    Hearing Soo-Won talking about how she wanted to be a mother to the Elder Dragons and how she's the mother of dead children now was the saddest thing for me. It, for the first time, truly made me think if there really wasn't another way. Hearing how Primordus used to curl up against her tail just paints such a cute scene, now they're all dead.

      I have seen her final scene a dozen times by now, and it is just so damn powerful. We've lost good characters before, but never a character that made you feel like they took all the goodness with them. I mean seriously. We were getting together in Arborstone afterwards to celebrate our victory, the credits are rolling... and the music in the credits says it all. "Can we go on without you?" Kralkatorrik's death was sad, but you could celebrate the win and look forward to what was next. Soo-Won's death just leaves you feeling... hollowed out. The victory is there, but it almost doesn't feel worth anything. Yay! We won! World saved! But... for who? What's the point of saving a world without her in it? IS there even a world without her? The fact that they can do this to you with a character you just met that season and have no history with is truly astonishing. Brava, ArenaNet! I am very interested to see where you take us from here. I love this game more now than ever before, but good grief do you make it hard to go back to doing events and grinding legendaries after that beautiful anihilation you just subjected my heart to.

    EoD finally gave me what I've been asking for: answers. A new perspective on things we already knew. Certain people think that combining the Elder Dragons' "mother" with the deep-sea dragon and making her the creation god of Tyria was a cop-out. I couldn't disagree more. There could be nothing more fitting than to have the actual literal god of Tyria be an Elder Dragon. It finally explains why the dragons are so integrated with the world, it explains why they're so prominent in depictions of The All. All things I've openly wondered about, all things that finally got answered, and I only had to wait for it!
    I'm sad their stories ended here. After Zhaitan and the whole "Elder Dragons are nothing more than natural disasters," Mordremoth showed us that the Elder Dragons can speak. Kralkatorrik showed us that they can feel. Jormag taught us that they can scheme. Soo-Won showed us that they can care. All things that they passed on to Aurene.

    And just like that ArenaNet is redeemed for the Icebrood Saga tenfold in my eyes. This entire expansion was incredible and I loved every moment of it. The story of the Elder Dragons and Soo-Won is so tragic, and so well written. Looking back, parenthood has been a theme of the story for so so long, from all the way back in Season 2 (and even before that) with Eir and Braham, the Pale Tree and all Sylvari, Mordremoth being a the origin of all Sylvari in Heart of Thorns, to the Commander and Caithe and Aurene in Living World Season 3, Kralkatorrik and Glint from as far back as Guild Wars 1 and Edge of Destiny, and then Crecia, Rytlock and Ryland in the Icebrood Saga, all ending where it began, Soo-Won and the Elder Dragons. And she said it best, "We have so little control over what our children become."

    Poor Soo-Won. She loved her children, she cared for them, but was helpless to prevent them turning into the destructive monsters they became. And the mental image of a baby Primordus hiding within her coils! Even Kralk brining back a gift of food every night to his mother. And then they all just drifted away, drifted apart, and became indifferent to mortal lives and destroyed all in the paths of their own desires. Dang it! T_T

    • @michram
      @michram  Před rokem +6

      No, because Aurene is the Prismatic Dragon, which means she does not need to fracture herself.
      Soo-Won was not a Prismatic Dragon, she was a Water attuned being and then she formed other beings we know as Elder Dragons out of chaotic elements of nature.
      Aurene will be the only Dragon now, and all she has to do is let the cycle go on. Until someday something else causes the Void to appear, but Aurene will not make the same thing Soo-Won did, because she physically cannot.
      Aurene's children are Mortals.

    I wonder what happened to the six gods? Is there any relation?, seems like six elder dragon and also coincidences with same numbers six gods of human. Is there any possibility for the six gods that left the Tyria will return as the world seems in peace? Probably the answer in GW3. So far I just met Kormir, Balthazar and Grenth, Abaddon too.

