I hate the phrase “ you’re too young to get arthritis “ RA is an autoimmune disease . it’s frustrating to always explain. I’ve had RA for 16 years and I’m 27 it’s comforting to know there are others 💖🥰Thank you for sharing.

Joyce Kapia I’m about to be diagnosed with either RA or reactive arthritis, which is the same essentially. I am so scared. I’m scared I won’t be able to have kids because of the meds, I’m scared I won’t be able to play sports again. Any advice? I want to be active, have a family, and drink a beer like everyone else.

@@edwinlangley7693 Hey Edwin, if it's ReA, it'll go away. Whatever happened to me is starting to subside, but the recovery after the fact is crazy. It'll take me a long time to get everything back together again. One of my big toes is permanently arthritic, two sprained ankles, sprains all throughout my body, really... BUT, even if you and I have RA, treatment will keep it at bay. Stay strong.

@@ash-qs7jk I started taking Prednisone, which was rough. My hair started falling out I was nauseous all the time and now I can't drink beer anymore because it makes me feel awful. But, the pain went away almost instantly. Weaning off the Prednisone was a tough time as well but now I am taking leflunamide and I haven't experienced any side effects and the pain is completely gone. Only when the weather changes do I actually feel any joint pain. All that said, if you don't have health insurance or access to affordable medication you're going to be paying a lot. Before I was able to get on Prednisone I used Kratom, which is a natural opioid. That helped with the pain immensely. Before taking it I tried playing basketball but I could barely move, after taking Kratom for a few days I could run around for like 10 minutes without feeling pains.

I felt into a severe depression, lost a lot of weight, among other things. Luckily I have always had the unconditional support of my family. This disease has taught me to appreciate the little things in life and also the important like my relationship with God. I was diagnosed with RA a year ago at 27. I was alway in pain but doctors always thought it was something else till the pain was unbearable to where walking and going up a stair was painful. Unfortunately I was going through separation at the time. When I told my exwife she thought and still does that I made shit up even after she knew I was alway in pain driving the car . A week later I ended up living in my car for a month. At work I was working overnights at a pipe coating company 12 hour day . I would stay late after work waiting for Everyone to leave so I could use the restroom sink to take a bird bath I then got let go because i couldn’t stay up anymore and my pain was not helping.
Fast forward a year I lost 28 pounds started running up mountain trails( same guys who couldn’t jump an a trampoline with my 5 year old and 2 year old .. I hitting the weights covid didn’t stop me from losing the weight and turning plant base I can say I feel healthier than I did in the past 10 years .. over all I can finally run around with my baby’s and yes I can get on that trampoline now with them. Yes The pain is there almost all the time. But I learned to take control of it along with my life .. I got out of my financial situation . I do personal training and try to help ppl break out of that shell of felling worthless.
life doesn’t happen to you it happens for you.
So keep your head up proudly and know your worth the fight.. take care everyone.

Love the video. I’m 28 and I was diagnosed with ra on March 20 2024. My birthday is dec 13. So when I first started getting pain in January of 2024 it started off with my jaw, then hands, then shoulder, then ankles. It really impacted my life. Had to call out of work, not eat, no gym. Was prediabetic cause my body was so under stress from the pain. I started to get depressed and say “why me”, “what did I do wrong”. Coincidentally pain started happening right after my 28th birthday so I was linking the cause to me getting old……but with the help of my rhumetology and your video, it help me get back to my regular. Just hearing there was young people like me who also have ra made slightly happy. Just to able to relate to others made not blame myself. So hearing your story and many others help me recover my mental state. I currently have little to no pain and working with my rhumetology in order to not let the disease take over my life. Just wanted to share my story to you and any other people who read this and thank you for sharing your story and personally help me from my lowest point of my life. Love from the U.S❤

I have to push myself to get through the day...sometimes it feels like you literally fall apart into 1000000 pieces and nobody knows and understands because it is not showing on the outside. I still need to support myself as I am alone...dark future because there is no cure....depression is also something you have to deal with because of the pain...

