My son learnt to read with Alpha phonics, we srtarted when he was 3 1/2 and he’s almost 5 now. He reads beautifully, he’s my fourth child whom I taught to read and write well before the age of age 5. Honestly, simple is the key! All you need is the Alpha Phonics work book, if you follow the teacher lesson guide at the back it provides such simple instructions for each lesson, and then it’s just plenty of books once you have finished the programme. We didn’t introduce much before we reached the end and now he reads amazing and writes so well sounding out words with diagraphs. We are now on the 3rd time reading through Alpha Phonics to concrete it just two a day as he understands it and it’s no problem and just plenty of reading and an exercise book for copy , creative and dictation using alpha phonics to structure it x

Welcome to homeschooling! Great curriculum choices! We loved mind benders when my kids were younger. Wow Bob workbooks weren’t available 5 years ago😢My kids are 3rd grade, middle school and a dual enrollment high schooler.
    Have a great year!🙏🏾

👍 on the curriculum choices. Seeing the multiple resources you selected for kindergarten reading, it seems like you have learned something about teaching a child to read. I would love to hear more about that. Thanks for sharing.

Hey fellow Catholic mom! My daughter isn't K age yet, but we've always planned to homeschool. I recognize some things in here that we will be using when she gets there!

How much did you spend for both children? This will be my first time homeschooling. I’m just trying to figure out numbers on sets or individual items like this.

I would say, for the whole year about $500 on each child. I say this with the disclaimer that it's my first year, I had NOTHING to start so I did include in that budget some encyclopedias and resources that I will use with more than one child and throughout multiple grades. But $500 per child is a reasonable budget.

You can do it a lot cheaper. This is a crazy amount of curriculum.

If you are Catholic, I’d recommend The Story of Civilization instead of The Story of the World

Yes! I found out about it after I had purchased the Story of the World. Next year I’ll use Story of Civilization