    • @michram
      @michram  Před rokem +4

      My understanding is...
      We know there's another world. There is Tyria and the Mists that are tied together and were created by Soo-Won, but humanity came from somewhere else, a world beyond the Mists.
      Maybe they work like parallel worlds, each world has a creator, but the histories are much different and lands developed differently.
      What ties the worlds together are the natural elements of the nature. That's why the beings such as the Gods share a piece of creation.
      But the parallel world's magic isn't exactly the same and while on Tyria Soo-Won decided to give each of her children something to handle to create a counterbalance to the Void, she turned them into mindless beings.
      In the parallel world it seems to be that Gods were meant to be highly aware and could work together.
      They colonialized the Mists, and tried to colonialize Tyria with humans, yet they quickly found out that their magics are different from the Dragons' and over time they preferred to first stay in the Mists, but when Balthazar went rogue, they returned to "a new garden", which may mean that their world is perhaps at the beginning of renewal.
      I would speculate that the Gods left their world with their favorite race, because the Void won at some point, and now they may be trying to restore it back to order.

    • @920516675079
      @920516675079 Před rokem +3

      @@michram wow thank you so much, you were right, since Abaddon’s magic at the first place corrupted the whole magic in tyria.
      One mystery still remains, the six gods capable to kill the elder dragons, but they said, they will end up to destroy both tyria and mist. Why they didn’t bring back all the human to the original world?. What’s really happened to the original world at the first place, that they try to involve themselves with others world?
      And somehow the gods, human and dragons kinda capable to absorb or steal each others magic 🤔.

    • @kjarllan7097
      @kjarllan7097 Před rokem

      Dragons and Gods didn't have any relations. We still know almost nothing about the gods. They came from an other world, they bring humans from an other world too (maybe from their world). they provided Blood Stone magic to humans.
      And they learned of the existence of the ancestral dragons who slept (they arrived after the last awakening of the dragons). But they didn't worry about it at that time.
      It's when Abaddon got rogue and he was killed that things got bad.
      Upon dying some of his magic was absorbed by Kormir. But the other part is found loose in nature and it is this surplus which triggered the beginning of a new cycle of awakening of the Dragons (especially since Abaddon coming from another world his magic is "too much "in this world).
      the gods have calculated their chances of defeating the dragons and have arrived at three possibilities:
      1 the dragons hunt them (because the gods are the greatest source of magic in the world) and kill them.
      2 the dragons hunt them, but it is the gods who kill them.
      3 the gods start from the world and therefore there is no conflict between them.
      first option: the gods are dead (so they are not too hot just for that) and the dragons become worse (since having absorbed magic not native to this world) and the world will be radically transformed into something else.
      Second option: the dragons dead, Tyria is destroyed. So the gods at best manage to leave, at worst die.
      and third option, the gods are gone and Tyria undergoes a new cycle of the Dragons which is only temporary (and that the species can cross). And with luck, the new species will find something against the dragons. (what happened).
      So the best choice was the third. except for the God of War who wanted to fight because it's in his nature. the other gods therefore had to imprison him in the mists.
      But so now that the Dragons are dead and have been replaced by a lasting and peaceful solution. The gods are likely to return.
      and otherwise you forgot to mention other gods that we meet: Dhuum. The ancient god of Death.

    Excelente video. In my opinion, this end of the arc of the elder dragons was mediocre and a quick way to get out of this story. I honestly would have preferred them to leave Jormag and Primordious alive for future installments, such as they did with Lazaruz, Palawa joko or the Flame Legion.
    Then the fact that Soo Wong is the mother of all dragons seems silly to me, it would have been better for the dragons to remain as primal forces of nature and for the 6 to suggest the void and not as they put it here as if they were a dysfunctional family.
    Finally, this game has the same problems with what is the way of telling a story, many subplots that do not lead to anything like that of Minister Li or the idiocy of bureaucratic procedures.
    The only positives are the maps and the music that I also liked, the mechanics of fishing is interesting.

    • @michram
      @michram  Před 2 lety +3

      I wholeheartedly agree with you, but it's the Western story, you can't really expect it to be anything original, the storytelling of EoD was amazing, rarely to see a coherent story in a game. But don't expect something genius out of it. I rather want to watch cdramas for a good story and storytelling.
      I also agree with Li story involvement, the whole political thing was really mediocre, but probably because the Saga was all about politics, so probably they didn't want to make another interesting arc about it, just basically created this character to be a villain.
      I honestly really enjoy the voice acting of Soo-Won, but I have known she is a mother ever since War Eternal, when we hear Kralk saying "Mother", it wasn't a last minute decision, they already planned it.
      Think about it more, if you want, perhaps you will understand why Soo-Won is the Mother.
      But I am 100% with you on this, thank you for this comment 😁