I recently had to have emergency surgery due to RA & was in hospital then to a Rehabilitation Facility to learn to walk on my leg again ( I couldn't move it after surgery) . I just had my last home care therapy and they want to see if going in clinic will help more strengthening & bend my knee. ( been home for a mth now , walk with a walker & have to use a wheelchair because I can't go to far due to the pain from the surgery but also with my overall health. I once had no mobility on my arm it felt like dead weight & trying to use it was horribly painful. I can go on. Im glad you listened to your body & kept pushing to get an answer. I was 28 and half years old when I started with pain in my fingers. At first I was diagnostic with tendinitis and started to to take ibuprofen 200mg. Then I started to feel pain in my feet. I had to walked with the edges of my feet and doctor send me ibuprofen 400mg. Then pain continue in my hips, elbows, shoulders, wrists and jaw. I couldn’t even eat because I couldn’t open my mouth. I started to take ibuprofen 600mg. I was in severe pain for seven days and one day I couldn’t even get up from bed I got fever so I went to the rheumatology got a blood test and they told me I have rheumatic arthritis. I am 33 years old now and there hasn’t been one day without pain. Even with the medication. Most days I’m just too exhausted and don’t want to get out of bed.
I so appreciate you for sharing your story. I felt so alone the first years with this disease specially because people around me didn’t (still don’t) understand the pain I feel. Now and days I just put on a happy face and keep going..some days are ok some days are simply terrible.

Hi! I get you 100%. I got diagnosed at 20, I am now 30 with a bad flare up for about a year and a half now. I understand your state of mind regarding the pain and frustration, it totally does help to know there are others living like we are. Regarding the medication, I have taken most DMARDs out there (haven't gone into biological meds yet) and they can all work, but only to a certain degree and for a certain time. What really helps on the long run is a lifestyle adjustment; exercising (pilates and swimming do wonders with no impact to the joints) and a non inflammatory diet are the things that have improved my pain. I know the automatic reaction we may have to feeling limited is a bit of denial and desire to refuse to change our lives around RA, but in my case coming to terms with this condition (by working around it and knowing what triggers and aliviates it) has been so good for my mental health. We are not defined by it :)

@@enigm8530 Hello, I'm so sorry it took me a whole year to see this comment. If it's any help now, an anti-inflammatory diet consists in avoiding food that triggers inflammatory responses in the organism. You can find many regimes online by googling 'anti-inflammatory diets'. In general, they exclude animal products, specially red meat, pork, and dairy. Chicken and fish can also produce inflammation in the body, but in lower levels than the ones I mentioned. Highly processed foods are also highly inflammatory, so it's best to remove them from everyday meals. These include junk food, fast food and any food that's very rich in sugars. For some people, products with wheat (and you guessed it, gluten), can be inflammatory. Lastly, some vegetables can also trigger this response in the body, like nightshades and tomatoes, for example. In my experience, the key to succeed in finding what suits each RA patient best is trial and error. After a while, I figured I can have cheese once in a while in moderation, but cannot consume any pork whatsoever, for example. I hope this is useful somehow for your husband and others, I wish you guys the best :)

As someone who has lived with RA since their 20’s (now 57) ii can sympathise and empathise with you whole heartedly. If I can give you any advice it would be to be very kind to yourself. As you said despite having support it is a lonely journey and you need to be your own advocate. Knowledge is power and you are doing a great job. I wish you well and hopefully with more research there will be even more relief available to you.

I’m not sure how it is in the UK but here in the US it takes 2-3 months to get an Initial appointment with a Rheumatologist- so you’re living in pain untreated. Because of the pain and fatigue, I had to quit my job and completely change my lifestyle. Ive been struggling. I have support but as you said- they’ll never really understand. All tests came back normal, in the end I demanded to see a rheumatologist after about 5 more GP appointments of being ignored and low and behold, they knew I had arthritis right away. I started with palindromic arthritis but it went to full blown RA about 2 years ago. I'm 7 years in and the drugs I've been on so far are Hydroxychloroquine, Sulphalazine, Methotrexate, Adalimumab, Infleximab and now just about to start a new treatment which I have yet to make a decision on as I've literally just got back from seeing my consultant and was researching medication videos when this popped up! Just want to say hi to another young arthritis sufferer. Arthritis has really made a mess of my life and has taken a lot from me.

