Dr. Twerski was my neighbor in Pittsburgh, living across the street. From any perspective, he was a remarkable person.

Grew up in pgh yet met Rabbi T in his Monsey home in 1998 when building project to help adhd kids with eeg Neurofeedback. He wrote me a letter emphasizing the importance of this modality for helping kids. Generation to generation about his illustrious family is a book everyone needs to read and absorb. No one can capture the greatness he radiated. I regret not having followed him around to learn his clinical manner from him. He was a man for all humanity to learn from and being Rebbishe frum and a Gaon (hear Rav beryl Weil’s heaped). Because he was Holy his impact should be far greater than Jordan Peterson on the entire world.

He write a story in how to get up when u r down about how he experienced depression as a side effect from an antihistamine he needed to take and he wrote that he was so grateful that he experienced depression because this gave him a way to have firsthand understanding of the suffering of his clients. I think he added that otherwise he could not grasp their struggle and that he needed this to be able to connect with their struggle and help them.

Sadly in most respects he had no understanding of what goes on in the trenches because his whole life he didn't really mingle with others in the trenches being so exotic.

Part 2: and now that I am older of course it wasn't becuase I had "low self esteem" my parents for various reasons used me the scapegoat and I was an easy target. In one exchange a Rabbi wrote to Rabbi Twerski that he want from job to job as Rabbi and every job he ended up having problems with the board. Rabbi Twerski's response of course that somehow he was projecting "low self esteem". Of course shuls blaming the Rabbi may not be the Rabbis fault. So again Rabbi Twerskis response could lead to violence as they have to show the other person they don't have low self esteem. It is absurd.

I have a negative view of Rabbi Abraham Twerski. He has plenty of family to defend him. When I was 20 years old I bought his book I am I. I had serious family problems. His solution to every problem was "low self esteem" and he blamed the victim because they had low self esteem and it made me think I had to act like a machir because my parents always picked on me.
