Nice review. Thanks for sharing. I have 6 and really like them for the price. Fortunately, mine came with manuals. Not too much use but it did provide the channel info. I've learned a few things working with these. One thing, if you need to adjust the alignment of things (pan, tilt, color wheel, gobo, etc.), hold down the "Enter" button (with "addr" showing) for a few seconds and it will open up a hidden menu. You can align: Pan, Tile, Color (especially the split colors), Gobo, Focus. There's another one but I haven't found what it adjusts. This comes in handy when using multiple units. Note: These are the units being sold in the US. Not sure if there would be any differences for this in other countries.
Thanks - I bought a ZQ02021 unit to try out, but i returned it due to laggy / odd behaviour on the pan/tilt. See video here czcams.com/video/oiPV7fzL1l4/video.html - Are you able to confirm if these units are free from this issue? This is trying small quick movements on the pan channel. Some other nice features I think the 2011 unit has vs the 2021 is support for half colours (2021 does not) and electronic focus? Thanks
@@richienorthcott Hello, I just recieved 4 of these units, and they all act the the same way as in your video. It's like their move speed is proportionnal to the size of the step you are asking them to make, instead of going directly to the requested value as any regular moving head... Because of this issue, making them move in a clean circular motion is impossible, but I can make them do a nice tilt flyout. Also, the Led of one of these units doesn't light up at all, which is pretty deceiving. Oh and of course their dimmer curve is atrocious, you can see the step of the dimmer in the low end of the curve, but this is normal for the price. What a shame, if only they didn't have this movement issue it would have been an outstanding low budget solution.
@@Distorful Agree - the hardware is really good for the money, but the firmware is awful. To clarify - did you buy 4 of the new units (02021) or the original one this video is actually about (02011) which I think are still available? I binned off the idea of adding additional movers to my Christmas show this year. they're really not usable with other 'normal moving head units. Even ones from the same manufacturer!
@@richienorthcott I bought 4 of the original one (zq02011), they were on sale at 85 euros per unit (now I understand why). I'm still hesitating on keeping them, they are still very impressive for the price, but I don't own any other moving head yet and if it's a pain in the ass to make them move in sync with other fixture I should maybe return them
@@Distorful That's good to know! I won' try the older model then.... I'm no expert but I have some older Martin moving mirrorr units (SCX600) and the U'King moving head washes you see i the video. The movement of those vs desk faders is much more as you would expect. I suspect many people use these cheap lights standalone (or slaved to each other) so never question the odd motion. Granted the units have inertia which needs to be handled, but they could be way better than they are with the same hardware.
I managed to get a manual from UKING support since I was also looking at these. It's not on their website. 1. Pan coarse 2. Pan fine 3. Tilt coarse 4. Tilt fine 5. Pan / Tilt speed 6. Dimmer 7. Strobe effects (electronic, as it's LED based) 8. Color wheel select/rotate 9. Gobo wheel select/rotate 10. Prism on/off/rotate 11. Focus 12. Macro functions) 13. Fixture reset