Thx for sharing your story! I was diagnosed with JRA which stands for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis because I was diagnosed at 15 months old and I just turned 44 years old. So I’ve pretty much had it my entire life. I started having problems early on in life and when my parents started taking me to the docs they didn’t know what was wrong with me and arthritis was definitely not on the docs radar because like you had mentioned...arthritis was an old person disease. At that point docs put me on prednisone which did wonders from what my parents told me. It’s a drug with a lot of bad side effects but at that time very little was known about arthritis in children...JRA...that my doc only knew prednisone was the best drug at the time that would probably help me and the pros about taking this drug would outweigh the cons. I’ve taken this med my entire life along with others over the years. Finally, long story short, JRA was the diagnosis for me at 15 months old and continues to be called JRA as an adult because it is a little different than being diagnosed as an adult. Everything you said in your video is very relatable and for the past 5 years my JRA has gotten really bad. I’m not saying that’s gonna happen to you. A lot more is known about arthritis in young people now than it was when I was diagnosed and there’s a lot more better known drugs you can take. You and your doc will just have to find what works best for you. It may take a little time to find the right combo for your body...it will be trial and error. Being twice as old as everyone else on here and with more life experiences I would say is to take one day at a time. I’ve live a very independent life up until about 38 years old. I was married at age 24, had my first baby girl at age 27, then had my son at age 29, and then divorced at age 30. I lived as a single mother, on my own with my two kids until my JRA got so bad I had to move in with my father with my two kids to get extra help. My daughter is 17 years old and my son is 14 years old. I’m so thankful to have my father who helps me daily. I also have my siblings and their wives who regularly help me but like you mentioned in your video...no one really understands what you go through. What I really want to make sure and tell you is to be patient with yourself and try not to stress because I personally believe that it will affect your health, also pay attention to what you eat because that can also flare you. Like maybe do a process of elimination by keeping a food journal. Those are some of the things I wish someone could of told me and back then there was no technology that I can use to do research or find others with similar stories so I’m hoping that me sharing just a little of my story would help you. Stay positive, don’t stress, and keep researching!!

Listening to your story has helped me so much. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis the end of 2018 and I’m 17 years old. I was depressed recently and just watching your video has helped me so much. I feel your pain cause I could never walk. My knees couldn’t bend, my fingers are swollen and it would hurt so much. I feel your pain so much and sometimes I forget but I just needed to watch with someone about others stories and how they cope. I take prednisone, folic acid, hydroxychloroquine and xeljan. I’ve been doing joint injections every half a year or so. I used to take Humira and Orencia but they would never work. Chemo therapy was optional but because I was only 16, I couldn’t do it where I live. They tried to put me on methotrexate but I have liver problems and I’m kind of overweight for my age so i would need to work on it.

  • @akira_ariga

I’m 30 and was suddenly hit with pain in every joint at the beginning of the year. I was really confused. I knew I had chronic back pains, but this was different, and I had no idea what was happening.
Spending more than an hour to commute to work was killing me, and having a job that required me to be constantly lifting, twisting and standing/walking felt like hell when I was limping the entire time. It was especially bad in my particular case since in order to get to my 7am shift, I had to wake up at 4am, but after the ra hit, I needed more than an hour to see if maybe the pain would subside, and it just wasn’t going well with work.
It got worse to the point where I couldn’t even change clothes on my own, because even a shirt was too heavy for me. Then my jaw got affected so much that I often couldn’t eat. I became unable to really take care of myself, and it frustrated me.
When I finally went to some doctors, they were taken aback by how much difficulty I had with walking, considering my age. They all kept saying it looked like I had lupus, and I was like I don’t think so but it still sounds scary wth man
I’m finally on medication, but even with that, I’m struggling to stay awake due to fatigue, and most of the problems I’ve been having, remain. The only way I can get exercise right now without feeling like death is by being in bed and slowly flailing around. Honestly though, the one main thing I’m worried about now is employment.

