thought to add In the AC series. The only thing that doesn't convince me in the game is that the enemies seem a little too passive...
There were more aggressive in the demo.
The thing is they only add planes that is pretty much popular or currently in service, technically making ACE series a one huge Ad space for fighter jets.
Not everyone has heard of Avro.

This mission is basically Siege of Silvat from Ace Combat 6.
You sir are a freaking legend for chosing this aircraft!
8:28: Yeah, so what? I don't even drink and like wine. I think of this as a well-needed win for the Prohibitionists.
I picked this up when I was in Air Cadets doing research for a presentation for the Areo, but another reason it was canceled was because if Canada were to develop, build, and operate it's own aircraft, it would harm US-Canada relations, as until then Canada was using American built aircraft.
We used CF100s at the time tho
Yeah, the US government was not too happy Canada had a plane that could compete against their own. Still, what a shame this aircraft was dismantled. I would recommend going to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum to see the remains. Plus, this museum is awesome all around and full of great aviation history (I went 4 times in 6 years).

They need to add Long range standoff missiles to the Arrow (both Air to air and Air to ground), it's fighting doctrine was Zoom and Boom. Basically speed around to the enemy tail and then launch missiles and RUN

Hey Ace, not to be nitpicky or corrective too much but the Arrow in fact never got to use the Orenda Iroquois Engines. It Reached Mach 2 with the much weaker Pratt and Whitney J75 Turbojets, so it could have been leagues faster than it was initially projected to be! It was definitely an incredible aircraft and I think that we as Canadians should very well be proud of it. who knows, it might have been able to chase down Mig 25's or even an SR71 If we had developed it enough.
I wish for the day we decide to make our own planes again instead of sourcing them from other countries because we probably could make another arrow. Excellent Gameplay By the way, cheers!

wait wait wait WAIT A MINUTE!!! THE CF 105 IS IN PROJECT WINGMAN?!!!
The Arrow was, basically, the Yamato of interceptors. By the time that it was out of the initial development stages, AAMs were being widely introduced, something that the Arrow couldn't cope with.
Actually, not really. Arrow was intended from the outset to be armed with air-to-air missile. So, instead of being made obsolete by missiles, it was designed to take advantage of it. Initial launch speed and altitude factors into a missile's performance - most notably, range. The faster and higher the launching aircraft is, the greater the distance the missile can cover - exactly what Arrow's entire design is devoted to. Climb fast, fly fast, fly high, launch missile, and go home.
@@2205Razors last I've checked, the Arrow wasn't going to have missiles until well into its development. The original design was to use AAR (Anti-Air Rockets) instead of missiles from what I've heard.
@@TheTrueAdept I stand corrected at my statement that it was "intended from the outset to be armed with AAM". Yes, Arrow's originally intended armament was the AIR-2 Genie nuclear rocket, with the hope to make it compatible with AIM-4 Falcon came later with the Mark 2 variant - which was completed but never flew due to the project's termination.
Still, I see no reason why Arrow cannot be easily adapted to be an AAM missile truck. It had enough space in the hull for incremental upgrades for its avionics and fire-control. Design-wise, many contemporary interceptors adapted similar approach of going fast and high - MiG-25 and EE Lightning came to mind. Ultimately, I still think that it was not obsolescence that killed the Arrow. It was politics.
@@2205Razors while politics came into play, the other reasons included very limited upgrade capability (remember, almost all the '50s designs were quickly sent to the scrap heap the moment things like the F-4s and F-111s came into the picture), the rapid shift from bomber-based nukes to missile-based systems that happened during the late '50s and early '60s, and the rise of digitalization (surprisingly enough, this killed last problem killed a lot of programs in the long run during this period, including the Cheyenne attack helicopter). At least from what I've read and been told.
@@TheTrueAdept Fair enough. Even then, I still think that it was too early to judge whether Arrow was truly a "Yamato" in a sense that it was a design dead-end considering that there were '50s designs that survived to this day. MiG-31 shares similar design approach as MiG-25, which I think also had similar approach with Arrow - but, I will leave it at that. Good discussion :)
Also, funny that you mentioned Cheyenne. While the cause of its demise could be many things, one that stuck most with me is the political bickering between the US Army and the USAF - the Key West Agreement (basically, the USAF thought that by acquiring the Cheyenne, the Army would overstep the Air Force's mission of providing CAS for the Army), but that is a discussion better saved for another day. :)
