Officer Edwards (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) interrogate Jeebs, an alien shop owner, about the sale of illegal weapons. Agent K then neuralyzes officer Edwards to make him forget about the encounter, but leaves him a card to find the Men In Black Agency and see if he can qualify.

Sometimes they rock, if you’re living in the Marvel Universe or the Men of Black Universe. But, if you’re living in the DC Universe or the Terminator Universe, you’re screwed no matter what.
Technically, K did not know J as a kid in the first movie because the events that changed history had not yet happened. MiB 3 altered the timeline when J went back in time.

well he’s kind of cock-eyed, which might be the confusion here. Right eye looks mostly down, and the left eye seems skewed outward, but it’s the more mobile one both before and after his head explodes

They explain later that neutralizers only work on a limited time scale. Maybe one with enough power could erase a full day, but that would require a lot of energy. If he didn't neuralize J here and J *didn't* make it through MiB testing, J would probably still remember the Celphapoid encounter.

The shot of the tandem bike is the sort of thing that sets this movie apart from a lot of other big blockbusters. Doesn't advance the plot but sets the mood perfectly.

I like how he says "...or I'm gonna shoot you where it don't grow back" like it's just a normal tough-guy line for the world he lives in.
When he says he will shoot him where it don’t grow back, it’s an innuendo.
Love the timing on Agent J on that plasma blast and reacting immediately like a police officer.
I like that even though J's been neuralized, he still knows something's happened
i am a fan of the quality of acting in this scene, the sounds, the expressions, the dialogue. Piece of a class.

So a man and a woman decided to take in a movie one night, and it just so happens that on that same night a farmer has decided to sneak in one of his roosters from his farm. After getting their snacks the couple head into the darkened auditorium, which is nearly full. there are only two seats left, and they happen to be next to the farmer and the rooster which he has concealed in his pants. Midway through the movie the rooster pokes his head out of the farmer's zipper and begins to peck and eat the woman's popcorn, she notices and nudges her husband; "Honey, look what this guy's cock is doing!" Her husband replies; "Ah, don't pay it no mind, if you've seen one you've seen 'em all!" So she looks over at her husband and says; " Yeah, but Honey this one's eating my popcorn!'

@ivanus it wasn't poor writing. K was on the job well past his intended retirement. Add that to his eventual dysfunctional relationship with J, and of course he's going to lose that personality and be more crabby. It's not poor writing because their dynamic changed over time 😂

Sometimes I forget that J has no memory of him running down an alien and his actual first meeting with K and Jeebs.
I suppose he could have used the Deneuralyzer at some point, but I get the sense K never informed him in the sequels that his memories of the first meeting weren't entirely accurate.

J was just a prospective recruit. The interview scene is where he’s finally selected to join MiB. He was neuralyzed here so he wouldn’t be able to tell anyone of what he saw of the Cephalopoid or Jeebs

Almost everything K does for James here is a test.
@V-Rex explains most of it, but something that just impressed me after watching the clip is AFTER James gets Neuralized.
Getting Neuralized more often than not makes people susceptible to suggestion and makes the recipient not question what was suggested.
James after being Neuralized does go along with the suggestion, but almost a few seconds afterward he questions K on who K really is.

FYI, Tony Shaloub (Jeebs & Monk) played a fantastic recurring character on the TV comedy series Wings long before Monk or Men In Black came along.
Fans of the Jeebs or Monk characters should check him out on Wings too. It's a great series!

I like to think K is rewiping him while they’re at dinner. Asking questions and getting more info. Then wipes the interview so he comes in unprepared and not tipped off till he’s ready to join. Just my theory
The scene is even darker and humorous in the novelization. His car has a anti theft device that vaporizes anyone that tries to force the lock. This entire time he is musing the neighborhood is getting safer the more time he spends inside the store