I’m grateful to have found this video, I’ve been having everything you just mentioned (the pain is 😓 ) currently waiting for testing confirmation, I just turned 30 and have heard from most doctors that I’m too young to have Arthritis. A kind nurse was helping me understand this possible diagnosed and referred me to holistic practices (which I trust). Thank you for posting this ✨ sending you all the healing energy ✨

Thank you so much for sharing you story! I feel like it is so hard to find information and community with other young people who suffer from this. I got diagnosed with RA today (I'm 24) but I suffered from the symptoms since freshmen year of college (I had to move home and transfer to a university in my home town) and after going to every specialist known to man for 7 years, I've finally got an answer to my "mystery symptoms." I'm starting prednisone (short term), methotrexate, and folic acid so I'm praying that I will FINALLY feel some relief from these problems that I've had for years. I'm praying for you and your journey with this as well. Prayers and positive thoughts...

I was diagnosed at 34 and can totally relate. A lot of people don't realize it's a auto immune disease. I feel also it's hard for loved ones to understand because you don't really look sick/disabled so it can be hard for them to understand, I'm also on Methotrexate along with a few others. I also have fibromyalgia and neuropathy. It's been a real roller coaster Trying to find my limit and not over doing it with daily activities or I crash because the fatigue is horrible! Stay strong fellow R.A patient's!!! Gob bless!!!

I can relate to you 100% . I am 24 and I've had arthritis since I was in middle school. Very painful and definitely very upsetting when you can't even get up and do your daily tasks specially having a child and sometimes the pain won't even let you carry your child when he/she is sick. No one understands the pain we go through specially at night time. Feels good to know there is people out there that understand thank you for sharing ! 💓

Hi Jessica, I am 28 and I was diagnosed with RA in February of this year. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It helps to know that I am not alone in what I am going through, and it helps to hear from someone my age. I hope that you have finally gotten the relief you deserve from your medications!

Thank you for sharing this. It means so much to know I'm not alone in what I've been going through. I'm 32 years old and I've recently been diagnosed with RA. I was told by my rheumatologist that I am young, healthy and active but despite all of that.. it can come up at any time and cause your life to change completely. I am about to start treatment (Methotrexate injection) but am worried about how it's going to affect me and if it'll help.. What you said about the pain is 100% what I've been feeling myself. Some days I feel good but when I get flare ups they can last for days and days and I feel pain all over and can't even open a bottle of water or wash my hair. The struggle is real!!!!

Thank you for the video. I was diagnosed at 3, my RA was very active (in knees and ankles) as a young child and teenager but was in remission in my 20s. Now in my mid-30s it seems to be activating again. It’s luckily quite a mild version of RA, I don’t live with daily pain.

I’m 39 and got diagnosed at 32. I can’t believe you are so young and have this illness. 😞 It’s very inspiring to see someone so open about this illnesses. Living with pain is very frustrating. The only thing you can do is manage your attitude. I wish all of us with RA could have a group hug. 💕 💕💕

I hear you and can truly emphasize, I have Lupus which shows up as 'inflammatory arthritis'. They also started me on methotrexate which I failed, then leflunomide which I also failed. Now. I am on Imuran which has brought a lot of my inflammation down to where I don’t have to take steroids anymore.
Doctors can be so frustrating, especially males. They like to pat us on the head like we are stupid and scoot us out the door. It is hard, I understand.

I’ve been having pain on both my knees and both my hands elbows for a year and a half and today I got diagnosed with arthritis I am 29yrs old. I just wanted to say thank you very much I’ve been overwhelmed and depressed because I have had to tweak the way I do things before I was very energetic and I will do a lot of things but I would also have to pretend that I wasn’t in pain because people will think that I was being dramatic when I couldn’t open a jar or brush my teeth but now that I got diagnosed and I saw your video I cried because at least someone understands and hearing it from someone else it is helpful and I don’t feel alone. Thank you! Have a great day!
